Does the hero have to get the heroine?

Hi guys, today I want to talk about a very ghissi pitti storyline which is seen in so many soaps:
When the hero and heroine (ML and FL) separate for a few years for whatever reasons and the heroine has a new amazing guy in her life who loves her, but his love is always unrequited.

So this is a plot line that is used time and time again to create love triangles and usually, everyone knows that the hero and heroine will obviously end up together and the other "nice guy" will be kicked to the curb. I personally have always been against this, I've always thought that the other guy deserves better than that, but of course that never happens because there is an unspoken, but well known rule that the hero (ML) always gets the girl.

I hope Silsila breaks this pattern and shows that the hero doesn't always get the girl, there are plenty of movies which have shown this like Bewafaa, HDDCS, and Dhadkan.

This post isn't about Kunal vs Ishaan, but rather about main character vs side character. I strongly advocate nice guy characters in soaps who don't end up getting the girl. One of the most memorable "nice guys" for me is actually one of Shakti's characters; Dr. Onir Dutt in PR. Of course, Arjun was the hero, but when I watched that show (I was very young btw) I felt that Onir deserved Purvi. Of course, Arjun and Purvi looked great together and had amazing chemistry, but Arjun was married to Ovi and Onir was such a great guy. ❤️ I genuinely loved him and I have liked Shakti since I saw him as Onir. I don't want to discuss that show too much on SBRK forum it was just one example I was giving to prove my point.

I hope our nice guy Ishaan gets Mauli at the end of this show because he deserves her, and because nice guys have suffered enough on ITV! It's time for a change!

Edit: I just realized other people in another thread were comparing Onir to Ishaan. 😆 I guess I'm not the only one who thought these two were similar.

I mean of its a love story then yes i guess hero heroine end up together. But the major problem of indian tv is their defination of a hero and heroine, their characterisation, their under developedment and biggest of all their sense of entitlement on love and happy ending. I cant stand characters who think unki jaisi prem kahani kisiki nahi. And all in fair in love wala soch and shows. This makes me roll my eyes and I cant even.empathize with the lover characters. And since more often than not there are collateral victims of their mahaan love, the empathy goes to those characters, be it the nice dulha that has been left at the altar or family members who are lied to and betrayed. And that for any show is a failure. If a viewer empathizes or even connects with a supporting character more than the hero and/or heroine, that show/movie has failed in storytelling. Which is the case in Silsila.
Had they written the show well, even.if many would have still not wanted MouNal they would have liked to watch story of Kunal and Mouli. How their respective relationships evolve. But the show has failed its original leads: Nandini and Kunal beyond redemption and Mouli too pretty badly.

I feel like it's a redundant theme now a days, in movies, TV, everywhere.

The whole "bad guy" is attractive started weaning off a few years ago, I feel.

Or is is just me?

TBH: I can't think of any recent examples of this. There are still bad guy heroes. One example I can think of is GathBandhan, I saw some episodes of that show when I went home for reading week and basically the hero is a gunda who falls in love with this girl who wants to be a police officer. He forces the girl to marry him and vows to make her fall in love with him. Most recently there's a promo where he drinks poison at his reception. That show was basically glorifying gundagiri and forced marriages, I was shocked.

Another recent show I was following was Aisi Deewangi which showed a hate to love story and the hero in that was a total slacker and goon too. His dad had killed the girls dad and his dad was shown to be a really nice and sanskaari man. In the end the plot twist was that the girl's dad had actually been a bad guy.

Most recently, in DTHHJ I heard that they killed off the good guy and the ML is a bad guy.

Some other shows I can think of are Haasil, Ishq Mein Marjaawan (not sure what the story of this show is, but as far as I know Deep had negative shades to him), IPKKND3, Udaan, and even Swaragini, where Sanskaar had been a bad guy before "Swara changed him."

But there have been good guy heroes also, like Roop, and Jamai Rajaa, and the ML in MMCJTDR.

i don't think many channels right good guys anymore. star channels definitely do not, specifically 4 Lions shows never do that. examples being the trashfire that is ishqbaaz and dil toh happy hai ji. in those shows they don't understand the difference between rivalry and straight up violence. it's so sad they have such a huge following and people begin to think that shit is hot and sexy.

also almost every star vijay (tamil channel) is about a forced marriage. sometimes it's about the parents forcing the couple, but there are some shows where the guy forces the girl to marry him knowing she doesn't want it and then the story becomes about the girl learning he's actually a good guy. straight bullshit i hate it so much!!

I totally agree, the definition of "true love" in ITV is so specific that it doesn't portray real life. MLs and FLs in all shows use the same dialogues over and over again. Love in ITV is so overrated.

Mmm idk. Maybe because we are older and we are surrounded by people who are like us and think similiar, it might seem so. But clearly there is a rabid fanbase for chemistry between bad guy bullying ditsy woman into eternal love.

People literally mesure chemistry by how hardly the guy pulls the girl, kalaiyan kitni jhorr se pakda, him beating any other guy who might also have cursh on her...haq jatana is so sexy you know.
