Equation of brothers

For an instance lets consider all four brothers lead the normal human life and no god avatar, and we take the brothers in pair, Ram-Lakshman and Bharat-Shatrughan. All the brothers were equally qualified in all fields, all were good in their behaviour, son of a mighty king and student of Guru Vashisth. So the equation was Ram-Lakshman = Bharat-Shatrughna

But it was not so, what was the difference between these two pairs? Why Ram-Lakshman was given much importance compared to Bharat-Shatrughna? Here I feel the major difference was the mentor in the life of Ram-Lakshman. Yes, its the guru Vishwamitra who made the difference and changed the equation as Ram-Lakshman > Bharat-Shatrughna

We have so many teachers from our childhood, but after your doctorate when anyone asks about your mentor, simply we mention our Ph.D supervisor only. There is a proverb which states "show me your friend, I will tell about you" but in reality its like "Show me your teacher, I will tell about you". The guru is the one who shapes your career. Ram found his life sita through guru vishwamitra. We may say, they are avatars if not vishwamitra then also they could have got married. If that is the case, what is the need for guru to intervene in their meeting? If we consider Ram as god in this context, then also it means god wants the guru to set the things straight.

It was a time when teachers chose the student depending on their ability, but now students chose their guide with just half-knowledge. I want to emphasize it with the words of Noble Laureate Sir C.V. Raman about Prof. G.N.Ramachandran. Sir C.V. Raman told the head of Elec. Eng. Dept, IISc to allow Ramachandran to join physics dept by saying " I am admitting Ramachandran into my dept as he is bit too bright to be in yours" - ref Raghupathy sharma in Ramachandran: A Biography of the Famous Indian Biophysicist (1998).

Now we just don't lack students like Ram-Lakshman but also teachers like Vishwamitra.

Note: This is just my POV and its not universal law. I welcome all healthy discussions. Our words shows who we are. So lets maintain our own dignity.

Thoughtful post👍🏼
Yes though God the human journey matters
Like u said, why would he even need a Guru
or say even a human form to set things right
It setting example for mankind
To make them understand in the best way known to them
That is to be human
Make mistakes learn, learn to perfect, then excel
Lead them by example

I liked the progression in SKR
Initially Ram's and Lakshman's warrior skills when not hyped much
yes, they were better than warriors around them
Good enough to chase Subahu and Marreech
But for Tadka they needed to learn more,
which would be helping them in future too

Inspite of Knowing he is Vishnu avathar
Vishwamitra didn't straight away teach him bhramastra
He took his time, gave Ram his time
Then decided

Though as a God, he is a devotee
But for his human form, he is a Guru
He did his job perfectly not letting himself shaken with Ram's Godly features

Today, yes it's rare to find such Gurus nowadays
As education has become money driven

Thank u Mano. Well said. Vishwamitra studied Ram before teaching him brahmastra. SKR nicely points out the development in all characters especially Ram and Sita.
Ram fought with Subahu in a splendid manner. I just liked the way they portray Ram so far.
Ashish has done justice to his role with a complex mixture of stubborn action with divine nature and the guru vishwamitra (forgot the actor name) just perfect body language.👏

Yours last two lines: Absolute bitter truth.

Yes, but time is not so convenient. Mahabharat is yet to start in home, here shanta will be cause😉. Dubbing is okay but I don't like the voice of dhasarath.

@Ramya was missing you for some days. And what a beautiful post. Yes Guru plays an important role in our life. Not only the teachers who taught us till our graduation, but our mentors post that. Because they shape us. And if you see Ram-Lakshman got a right mentor at the right time. They were budding warriors and through Vishwamitra they got the direction on how to use their skills for the betterment of society. And you need to see one key thing in Vishwamitra. He gives enough freedom to his pupils, but at the same time knows his responsibility towards them. That scene where he throws a rope at Lakshman and then chastise his shishyaas on the importance of emotion control was a beauty. Yes they are warriors, but it is his responsibility to ensure their safety and if they fail, it is their collective failure.
Contrast to today's world where success is everyone's, but failure is yours alone.
I have been lucky to get some real good mentors in my professional life who have shaped my career. And I would always say the first mentor mattered the most because you are like wet clay at that point, and can be moulded anyway.
My first mentor laid the foundation. Giving me hard task, but holding me from behind. He trusted me, but at the same time directed me. There was freedom, yet restriction. It was a wonderful experience that has enriched me a lot.
Yes Guru matters a lot. Not just a lot, it makes all the difference.
