Kunal saves Nandini. Kunal apologises to Nandini for what she said to her. Nandini clears his misunderstanding that she didn't meet Mauli before leaving and she said nothing to her. She tells him that after all the hurt they gave Mauli he hurt her again and accused her. She asks him is that all you understood Mauli in these years you were with her, even reminding him if Mauli was like that then she could have let her friends humiliate us that day instead of stopping them. She further says that after what they did to her she could have insulted her as any woman in mauli's place would have but she didn't. Kunal is extremely regretful and goes home to Mauli with Nandini and begs her for forgiveness only to find that Mauli and family have packed all his things and thrown him out. Mauli says to them both to get out of her life and never return. There's a 5 year leap shown where Mauli is with her son, and she has a new friend who she has known for years and he is in love with Mauli. Kunal on the other hand is now in a marriage with Nandini where he feels unsatisfied and unhappy as he now has no friends, no family, and he has realised that Nandini is not at all compatible with him, due to her overtly dependent nature, inability to understand his need for personal space and feels she lacks understanding of his feelings. He remembers Mauli and how she understood him so well and they supported one another as equals instead of just him looking after Nandini. He regrets his affair/marriage to Nandini unbeknownst to Nandini who is happy in her own bubble having someone who looks after her. Kunal starts feeling attracted to a new girl who works at the same clinic as him. The girl is the sole carer of her ailing father and has no other family, working hard to provide treatment for him. Kunal subconsciously is attracted to this girl as he likes qualities in her that are similar to Mauli, as she is strong, independent, has a positive attitude even when in a difficult situation. He befriends the girl. With passing time Kunal desires a relationship with the girl and proposes her. The girl is angered and slaps him as she know he is married. Nandini gets to know about this from the girl. Kunal insults Nandini, telling her that marriage with her feels like raising a child etc. That girl has rejected him, whilst his marriage with Nandini has fallen apart, and desires to be with Mauli again leaving Nandini.
