Me too.

I always had an issue with Babli projecting her insecurities on Anokhi and towards Shaurya. It used to frustrate me.

But I am glad I am having this rewatch, coz now you can see that Babli was more or less a second mother to Anokhi. She is so fiercely protective of her, that her fears were not unfounded, especially after the way previously Shaurya had treated her, and the way his family had treated her.

I’ve had the same question arise so many times in my mind too. No mother would be so cold hearted upon meeting her son after 25 years , but I trued to convince myself that Aastha had her reasons.Maybe that was the result of years of burying any emotional attachment to her husband and son. Maybe she saw that as a sign of weakness.maybe she wouldn’t have been able to move on had she been emotionally weak. We were never told why, but despite all these reasons I still cannot convince myself as to why Aastha didn’t try harder to explain her situation to Shaurya. We were undersold on Aastha’s past and her reasons. I remember reading a fantastic FF on why she did what she did.In it, Aastha tries hard to fight for her son, and is completely blackmailed by Tejvi. She also runs out of money to pay for any legal proceedings. I don’t remember the name of the FF . Any help please?

My take on episode 18

Anokhi despite being all rebellious and wanting to achieve her dreams would never do so at the expense of those very much dear to her. We saw the parallel when Tej blackmailed her with disinheriting Shaurya and she backed away.

Every woman has a 'matarani' inside her, it just needs a catalyst to come to the surface. Here Babli and her mum, knew how high the stakes would be to liberate Anokhi from this prison, but the fighter in them saw the need of the hour and ensured that Anokhi also does not suffer as they did. An older sister is always like the second mother in a house and we saw that with Babli, where for her Anokhi is no longer her sis but her kid.

As for the Bhallah Clan, I have seen enough in the previous episodes and it is further being confirmed. I just see the potential we have with a season 2 here.

Shaurya.. The more I am watching the initial episodes the more softhearted I am towards him. He just needs his mother, and maybe his broken engagement and the fortuitous meeting with Asthaa is making him react so emotionally. The barriers are slowly starting to have cracks and being in such a vulnerable state he is seking that unconditional love by trying to satisfy BM. In so doing he chooses to meet Asthaa to gauge how she will react. But he is also stubborn like his mother. He does not want to hear her side of the story (He is old an mature enough now) and his mum is also stubborn and wants him to understand her. She is looking for unconditional love and respect, but has she asked herself if she deserves it?

Tomorrow looks more dangerous and high on suspense...

Welcome back to the discussions!

One thing I am absolutely loving with this rewatch is the parallels I missed first time around. I don’t think back then I appreciated this, that how both of them were in their own way crying out.

I've been saying this in most of my discussions. I love being able to slowly analyze episodes I binged through to get caught up.

Raja is perhaps my biggest disappointment. Granted that he grew up seeing his mother and sisters being treated as a non enitity. But how is it that he has no feelings at all towards his sister? For a culture which considers Rakshabandhan to be so important, where is the brother to rescue.

If anything Anokhi should tie that rakhi to her sister, to Babli. Who probably couldn’t stand for herself, but stood up for her sister.

Rakshabandhan is a joke when the only bandhan is between guy to girl and shows men as protectors only. I don't have a blood brother so I can't speak to the traditions that I don't follow, but like you said, Anokhi's true rakshabandhan is with her sister. Babli put herself(physically) on the line for her sister multiple times. I can appreciate why she was hesitant with Shaurya and Anokhi's relationship now.
And Anju, I don’t think she was trying to be sacrificing or mahaan. No daughter can see her mother bearing the brunt or facing abuse for herself. Anokhi wanted to be independent, not just for herself. But also her mother and sister. So, how would she step on either of them to achieve her dream. And yes, when she fell weak her sister and mother stood tall for her. It was the most courageous thing they did.

I understand what you're saying. I think I just see her willing to get married to someone like Monty and kill her future as a sacrifice....which it is! She's valuing others above her. At this point she doesn't really have any choice. Choices only open up when the women in her life - Rama, Babli, and Aastha - stand by her and give her an escape. I had just forgotten that Anokhi has made sacrifices before, like she will in the future when she prioritizes Shaurya's happiness with his family over her happiness with him.

Here, both of them were not wrong, neither were they right. Shaurya is not wrong wanting to challenge her, coz maybe he was expecting her to refute him, tell him her reasons. But he was wrong in his disrespect towards her. Aastha is not wrong in standing up for herself and her self-respect, but she is wrong in expecting Shaurya to understand her, without giving him any reason to. Of course he was happy she didn’t sign the affidavit. Like you said this whole affidavit thing was just another act to satisfy the child inside him, screaming for his mother. To keep that hope alive in that child. Shaurya has never hated his mother, not for a second. He has been hurt, angry, frustrated, irritated and downright disrespectful. But never hated her.
I think they really tried to make it clear to us the Shaurya doesn't really 'hate' anyone. He was angry at his mother and later he is envious of Anokhi(and never really hates her).

Like you said the whole affidavit thing was a test. He complains to Devi later(in Goa) that he has to prove his love to Badi Ma always. Well he was kind of doing that with Aastha too. He keeps wanting to be pacified. He seems to want her to fight..........just like he later wanted Anokhi to fight for him too.

This is where Aastha frustrates me. Why talk in circles? At least later we should have gotten an elaboration on her words, when mother son reunited. Shaurya should know what his bade papa and Badi ma have done.

We deserve this story!! We deserve a season 2!

I had forgotten that Anokhi had this nature of giving up when her loved ones are threatened. I'm noticing it this time around and it makes sense that she reacted the way she did to Tej's blackmail

Aastha is weird. She expects to be understood. She expects maturity from her son. She expects respect. She apologizes but it seems like she doesn't really understand the extent to which she broke her son. It's weird to expect so much from a victim, especially when Aastha's the offender.

It would have been such a great situation to explore to make Aastha and mothers in general see the effect of abandoning their child can have if the latter do not have the proper bringing up. At the same time it was important to make Anokhi realise that Aastha is not the perfect person and in fact nobody is perfect in this world.

Season 2?

This. I always feel this with the beginning episodes. But as heartbreaking they are, the emotions are beautifully put.

Anokhi just wanted to be heard and yet Raja called their father and her Papaji threatened her mother. What is a girl to do but feel hopeless about her choices? Her sister and mother to her rescue! Jhot jala and mata rani delivers! I'm glad Babli Di is the one to hear the recording and show it to their mother. I never noticed how much of a sacrificial nature Anokhi had in the beginning....how ITV heroine of her! Where Anokhi fell weak, the two women in her life stood tall for her.

Raja was a bhaiya only for one episode. Post that he has been a horrible human being. I don't know if she is sacrificial or not because think from a pov of a 19yo who is blackmailed that her mother will be beaten and thrown into the streets. She has no phone to call aastha and even if she screams no one will come to help. With so much pressure and fear she gave into her "fate". I don't blame her. But yes, for the people who she loves, she can go to any extent. I loved Babli and Rama taking this stand fro her when she was weak. They realised what would happen to their bright little girl if she left for Canada.

Shaurya was like a child screaming silently for attention. "Main aapka beta nahi hoon, Main Shaurya hoon" "Yeh naam mera diya hua hain" I love the change of Aastha from sad in one moment to righteous in another. She won't let anyone take her down, even her own son. She has her self respect intact. Shaurya wanted to challenge his mom. But is he secretly happy that she didn't sign the affidavit?

I loved this scene. She did not bow and wrapped her emotions quite well. What I did not like...why? Why could she not initiate a conversation about why she left? She is not afraid of Shaurya's anger and is prepared that he might not believe her. Why send him back to devi to ask. Somedays I feel Aastha hold to her "zidd" to stay away from sabs too harshly. It costs shaurya his happiness and that is on her. Because to me it sounds foolish.."ask devi".

Side notes:

~ DJ and Billo fall and catch moment! They built that story so slowly only to be an adhuri kahani! This was a story I wanted to see. They were the OG couple.😭

~ And that last dig about Devi that Aastha took.......I wish we had seen an elaboration of that. Who stole Shaurya? Why? How? My pov on this is above. So may people spoilt shaurya and Anokhi's childhood in ego🤔

Also, my sidenote : Anokhi has a cycle, she tries, she fails and tries again and fails and then she gives up and then someone comes to her rescue (mother, sister, aastha, shaurya etc). I have noticed it in so many places.
