Hi Arshi, i was waiting for your post to say How handsome is our Brahmarishi Vishmitra!. Really like Manishji and looking forward to seeing him more here. I'm sure he will be great.

We see the Rishis recognizing who Rama & Sita really are. So did Sumitra. As @Ramyaaxmi i too wondered why only she could see the divine form of Rama. Could be because she is a very balanced human being, plain and simple, very devoted to God.

On one side we had Vishwamitra talking about Ram being the savior of people from the external demons and on the other we had Vashisht talking about the internal demons. Nice touch there was Rama sensing the unease of Kaikeyi and trying to calm her heart, but alas Kaikeyi's ego would not let her accept it. Her inner demons getting more power with external help (Mantara).

Great words from Vashisht. Don't make promises if you do not have the courage to fulfill it. Great men are remembered by their great deeds and to keep up that and emulate them needs a lot of discipline and courage. We are all not born with the same character traits and to remember the deeds and emulate our ancestors means recognizing our shortcomings and changing ourself. Otherwise we will be like Dasaratha who made a promise but doesn't want to fulfill it.

Not sure why Vashisht tells Dasarath that Rama is born for bigger things and to not hold onto him. Yet he scolded him for making a promise and not fulfilling it. Was he trying to prepare him for what is coming?

Manish ji was so impressive even in the brief cameo! I wish we get to see a lot more of him

I think your reasons for why Sumitra could see Rama's divine roopa is perfect.

So well put, the external forces giving power to internal demons - that's why our environment matters so much!

I too was wondering why Vashihstha was telling Dashratha to not hold on to Rama - I guess he was trying to help Dashratha, because the pain of separation from Rama will be too unbearable for him, one, two, he will not willingly allow Rama to go away from him, and Rama being the dutiful son, would never leave against his fathers wishes.

Great post from you Aparna, great questions raised, and great answers given!

You should post more often!

His father who loves him too much, his birth mother Kaushalya, his kekeyi ma who professes to love him more than her own son - they all did not see the divya roopa, but she did!

I feel your second point is the reason - her special quality - she is the only one who has a pure heart and clear vision - who loves unconditionally and has no other motive, nor does she carry any emotional burdens, these have given her the drishti to see the divine form

Well said Arshics. It will be good if cvs highlight these qualities of sumitra more in the upcoming episodes.
When king janak also has such good qualities why he was not able to recognise the truth of sita?

@Arshics what a nice take. Yes Ramayana is the path of conquering our internal and external demons. Mainly internal demons. Ego, anger, hatred, vengeance all the negative emotions that cloud our thought process making us close the door towards love, happiness, fulfillment and bliss. Once we are able to control the internal demons, external demons are nothing. Because it is told that battle happens in mind. It is always mind over matter. Heart over Head. It is about channelizing the emotions right way. Because emotions are our greatest weakness and our greatest strength. It is upto us how we make use of them . Today Kaikeyi made emotions her weakness while allowing ego to rule over love. Whereas Ram used the only tool he knew. Love. And did what was in his control with that.

Coming to Vashistha's prophecy I would say it is a warning. Indirectly Rajguru told Dasrath to let go of Ram. Telling all the good things about the caliber the youngster possess. It was his way of telling Dasrath to keep the word. Make Bharath his successor. If that happens a lot of other ill happenings in Ayodhya can be avoided. Rishi's and learned men will know many truth. But they don't tell it directly because they are not supposed to. Their knowledge is in the hands of Lord and they will never want to go against his will. However they give warnings, indirect messages, choices. And the wise understand from it and take the right choice. But the one like Dasrath who is tied by Moh of his son looks other way. So finally nature takes its call. If you cant give, it will be snatched. If you are holding too tight, you will be forced to open up willingly or unwillingly. Because nature is supreme. And the purpose for which a human is sent that purpose has to be completed. If you give you will have lesser pain, but when snatched pain will be unbearable. So it is also for us to look around, heed warnings, take signals and give our time, material, wealth, our kids for the right cause at the right time. Else it wont take much for nature to snatch if it decides that way.

Another thing Vashist told great men needs to be emulated. I am so happy the makers told this line quite bluntly and clearly. I have always maintained great men like Ram and Krishna needs to be understood, their paths followed in deeds than keeping them in a pedestal and worshipping them with doodh, ghee and makkan. They didn't come on this earth to get worshipped like this. They came to give valuable life lessons to humanity and in their journey those life lessons are available aplenty.

@Ramya you asking why Sumitra got the darshan. I would like to see whether they are going to show how the broken relations in Ayodhya getting mended post the ram, sita, lakhan leaves for Vanvass. I expect Sumitra to play a prominent role here. With Dasrath's death, a recluse Kausalya, a regretful Kaikeyi, the 3 DILs and the 2 young men on whose shoulders the entire administration of Ayodhya falls it needs a sane mind to handle all this. Sumitra for me has the sane mind. To guide the youngsters, to be a balm to both Kausalya and Kaikeyi. To once again bring everyone together. So when Lord Vishnu takes the punishment for Dasrath's deeds to calm down Kaikeyi, he wants someone in Ayodhya to keep Ayodhya safe and manage relations. When Sumitra send Shatrugna along with Bharath Lord has seen his ally in her, the person who will support him in his mission. Therefore the darshan is my take. But let us see how CVs will take it

@Ramya king janak knows Sita is divine. That was told to him even while she was a baby. And Sita proved her divinity by taking Shiv dhanush.

Whereas in Ram as of now there is nothing that shows he is divine. He appears a normal emphatic young man. It is when Vishwamitra comes the divinity of Ram is going to get exposed to Ayodhya, especially the marriage where he lifts Shiv Dhanush.

There is a line Shiv lacks expression without Shakthi and Shakthi lacks existence without Shiva. People understand a man as Shiva, when a woman whose qualities are proven chooses him as her husband. And if the woman wants that qualities to remain in her and the allow the world to know it, she has to choose a man like Shiva. Else no one will know her. Her identity will be crushed.

And I feel this is the reason girls of marriageable age are asked to worship Lord Shiva so that they get a husband like him.

Here janak didnt see the goddess of sita. I think CVs didnt show it. (I am not sure whether they showed that in last week, when i missed few episodes).
@bold: I differ in this. There is no need for a woman to choose a best man to showcase her qualities. The good eg was gargi.

Sad part is that Dashratha is not listening to guru ji, kekeyi is listening to bad advice and both will suffer for it

I'am currently reading " Ramayana " retold by C. RajaGopalachari -
I understand, his rendition is a combination of Valmiki Ramayana as well as Kamban., for his text gives both their POV's for a particular sequence.

What he says about Sumitra , to quote from his text -

Quote -

In the Ramayana, Sumitra is a woman of few words and mature wisdom and great tact and infinite courage, full of faith, in whom 'hope shines like a fame when it has gone out in all others.' The tradition is that Sumitra knew Rama's divinity and the purpose of his incarnation and that this enabled her not only to comfort Kausalya but to see a holy ministration in Lakshmana's sharing Rama's exile.

- Unquote

CV's have thus showed us that Sumitra is able to have a glimpse of Rama as Vishnu avatar.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful nugget of information. Please do keep doing this going forward also.
