Gayatri's eyes were glued to the rear-view mirror and since the tractor was moving at a very slow pace, she had a good view of the woman standing by the roadside, next to her expensive Fortuner.

If the woman burying her face in the towel that Ravi had used was weird enough, what she did kind of spooked Gayatri and set her brain matter ticking. She saw the woman slide the towel down her face and down onto her rather large and voluptuous breasts and she did not stop there and slid the towel down between and on to her core and essence and pressed the towel against it.

Then, she was lost as the road curved slightly and became one with national Highway 85 and soon they passed under it and crossed over to the other side of the Highway which was lined with green fields on one side and an embankment opposite it.

Ravi brought the tractor to a halt under a large Tamarind tree and turning to the children, spoke to them in a grave voice.

' Kids, I know that I bore you with the same piece of advice and warnings each time we come here to " Thiru Poigai." But, you kids know the reason for that and also know how dangerous water can be, especially, if you don't know how to swim properly.'

He put out his hand and said, ' promise me that you will follow my words and respect it and not disobey it.'

All the kids screamed in chorus, ' We promise master sir' and Ravi stared at them, locking them with his eyes, talking to all of them and then he pointed to the tallest boy whose name was Thillai Natarajan and then to Mekalai and told them that he was putting them both in charge of the kids.

He looked at Gayatri silently and she understood from his look that they would talk later and in privacy about what had transpired with the woman on the roadside.

They all walked towards the entrance of the lake and it was all Gayatri could do to stop herself from screaming at the top of her lungs for the place was like some exotic wildlife sanctuary.

Trees lined the banks of the small lake on all sides of it and although it was not very large, it did look very deep and forbidding.

' Ravi, don't you think this lake looks a bit scary. I mean, is it safe for the kids?'

Ravi smiled, ' Of course it is not safe for my kids, Gayatri. But, then they are not going to be playing or swimming in this lake but in that small pool' and pointed to a bricked-up portion near the water's edge.

Sighing in relief, Gayatri followed the kids and peered into the pool that was half the size of an Olympic swimming pool but the similarity ended there for the depths were totally different.

She looked at the bottom and told Ravi, ' Right, there is nothing to fear for this pool is just two feet deep and even the smallest tot here is taller than that and can easily stand on their own feet and move around in the water.'

Ravi told the eldest and largest boy Thillai Natarajan, to try and teach the smaller kids the basics of swimming and that he would join them after a little time.

Both of them sat on the soft, cool sand and in the shade of a large tree that looked a bit unfamiliar to Gayatri and picking up a few fallen leaves near them, she tenderly caressed them and asked Ravi, ' Master, not that I am very good at recognising a tree but I think I am just about okay in that field.'

Pointing to the tree above their heads, ' But, this tree looks a bit different ' and pointing to all the trees that stood like soldiers guarding the waters of the small lake, ' I recognise neem, tamarind, mango, fig and banyan treeS but I don't recognise this tree although I am sure I have seen it in before.'

Ravi patted the ground and then slowly leaned back and laid down on the ground with his hands as a pillow and looking up at the tree, ' This tree is called " Neermaruthu or Arjun Tree."

Gayatri too laid down and placing her hands behind her head felt a strange sense of peace fill her soul.

' Ravi, I don't know why man but I have been feeling this sense of Deja vu from the moment I entered your world and Kumarapalayam. It is as if I was meant to come here and meant to meet you.'

Raising her head, she placed it in the support of the palm of her left hand and stared at him and said, ' I feel really comfortable around you, your mother and all these kids and I wish I could spend more time here, maybe even buy a house here someday.'

Ravi turned his head slightly to face her and said, ' I am happy that you feel that way, Gayatri. Until you buy your own house, treat my house as your own.'

She shook her head in disbelief and looked at him with curiosity, ' why, how is this possible?' and pointing to him, ' how are you possible?'

Ravi smiled and closed his eyes and opened his lips and replied softly but with total conviction, ' Anything is possible and nothing is impossible, if you have love and if you care.'

Gayatri stuck her tongue out playfully and ran a hand across her neck and Ravi caught her with the corner of his eye and smiled and said, ' In our local lingo, it is called " Mokka bladupa, Rambam, romba arukkuraan."

' Whaaat?'

' Means, Boring and literally means one is using a blunt blade to slice through another' Ravi explained to her with a chuckle and closed his eyes again.

Gayatri threw some dry leaves on his face, forcing him to open his eyes and ask, ' Now what, ma'am?'

Unsure whether she could, should and also at the same time wondering if it was right or not, she blurted her question, ' Ravi, who was that lady and why was she being so obnoxious and downright rude?'

' Time and life will do that to a person, Gayatri.'

Scooping more dry leaves, she threw up them on his face and asked, ' Oh, oh! so, you know her.'

' Yes, I know her and have known her my entire life for she is, family. She is my cousin sister and her name is Meenakshi.'

Gayatri sat looking at him, absorbing the news and Ravi added the topping to the information that he had just give her.

' Adi is her son, her only son.'

Gayatri hurriedly said, ' you mean, your nephew Aditya for whom you went to the police station last night and again today morning.'

Vaanathai Pola 352

' someone with powers beyond that of us humans' Radhu repeated his mother's words, savouring the meaning and its implication on life as he knew it on Planet Earth.

' Magic, Miracles, God, superpowers or just aliens in their flying saucers' and placing the empty coffee cup aside, lifted the plate and drifted it across her son's eyes and both of them laughed about it.

' Radhu, I sometimes do wonder about life and advanced civilizations existing out there in other parts of the universe.'

' True Ammi. I think it is downright silly and even childish to think that life can exist only on this tiny planet.'

Both, mother and son sat staring at each other with smiles twinkling in both their eyes and then Radhu's eyes took on a sense of urgency and he asked Shinogai, ' Mother, back up and back to the start of this conversation for you have yet to tell me the reason as to why you were forced to contact William Bradley.'

She knew then that there was no way around it and that she would have to tell her son everything that had transpired and hopefully convince him not to retaliate violently since the matter had been taken care of, both by Kavita and Raman.

She told Radhu everything that had taken place from the moment that lecherous pig of an Inspector had stepped into the room and had threatened her and Girija and how Kavita had entered and slapped him.

' She slapped him, Ayan and the Cop who was much bigger and stronger than her, just dropped to the ground and believe it or not, your woman placed a foot on his chest and was just about ready to crush out that miserable worm's life. But, then Raman appeared and took charge of the situation and pacified her and led the Inspector away and probably saved his life.'

Radhu looked at her with surprise, ' what was Raman doing there in the hospital?'

' Oh, apparently he was helping the hospital's management sort out its legal issues that sadly and unfortunately stemmed from my killing that assassin and dumping him out of the window.'

' So, that Inspector entered dad's room to investigate the crime?'

Shinogai stared at her son and nodded, ' Yes baby, but the man was a horrible lech and a real nasty pig. I could have taken care of myself and was thinking of ways to kill him when Kavita suddenly entered and I don't know what she heard or thought she heard but I must say that she suddenly transformed into this fierce predator and I don't know how to say it but I felt something happen in that room. I am sure of it Ayan for I felt it.......'

A mother knows. She knows and so Shinogai finally realized what was happening and she stared at her son with eyes wide open in understanding and her mind finally connected the dots.

She banged the table with her hand and cursed and then rapped her head hard a couple of times, ' F..king idiot, of course' and looked at her son, ' Of course, if you can read my mind then she can too. Whatever happened to you or was done to you happened to her too, didn't it, baby?'

Radhu nodded sadly, ' yes Ammi. She too is like me and can read others thoughts although both of us don't know we do it and also are not very pleased that we can do what others cannot.'

He put both his hands on the table with his palms open and she without any hesitation or thought placed hers in them and twenty fingers wrapped around each other, and green and brown eyes met and stared at each other.

' Mother, Ammi, you know how much I love you and you also knew how much I loved my wife and son who were murdered in a terrorist attack. All my life, you have been the one constant, the one sure thing that I could turn to for anything and for everything.'

Shinogai smiled and nodded, ' And I will remain that until I am no more although I will try to protect you even from beyond with the help of Allah's grace.'

She gently kissed his fingers, ' Radhu, you are my love, the love of my life, a precious gift from the almighty and you were born out of love, valour and trust' and then looked into his eyes, ' baby, you know this.'

Radha Krishnan smiled and looked away as if he was scared to face his mother, his creator with his thoughts and Shinogai slowly gripped his cheek and turned his face to face her.

' what is it Ayan? Why do you feel so tormented?'

' Ammi, I should have died and I am sure that I nearly slipped away into the realm where death and dead belong and that is when I heard Kavita's words.'

' what words? what did she say?'

' Mother, you will probably think I am mad to say this but I think my soul felt at peace and I am sure a smile filled my face in death.'

' Baby, you are not dead. You are here, alive and probably more alive than before. So, forget about death and tell me what was spoken by Kavita as you lay dying.'

' Words of love mother as she begged for my life and offered her's instead.'

Flashback chapter 212

Kavita watched the Lion stare into the distance as if it was talking to the very forest itself and she watched as the lion slowly padded towards Radhu and stood looking down at him.

Kavita collapsed to the ground and crying her heart out, screamed angrily, ' Is this what it has come to? Is this what you are capable of? I have lost so much and yet you show me no mercy and come asking for more.'

Kavita cradled Radhu against her bosom and bathed his face with her tears and kisses and heard him say with gasping breaths, ' I have loved you and I have been loved you. I have known and felt your love and that is enough for this lifetime.'

Wiping her tears, ' please, take me instead. My life for his for he needs to live and exist for he is like you, a protector and a defender of all that is good and beautiful. Take me for I serve no purpose and my life is of no use.'

Far away and far back in time, the young man cradled his dying mother in his arms and howled his pain and anguish like a wild beast.

The night was black and the orange fires that were ravaging many houses cast glows and threw shadows as Azhagan knelt slowly beside the fallen body of Avini. He saw with shock and fear the arrows that stuck out of his mother's body and watched in terror as the blood gushed out of the mortal wounds. flowed like rain and fell on her face and she mumbled in pain and Azhagan realised that she was still alive but barely holding on to life and light as the darkness slowly but inexorably closed in and called itself death.

The mighty warrior was reduced to a bumbling and frightened boy as he saw what had been done to the one he loved the most and would never love anyone again as he did her. He gently put his arms under her and placed her on his lap and whispered " mother, mother I have come back. I am here and I am scared and don't know what to do. Please don't leave me alone for I will be truly lost without you and will follow you for I have no purpose or will without you by my side."

The eyes flickered open in her blood-streaked face and Avini saw the light of Azhagan and felt his strong arms around her and tried to speak, but the blood from her throat spilt out of her mouth and she coughed and nearly choked with it.

Avini whispered " Azhaga, my son, don't be scared for you are not alone and will never be. Take care of yourself, my child. I know I dont have much time so let me thank you for coming into my womb and bringing life and light into my life. Thank you, my son. I am truly blessed and the only thing that saddens me is that I have never been able to see you with my eyes and now I go with that one wish left unfulfilled. "

Azhagan screamed in pain and the green light that had died down when he had sat beside his mother now rose like bonfire and it entered Avinis body. The green fire took hold of her body and entered her soul and it worked magic on her and now even her eyes shone with the strange green light.

Avini felt the pulse of power from her son's body and she recognised the familiar touch and time fell away and her mind raced back in time to the genesis of her and Azhagan.

(Avini stumbled and reached out with both her hands and went forward and that is when she saw the light or did she feel it. A hand gently took her hands and Avini felt the man's embrace. She knew the voice was a man and before she could react, the man kissed her and Avini's world was never the same again. The magic took her and she felt the kiss on her lips. She felt the kiss in her body and she felt the kiss in her womb and the light moved into her.)

The world was black but the world of Avini and Azhagan was green and jade in colour and she feebly blinked and opened her eyes and she saw the beautiful face of her son and her heart broke as she saw his eyes full of tears and fear.

Avini smiled " I see you Azhaga. I see you are the light, the same light that entered my body. You are more beautiful than I thought and imagined you would be. Listen to me my son for you are not alone and we're never alone. There are forces and lights that will protect you and guide you when you call for them. I love you, my son. I have loved you, thought about you and loved you more when you came into my body. Please don't worry and cry for me for I die happily now with your face as my last memory. Azhaga.'

That was the last word that slipped out of Avinis lips as the life slipped out from her broken body.

' Gayatri, I am sorry if she has hurt or offended you in any way. Please, I beg you to forgive her and also please accept my apologies on her behalf.'

' Ravi, why are you apologising for her rude and nasty behaviour?' she said and with a smile, ' Boss, I am a big girl and I can take care of myself. I have travelled all over the world and believe me when I tell you that this world is full of such people and worse than your cousin.'

' I guess so. I was totally concentrating on removing the flat tyre and replacing it with the spare and getting away as quickly as possible. I couldn't help notice my cousin walk up to you while you were placing my shirt in the seat.'

He looked away at the shining waters and at the distant bank and said, ' She was always a bit of a spoilt child, a brat even and then she turned nastier and a total spoilsport. She is very difficult to handle even at the best of times and when she is angry and in a bad mood, it is better to avoid her totally or probably migrate to a different country.'

' Ravi, she is just a woman who deserves a good spanking or two and a few hard slaps across her face and that will bring her to her senses.'

He looked at her with surprise and then she saw him twist his lips mischievously but in a manner that endeared him to her and all she wanted to do was grab him and plunger her mouth into his.

Instead, she asked him what he was thinking and finding it difficult to say out loud.

' No, I was just wondering if you personally have experienced a spanking and a deserving one at that.'

' Touche Monsieur. Oui ami.( yes sir) I have been spanked a few times by my father and deservedly so and for the same sort of behaviour that your cousin exhibited.'

' Your dad. I thought the mothers usually do the spanking of the daughters and leave the sons to be taken care of by the father.'

Ravi knew that he had blundered badly and also realized at that very same time that her past concerning her parents was painful and that the wounds were still raw and open.

' I am sorry, Gayatri. I didn't mean to cause you pain. Believe me, for that was not my intention.'

She smiled and raised a hand, ' Ravi, please, don't waste so many sorry's on my behalf and honestly, it is not what you said. Just that my own memories came crashing back and caught me totally unprepared.'

Her eyes began to fill with tears, ' So many years have gone by but the guilt remains and will remain until...I..'

She looked at him and mimicked her mouth in the same way he had done a few minutes earlier and asked, ' So, it's obvious this cousin, Meenakshi was never spanked or spoken to by her parents. It shows.'

He looked at her with kind eyes and in a tender voice said, ' Don't be in a hurry to judge her, Gayatri. She was not always like this.'

Sighing loudly and in a futile manner to exhale away some bitter memory of her, Ravi nodded, ' I agree that she was born a stubborn and obstinate child but those virtues served her well in her studies and sports but dragged her down and pulled her under when it came to other aspects of her life.'

She did not know why she felt upset, angry and yes, jealous but she was feeling them and then she remembered what she had seen Meenakshi do with the towel in the rearview mirror of the tractor as it left her behind.

Gayatri turned her face away lest he saw and recognised the rage of jealousy that filled her face and soul and then a voice whispered a question, ' what did you do last night while showering? You masturbated thinking of him and you had just met him. compare that with her and how long she has known him and which is all her life. So, stop judging and stop behaving like a silly cow and also think what he must be thinking about you.'

for reference read chapter 12

Gayatri stood under the shower and let the cold water rain down on her. The Manager had offered to send up as many buckets of hot water that she would require but she had politely refused it and instead had opted to bathe in the cold water.

' This cold water is nothing compared to the ones I have waded in, swam, and bathed in most parts of North India for that was cold, bitterly cold' She thought to herself as she gently soaped herself.

She stood facing the large mirror and examined herself. She knew she was a good-looking person and with above-average looks. She was was above average height for an Indian as she stood 5 ft 5 inches on her soles. Her once fair Marathi skin was now a tad tanned although Gayatri suspected that she would carry it throughout her life given her job and passion for Photography, Temple architecture, and pottery.

She turned to her side and examined her body profile and whispered to her reflection in the mirror, ' Not bad for a 43-year-old woman' and then cupped her small breasts that had withstood the pull of gravity and still remained perky with the nipples pointing up into the skies and again and thought, ' Boobs now, where were you during my high school when my boyfriend had tried to stroke them and was disappointed to only find a flat chest and erect nipples.'

' Well, only cows need boobs to feed their calves, not me and this will do' Gayatri laughingly told herself, and then she felt a sudden heat fill her essence and she turned wet with desire.

She gently scolded herself, ' calm down you silly old cow and give your needs a rest. I know it has been many months since you got laid and maybe it is time but definitely not the place and not in this place.'

The real Gayatri stared at the reflecting Gayatri, ' he is something, isn't he? He is not good-looking in a traditional way for his good looks come from the aura that he projects and the way that he carries himself.'

Then she nodded at her reflection, ' I know, I know. Sex is not just about two bodies but more about their minds and their desire for each other.'

She groaned as the pull of her needs began to fill her thoughts and not able to control herself she began to stroke her already aroused C..t and nearly screamed her lungs out for the orgasm was so powerful and it took all her strength to stay on her feet and all she could do was lean on the wall and curse, ' Oh f..K., f..k. f..K me' as the spasms of her huge orgasm racked its way through her body and then a few moments later, Gayatri opened her eyes and blinked again and again and mumbled, ' WTF was that? I have never climaxed like that and not in just seconds.'

She looked at herself and saw her passions and orgasm running down her thighs and mocked herself, ' Not bad you middle-aged cow, there is hope for you yet.'

She put her mobile phone in silent mode, turned off the lights and laid her head, and fell asleep instantly with a pleasant smile filling the lips on her face and a pleasant buzzing feeling in the lips between her legs.

She had not wanted to but had secretly hoped to and there he waited for her and in her dreams.

He gently took her in his arms and buried his mouth in hers and filled her heart with his breath and love.

“One is never too old to yearn.”

Loneliness is often compared to hunger. It's a lack of emotional sustenance, the physical pleasure of being in the company of someone who cares about you. Loneliness also feels a lot like depression, though the two are not the same.

Avan, Aval, Adhu 43

Gayatri threw a short and subtle glance at Ravi whose eyes were on the water and the kids playing in it and turning away she chided herself for feeling what she had thought she had left behind a long time ago. A shallow and despicable emotion that she had wrongly assumed that she had cast out years ago. Jealousy. She had felt it clench its ugly fingers around her mind the moment she had seen Ravi's cousin sister Meenakshi do what she did with the towel that Ravi had used and had returned.

She spoke to herself, ' You are not in high school or in college think such silly things and that too about a man who you met just yesterday. Come on girl, you are now old and mature enough to do better than what you have been doing till now.'

But, jealousy is just not a pushover and fought back with questions. 'Why did that Meenakshi woman use the towel in such a manner? what business does she have with Ravi? Do they both share some kind of history that turned nasty at some point? ' she thought and tortured herself and then she heard him call her name and looked up.

She looked up and went, ' sorry, Ravi. You said something?'

' I was asking you to come back here from wherever you were for you seemed to be someplace far away with your thoughts.'

He looked at her with kind and understanding eyes, ' I am not sure how long you are planning to stay here but as long as you are here, please stay away from my cousin Meenakshi and her family.'

' Why did you say that, include that?'

' say what?'

' and her family. why?'

Ravi Kumar sighed resignedly and looked at her, ' For a reason, Gayatri. Please trust me and please treat it as a request and also remember to follow one simple rule. Never go out on your own and without someone with you. Be it Brahma or any one of the older kids like Thillai and Mekalai.'

His eyes turned towards the pool and filled themselves with the little girl whose name he had just mentioned and nodded his head in affirmation, ' Yes, yes. Mekalai is the best choice to accompany you in case I or Brahma are not around.'

Gayatri accepting Ravi's request bent her head and ruminated over his words but then she had always been that proverbially curious cat, and her claws and fangs twinkled, tinged both with curiosity and mischief and she politely broached the subject of Meenakshi again expecting to learn more and you know what expectations lead to.

' why all these precautions, Ravi?'

' For your own safety and also because I am wiser from the many experiences that I and my village has had with that family.

He fixed her with a look that she was seeing for the very first time in the little time that she had known him and it was a bit of a scary look.

' Gayatri, I mean it. Meenakshi and her family spell trouble. So, please heed my words of caution for you cannot handle her or her family members.'

' Okay boss. Done.'

She had expected Ravi to reply and expand more about the woman and her family. This would have thus paved the way to know the whys and whats about the woman Meenakshi and particularly that act with the towel that Ravi had used to wipe his face and body. When nothing more was forthcoming, she gently declared, ' Must be one heck of a story hidden there.'

He looked at her like she was a child and proceeded to speak to her as if she was a child.

' Gayatri, there is always a story when it comes to people and more so when you are living in places that are still steeped in ancient rituals, caste systems and beliefs.'

She saw his face fill with sadness and she felt the sadness transport itself to her through his words.

' You used the word Utopia to describe our Kumarapalayam. The word means a place where everything is perfect.'

' Ravi, I cannot remember when I last used that word and that itself explains what I think of your village town. It is Utopia for everyone is so happy and more than that they seem so at peace and content. I am trying to recollect if my travels have taken me to such a place before and sadly, I fail to remember such a place as you and your people live in.'

She reached out and gently touched his hand and said, ' Surely, there is a story here that involves you and your village and the other villages. I know you are a very humble and modest man but my heart tells me that you have sacrificed a lot for your people and this land.'

Ravi shook his head and laughed loudly, ' and here I was, my mind all made up about you being a grouchy and moody soul but looks like you are really a Romantic at heart. You and your stories about sacrifice and me.'

' Listen to me please and listen well. I am just an ordinary man who is slightly well-read and well-meaning towards the world and that's it. At the most, I am doing my duty to my people and to my land that is expected of each and every one of us.'

A companion thought to my stories

I find it funny and at the same time amazing that some of the basic virtues essential to a human are the same basic laws and the very foundations on which our species has evolved and has travelled through so many civilizations to reach this point.

Trust, faith, belief, and yes a lot of patience and also yes again, a lot of sacrifices.

Like in that one word called " God" which encompasses all questions and answers and is the key and the lock, maybe the one word Sacrifice encompasses all the virtues needed to be a good human being.

I knew very well that I was not a perfect person and then it took me a long, long time to also know and understand that there is no such thing as perfection,a perfect partner or perfect anything and that the world itself was imperfect

It is a myth, a fantasy and when I stopped craving, yearning to be perfect and make perfect the people and the world around me, I stumbled, fell, hurt my soul many a time and then life asked me, ' WTF is your problem, bro? You are not perfect and yet you want everyone else and everything to be perfect? Isn't that a bit weird and a lot like psychotic behaviour?'

I am imperfect in a perfectly imperfect world and I am happy and at peace, for I have carved an imperfect realm for myself and dwell there with my imperfect friends.

Perfection as I look at it is a very unstable element and designed to exist for brief moments.

Whaat are you going on, madman?

Take a kiss, it is not the same feeling every time. It changes each time you do it. So, Imperfect for perfect never changes.

Take sex. Oh f..k. Yup. Not the same. never the same and always different.

Okay, enough. What about the food we eat, the coffee we drink or take every action and thought and strangely it is not the same?

Evolution.A better version. A better thought and execution and always progression.

See, it is moving, always being moved like the proverbial goal post and in the end there is no such thing as the limit, perfection, and a state of utopia.

I want. She want something else. She want. I don't want = unwanted.

Vaanathai Pola 353

Shinogai could only marvel about Kavita from what she heard her son Radhu narrate about all that took place in that strange forest called Perumalvaram.

' Ayan, baby. This woman is for keeps and this woman must have been surely destined for you and I think she was a gift, a blessing bestowed to you by the merciful Allah.'

' Yes, Ammi and I am grateful to Allah for bringing us together.' A thin smile filled with melancholy filled his face and he looked at his mother, ' I am a lucky soul, mother, to have such strong and beautiful souls like you and Kavita in my life.'

' Radhu, I am still not sure about one thing and that concerns Kavita and how she too is able to read other's thoughts.' She looked at him, ' you, I get for they saved your life through some strange process that I am not able to wrap my brains around but Kavita. How is that possible? Was she injured too?'

' No Ammi. She was unharmed and it was I who took all the bullets that were meant for her.'

He closed his eyes and tried to recollect that moment when the lion stared at him and spoke to him, and he heard them as whispers in his soul. Radha Krishnan aka Ayan Ahmadi aka Adam Connors looked at his mother, ' Ammi, that lion was not just a lion and was something else, and it was talking, discussing my life with someone else.'

' Someone else, you mean someone around you. Maybe that old man called Palam Swamy.'

' No, mother. They did not come near us and he and the other twins called Arul and Jothi, somehow seemed to be aware of what was going to happen and so stayed away and at a distance.'

He said it with conviction, ' I am sure that the lion spoke to two people. One was that Blind Aghori Baba and the other I have no clue but who I am sure is high up in their heirarchy for even that Blind man deferred to him with not only respect but love.'

' All that is okay, baby, I get all that. But, what about Kavita? what happened to her and why was it done what was done to her?

' Ammi, I lay on her lap, bleeding to death. You think, we had time, I mean that lion had time to request Kavita to move away from me while it worked its magic on me?

He smiled and looked at her and Shinogai knew that there was more and looked at her son, worriedly.

' Mother, It was not just me and her but our child which is in her womb that received the magic, the grace that was used to save me from sure death.'

' What? Kavita is pregnant? how? you have been with her for just a week and more, that's it? '

Radhu shrugged shyly, ' hey, don't look at me for answers, woman. I but am a carrier of your's and dad's genes. Blame yourself and ask yourselves as the hows and whys.'

Shinogai looked at her son, her face filled with an incredulous expression, ' I am going to be a grandmom. Wow! I hope it is a mini version of you and your father!'

Radhu's face turned serious and he spoke in mock anger, ' fat chance of that happening, Ammi. I am sure it is a girl and am sure that she is going to be both like you and Kavita and I am also sure that the world will not be able to handle her.'

Vaanathai Pola 214

Nikhil suddenly closed his eyes and raising his hands stuck them out into the sunlight and Renuka stood watching the light strike his tender limbs and thought to herself, ' If his dad was invincible, I wonder what my child is going to be like for he has not only come from Rudy but from the other hidden one, Bhairav' and hurriedly looked down at her son who was staring at her with a smile.

' Nikhil, I keep forgetting that you can read my mind and my heart like your dad' Renuka said and he replied, ' Mother, it is the hidden one who is really powerful. For, power and thought don't reside in limbs and muscles but in the folds of the brain and although the dark one shares dad's body, his power is all-consuming and a terrible one if awakened.'

Renuka saw her son's face change expression as he made one of his weird, trademark expression and stood smiling to himself.

' What is is Nikhil? why the sudden smile, baby?'

' Mother, something strange and wonderful has just taken place far, far away and yet we are all connected to them by blood and by bone through the one true king who seems to have made a momentary appearance.'

Renuka gently lifted her tiny son and holding him close whispered lovingly, ' you and your father are my one and only kings and that is enough for me.'

Nikhil smiled and pointed to the south, ' I see the new one who has just come into being and is just a day old but all that wil change from this moment for her destiny is linked with the destinies of the ones we helped in the hospital today morning.'

Renuka feeling totally lost and confused, ' Baby, who is just a day old and where is she right now?'

Nikhil gently kissed her eyes and said, ' Amma, place your hand on my heart and closing your eyes, see what I see?'

Renuka looking a bit startled asked tentatively, ' What, what will I see Nikhi?'

' The world as I see and the world that only I and a few others can see.'

Renu placed her hand on her son's tiny breast and close her eyes and felt a sudden surge of power rushing through her and she saw them.

She saw a woman in a white saree which was covered with bloodstains and she saw an unconscious man being carried by a huge lion on its back she saw that they were connected and were one.

Renuka saw a strange glow from the woman's womb that seemed to radiate strongly and opening her eyes looked at her son and asked, ' is that a life in her womb and why is it radiating so strongly?'

Nikhil smiled and said, ' that is her spirit and that is her soul for it is going to be a wild one.'

' Nikhil, how do you know that the child is going to be a girl and why do you say that she is going to be a wild one.'

Her tiny tot of a son who seemed to be as large and powerful as the universe to her turned and gave a conspiratorial smile and said the name softly, ' It is so and I also know that she is going to be named after one who came before her.'

' What name and who before her, Nikhil?' Renu asked and Nikhil's answer sent a tingle down her spine.

' Thenmozhi. She will be called that and her path and Vijay's path will cross and they will be one and exist as one.'

Avan, Aval, Adhu 44

She saw him as he sat next to her, calm and like a deep lake with nary a ripple on its surface. She wondered why he appeared so Elemental to her and realized that she sensed him, his core more than she sensed and understood his appearance.

' Ravi' she softly called his name and he turned and looked at her. Realizing that he was waiting for her to say something, she opened her mouth but then panic set in and she shut up and looked down turning her gaze away from him.

' Gayatri, I am your friend. You can talk to me about anything. Go on and ask your questions boldly and I promise to answer them as best as I can.'

' Ravi, I don't have much time to spend here for I will have to move on to my next destination and begin my work there.'

He sat there listening to her with a calm and serene expression and Gayatri snapped her fingers and pointing to him, ' This is what I mean.. This calm and serene aura that you always have around you. How is this possible?'

Pointing to herself with both her hands, ' look at me and how I reacted to your cousin Meenakshi's rude behaviour and compare that with how you handled it so calmly and comfortably.'

She shook her head in confusion, ' You just said that there exists some sort of problem or rivalry between you, your village with your cousin's family and their village. Yet, you stopped and helped to change the tyre of her vehicle.'

Ravi looked at her with a bemused expression, ' I don't get you Gayatri. A person was in trouble and I did what I could to help. No big deal.'

' It is a big deal, boss. Out there in the big bad world and for a person like me who comes from there, it is a big deal.'

She looked at him and then put her fingers to her lips and whistled so loudly that she scared the daylights out of all the birds in the trees.

The whistle was heard by a few kids and Gayatri waved to them and as she suspected would happen, only Mekalai, Thillai and the tiny tot of a girl who had boldly declared that she wanted to be like Ravi when she grew up came running to them and asked her why she had called them.

' All three of you, please answer my question honestly and don't bother about what we will think about your answers.'

Thillai and Mekalai folded their hands across their chest and the tiny tot of three or four saw them and followed suit and unable to handle this cute sight, Gayatri hugged the kutty girl and plonked several kisses on her cheeks and then asked her what her name was.

' My name is Bommi. Full name Bommu Kutty' and then pointing to Ravi, ' Appa, master sir only gave me that name when I was born. My mother told me that.'

Gayatri's ears stung from hearing Bommi's reply and she looked at Ravi, ' appa means dad, father right?'

Ravi nodded and with a smile looked at Mekalai and Thillai and Gayatri too looked at both the kids and it was Mekalai who spoke again.

' Ma'am, we call Mahatma Gandhi as Bapu, The Father of the nation. Does it mean that he fathered all of us?' She stared at Gayatri that felt more like a meaningful glare and continued, ' Master sir is not only like a father to us but also like our mother to us. He is like the Earth that you are sitting on and the tree that you are sitting under.'

Ravi's eyes glittered with tears and he looked at Mekalai and the other kids, ' Enough. That will do for now.'

Ravi told the kids that they could go and continue playing and swimming and then looked at Thillai and said, ' Kanna, I might be gone for ten or twenty minutes to visit Nellai Muthu regarding some fertilizer problem. So, please be alert and keep an eye on the kids.'

' Okay, Master sir. Will do' Thillai said and went back to the makeshift swimming pool that was built by the small lake.

Gayatri's face had turned crimson red with embarrassment and anger at herself and she looked just ripe and ready to either kill or be killed and Ravi sensing the raging tempest in her head, laid a hand on hers and gripped it and said, ' Katrathu Kai Mann Alavu, Kallathathu Ulagalavu.'

She looked at him and he answered, ' It means what we know is equal to a grain of sand and what remains unknown is as vast as the universe.'

' So simple and yet so profound, Ravi. Is it your creation?'

Ravi looked at her, ' No. Those are the words, thoughts and creation of an old lady who is like a mother to me and to my language, Tamil.'

' what is her name and is she around and would it be possible to meet her?'

Ravi's face filled with laughter and unable to control it anymore he burst out laughing and hearing him laugh so loudly, all the kids came running to see what was going on.

The tiny Bommi asked in her trembling voice, ' master appa, what is so funny?'

Ravi looked at all of the kids and then pointed to Gayatri and said, ' Children, our guest here wants to meet Avvaiyar if it is possible.'

Gayatri knew it and mumbled in french, ' Faux pas' and Mekalai nodded wisely and in a very adult manner and said, ' Deja vu' ma'am.'

Totally lost and cornered and not knowing what to do, she gathered a bunch of dried leaves and threw it at Ravi's face and yelled mockingly, ' Hey guys, give me a break. I am not from your land and from Mumbai and so obviously I know very little about your stuff.'

She looked at Mekalai and said, ' Teacher, please enlighten me as to who this Avvaiyar is and where she can be found right now?'

Kutty Bommi tapped her head in disgust and said, ' Ma'am, Avvaiyar paati lived a long time ago and much before Master sir and all of us were born.'
