Hey, guys!
New to this forum - discovered and binged this show only this week after a sudden notification from Hotstar. It's been a fun ride, definitely interesting, especially because I haven't watched an itv show in close to two years. The spark and fire between these two is amazing with a potential for a lot of promising stuff ahead, hoping the CVs deliver!
Coming to the back story, I see a lot of people still have questions about it, but I felt that everything has already been revealed. Obviously, there will be bits and pieces added through the episodes to make the story to show how Aastha didn't really have much choice - just like we saw in today's epi. But let's look at what we know so far.
1) Shaan and Aastha were college sweethearts and got married.
2) Post their marriage, Aastha was asked to give up her career because the Sabherwal women didn't work. Because she loved Shaan so much, she agreed without a fuss.
3) Fast forward 5 years, they're a happy fam with a four-year old Shaurya who's the apple of their eyes.
4) Aastha's brother dies in a car accident leaving her old parents without anyone to support them. Aastha feels she needs to step up and support and so decides to work - but the Sabherwals don't agree.
5) Aastha tries to reason it out with Tej who doesn't budge, she asks Shaan to intervene and support her which he does, but not strongly enough.
6) Aastha finally decides to leave. She wants to take Shaurya along but he's literally snatched out of her arms by Devi and no one says a word, not even Shaan. Also, I do recall hearing in one of the episodes that Devi had threatened Aastha with legal action (driven by their power) if she dared to try take Shaurya.
7) Later, Aastha implies in one of the episodes that for Shaan and Shaurya's peace, she didn't even go the legal route and gave up on them.
8) Devi kept feeding crap about Aastha to Shaurya, and Shaan never once stopped to explain the truth to him. (Also, the whole mahaanta story about not having their own kid so that Shaurya could have their undivided attention reeks of manipulation too. I'm pretty sure that Tej and Devi may have medical reasons for not being able to have their own child and so jumped on snatching Shaurya the first chance they got.)
9) Obviously, there may have been umpteen instances later on through the years when Aastha tried to reach out to Shaurya and it was always blocked by Devi.
To me, Shaan is the one who's responsible for the miserable lives of all three of them. He failed to support Aastha when she needed it the most. She gave up her career for his family ideals but when it came to her family being in need, Shaan failed her. He could have strongly and vocally supported her before the Sabherwals or he could have moved out with her. He was too weak for either - merely out of respect/gratitude/obligation towards Tej and Devi? Too lame an excuse. He could have tried to keep Aastha and Shaurya in touch, doesn't look like he did that either.
It took him 25 years to gain back his voice but it's 25 years too late and there's irreparable damage done.
Now to Shaurya finally learning the truth about Aastha, I don't want it to happen overnight. It will be best done organically because it is too deep a wound to just heal it overnight. Also, I feel for Shaurya and Anokhi's clash of ideals to continue, Aastha's truth won't be out too soon either. Let's see what the CVs have in store. I don't know much about the original version but I have high hopes for this one given the potential in the story.
