No one names their daughter as Sita this side ...likewise for Draupadi . I have asked this question a lot in my younger days and was told the above... it did not satisfy me at all. So the question has remained behind in my head ...lets see if this time it will get answered.

Aaliah3108 is my pseudo name only.

Well the thing is this only why by -names are used ...Sia is common ...Vadehi is ...but in all my 30 years of being on earth , I have not heard a single person named as Sita ! 😊

@ Bold : Cant agree more to it !! She was one hell of a strong woman but yeah it was a man's world and she was thus chosen not to be looked at that way ! All they said about her was she was the cause of the WAR !! which is supreme level of nonsense!!

Oh they you are like my elder sis.. Ruchi di. 😊 I hope you won't mind me calling you that.
That's is true. People usually don't name their daughters with their actual name. But I think ideology plays a very strong role. It actually adds up to the be a reason behind myths and actions which held women characters responsible for many things which they are not responsible for.

I am strong looking forward to this roop of Ramayana. But they need to handle Sita's character in a sensible way because this is the first time someone is doing that and if it is not good then people wont get the right message.

I am looking forward to Madhrikashi's performance. She looks good in the promo but I want to see how she plays the character. Honestly, Pooja was really good as Draupadi and I expect similar performance if not better,

Though I haven't read Valmiki's Ramayana
Since we have a different version here
But from the diff articles I read regarding the show
They said even in Valmiki's Ramayan
Sita is well defied but lost in Television version is what the makers say

And oh! I know people who are named after Draupadi.

Actually, I guess people look more towards the struggles than their grace and personality. If looked in a manner Draupadi was a very strong women but people fail to look that way.

That's good to know

Yes people just see the struggles not how they overcame it

Hi Ruchi, Mano , Navyakavya30 ( I am sorry I always get confused with your real name 😕), Glad to see known people here 😃
I agree Ruchi , I havent heard of anyone named after Draupadi. I have heard about Sita and people named after her , but the place where I belong they firmly believe that naming their daughters as the likes of Sita makes way for troubles all their life. Same goes with names of rivers too - Ganga , Yamuna etc

Even I am eager to see what and how are they gonna show Sita's perspective 😊 All I have heard so far about her is about her birth and about swayamvar and later life as Ram's wife.. nothing in between ..

She is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi so she must have had many great traits to her apart from being a strong resilient woman and devoted wife / daughter in law. 😊

Eagerly looking forward to the show 😊

Sita is a very common name all over India. Maybe some people don't name their daughters Sita, but it definitely does not apply to everyone because I know many people with the name Sita and Janaki. Vaidehi and Maithili are a bit more rare, but Sita and Janaki are SO common.

This naming thing is a general observation which I have seen / heard of while growing up in Northern India.

It is quite possible that there may be different regions in India itself where the name might be in use so you guys know about it. I have always heard of the synonyms of Sita ji's being much much more in use than this itself but yeah to each his/ her own.

Well there will be so much to discuss...I love discussions !

I too have heard some people say that giving a girl the name of "Sita" will bring her sorrows, but honestly, neither my parents nor I believe that. Sita is a very auspicious name and a girl would be quite fortunate to bear her name.

There are other people who believe just the name Sita will bring sorrows, but Sita Ma's other names will not, so they name their daughters Janaki, Maithili, Vaidehi but not Sita.
