To be honest as much as I have understood our history the boons abd curses work in that order for the events to happen..

Some story had that Vishnu was cursed to be separated from Lakshmi

Also narad muni cursed him after he got vanar face as prank. That vanars only will help..

Ravan had a boon. He can't be killed by anyone but he didn't include human and vanars

So both these combination carried the story of his end.

Likewise many such stories there
