nice post, shruti, yes, the socity has forgot the punishment of raavan and kauravas for disrespecting women i.e. their behaviour with sita and draupadi. they are so blind in their need for sons that they are kiling the feuture genarations by female feoticide, and their greed are kiling inocent brides. do we need this socity which is to much attracted with purusha that it destroys prakriti?

Indeed, that line is reflective of a regressive patriarchal mentality that sees women as objects to be owned, consumed and discarded!

To Ravan, Sita was a necessary evil. Something he had to acquire since that was the only way the Shiv dhanush would be his! She never mattered as a human being! I would suppose it is this notion also that got defeated in the swayamvar and instead, she got the man who treasured and respected her as an equal! That he was against the patriarchal practice of polygamy is itself an indication of the respect and place Ram accorded to the woman in his life!

@jaya I had commented in Ramya's another thread that evil wins because of the mistakes committed by the good people. Ram's mistake was to listen to Sita and go behind the golden deer which was a mirage. Pandavas mistake was not listening to Panchali when it mattered the most.

Listening to his wife Ram chased an illusion to make her happy and not listening to Panchali, Pandavas refused to wake up and smell the coffee and tried to be in the illusion that what is happening is dharma.

This indecision when to say " No" when to " act". Which demand should be met, which demand should be neglected, when to ask something from your husband, when to understand his " No", when to keep quiet is the raging conflict between man, woman relations as long as we can remember. And it is expected as we all are humans and prone to make mistakes. Our epics depict the conflicts very beautifully. They show the aftermath, sufferings, courage shown during second chance everything in the story telling. It is for us to understand from the mistakes of the past, learn from it and make our life better.

But what to do we keep on committing the same mistakes taking every wrong learning from the epics.

@Arjith we will get a balanced society when a man supports a woman to have a daughter. When he tells his parents firmly he is fine being the father of a girl. He will make the battle a little easy for the woman. Not that the women themselves not need to fight. But if a man steps in the battle changes. Female foeticide can be stopped first by a mother. But alone her struggle is hardest. But as a couple if the parents welcome the child without gender preference that can go a long way in changing the society.

@Bertie in corporate parlance there is a term called value adds. I mean the services or the features that the organization giving free of cost to the customer in addition to the committed features. Most customers will be unaware of the value adds and what exactly it is doing. Some even scoff saying is it value add. I don't think so. In patriatichial society women is exactly that. Value add. Something that comes free with other necessary things like TV,fridge, gold, house etc...

Love ur post Shruthi 👏 They are always bang on! You have rightfully pointed out the root cause of the reason why our nation and some middle eastern countries never progress! Our society has always considered a girl child to be a burden but why do they forget that if not for us, human race would never have flourished. I wish for once these narrow minded people would realise that a girl makes the biggest sacrifice by giving up the home she had grown up, her safe haven to carry forward another family's legacy but what does she get in return?

Raavan is a typical MCP and waiting to see his ego crushed today 😆 True he insulted even Lord Shiva. What would Shiva do with gold or silver? Did he ever need them? The fact that he had little or no regard for the man who would give him his daughter's hand in marriage says it all.

There is another thing I would like to highlight here. We always point out a man calling him names for mistreating women but what about the women who raised those men to be the kind of person they are? They are the real culprits! They should be punished first and foremost! They enforce ridiculous traditions and treat their sons like kings and daughters like a burden. I was watching the movie Damini a few days ago where the mother of the rapist instead of berating her son for raping the maid, calls the maid characterless 🤢 Woman is a woman's biggest enemy here.

Its sad that women prefer boy child and they dont understand the joy of having a daughter at home. I am really very lucky coz my mother preferred a girl child over a boy 😆 and if I ever were to become a mother I would hope I had a daughter. I would never want a son 😆

@Fiery nice post. You know EHT also right. Shaurya gets his biggest defense in his mother who doesn't miss a chance to berate the girls calling them driver's daughters. And you could see Sakshi manipulating Suchitra so that the well mannered Dev never gets the freedom to question, whereas her criminal son goes on breaking one rule after the another. In fact a woman like Sakshi is not only a bane to woman, but a bane to whole humanity as they don't allow men with empathy to come up, protecting evil mongers all the way because they are their husbands or sons.

And let me tell you, you should never tell you don't want a son. That is also not correct. A child is a gift from God and who we get is nature's decision. And who ever it is we should accept it happily. If it is a girl give her the wisdom so that she knows to differentiate between Ram and Ravan and if it is a boy give him the wisdom to do actions so that a woman with knowledge come for him.

I just watched the episode on hotstar.. this Ravan guy was getting on my nerves!! Disgusting! And wonderfully put in post @TM :) Agree with it totally... I just cant wait for Ravan to be UNABLE to pick up Shiv's Dhanush. That will be such a moment!

To say the truth even though we say society has changed...it actually hasnt changed much.. this is one instance. The position of women is still as it was.. even today women are considered to be inferior, and in most of India, if not in the urban society, in the rural society, women are recognized by her father's wealth and prosperity and how round her roti is. Pity...
