The surface of the Earth is divided into 7 major and 8 minor plates. The largest plates are the Antarctic, Eurasian, and North American plates. The heat from radioactive processes within the planet's interior causes the plates to move, sometimes toward and sometimes away from each other. This movement is called plate motion, or tectonic shift.
The movement of the plates creates three types of tectonic boundaries: convergent, where plates move into one another; divergent, where plates move apart; and transform, where plates move sideways in relation to each other.
Geography class and that too early in the morning will be your thought but hold on for as always it is life, that I am talking about here, and am using Earth's plates as a parable to explain my thoughts.
So, if the plates on top of the Earth are us, then, the heat and the forces that make the massive plates move is our life.
When we are apart and diverging away from each other it is mostly calm and cool and life goes on smoothly. But problems start when we converge together.
"Survival of the fittest" is a phrase that originated from Darwinian evolutionary theory as a way of describing the mechanism of natural selection and the same applies to the massive plates of this planet for one dominates and the other sinks under in a manner called Subduction.
It is all good and smooth sailing for the meek plate that gets pushed under the bigger, heavier, and stronger plate but there are times when the weaker plate refuses to budge, give an inch, and decides to push back by taking a stand. You guessed right and so pressure, tension begins to build up and sometimes over decades and centuries and then. Well, earthquake and yes, volcanoes and yes, destruction.
Whenever two or more objects come into contact, they either merge as one or end up causing friction, heat, and explosions.
Then we have that third movement where plates slide past each other and we have the same reactions. Earthquakes and volcanoes.
This planet is nearly 4.5 billion years old and sadly it still relies on these three basic movements. Whereas I, a life belonging to the human species am just 300,000 years old and only began using language about 50,000 years ago.
Yet, I, have mastered ( nearly mastered) the movements of diverging, converging, and moving sideways and have choreographed into a beautiful movement.
When things get too complicated and threaten to overpower me, I dissolve and vanish. When things and people begin to slide, grind and cause friction, I dissolve and vanish.
Some say that I am a coward for walking away. Many have accused me of being too meek and timid for not taking on life on my terms.
My answer is I am still standing and am still here and am still ready to run away from earthquakes and volcanoes.
Sometimes it is better to bury your head in the ground and in darkness while the world around you settles down.

“You may search my countenance, but you cannot read it.” Charlotte Brontë, Shirley
Our eyes are windows to our soul and with that to our thoughts. Along with our eyes that reflect our emotions, our facial expressions too, reveal all the commotions our hearts feel in moments of joy and sorrow. Almost all of us have some tic, cue, or mannerism that we display when in times of stress and duress
Poker face is a noun that means a facial expression without emotions. When someone has a poker face, it means their facial expression is blank and hiding their real emotions. It's also possible that the individual has genuinely neutral emotions. Poker face is an idiom that has been around since the 1870s.
A man was considered a good poker player if he never displayed anything and remained blank throughout the game. Then a man with such a blank slate for a face played and lost terribly against another and exclaimed, ' I will be damned but you beat me fair and square. As to how is now the question that I ask of you and I ask it with passion for I displayed nothing on my face or eyes and yet I feel that you were reading me and beating me with that knowledge.'
The man who had won smiled, ' Sir, you are correct in that you displayed no tics or gave out any visible cues that would have informed me if you held a bad hand or a good hand.'
The man who had lost asked eagerly, ' Then how?'
' Sir, I watched the way you breathed and I observed the way you held your chest.'
' What are you going on? My breathing and my chest?'
' Yes sir. When you have a bad hand you tend not to breathe freely and your chest does not move much. But when you have a good hand and good cards in play, you breathe more freely and slowly.'
Rasaathi Ammal looked at Parthiban who spotting the question concerning the caller in her urgent eyes, came closer and whispered, ' Amma, the person who Ravi is talking to is from our tea estate.'
Madhu smiled, ' I heard Ravi address the caller as Beedi man?'
Daksha smiled, ' Rightly so for you can never see him without a beedi in his mouth or hand and a stinking cloud of smoke hanging around his head '.
Then he quickly added, ' We also call him Nostradamus, and rightly so for his real name means just that.'
Rasaathi Ammal tested the name that Ravi had said, ' Devathoothan ' and Madhurima looked at her, ' It sounds like Dev Dhoot. Am I right in saying that?'
The soon to be Mother and Daughter, in law and in life stared at each other and Parthiban catching the funny look on their faces, ' Well, that is a long story but unlike our writer, our creator Mr. Satish Kumar who will bore you to death by going on and on about and that too in great detail about the tiniest and most irrelevant matter, I will keep it short and interesting.'
In a conspiratorial voice, he told them about how Devathoothan had been a badass drunk and how one day he had been struck by lightning and had nearly died.'
Sighing, Partha whispered, ' There were many, including me who wished that he had died because he was such a pain to everyone. But all that changed once he came out of his coma and began predicting everyone's future.'
Madhurima smiled, ' Hence, the title of Nostradamus?'
Daksha joined their huddle and said, ' And rightly so. None of us here know the truth about the so-called Nostradamus but Partha and I are living eye-witnesses to Beedi man's predictions having come true.'
She looked at Rasaathi Ammal and Madhu, ' I know it sounds like a tall story but believe me, everything that he said would happen, happened and sometimes they happened in hours and in days.'
It was obvious to Partha and Daksha that Ravi's mother and Madhurima were not convinced about Beedi man and then he smiled and raised his hand indicating to them to give him a moment, quickly reached into his jacket pocket and brought out a paper and opened it displayed its secret.
Madhurima looked at the drawing of a fish and said exactly what her stepdaughter Gayatri had said to Ravi in the forest. ' ' A fish-eye with a line or what seems like a stake or maybe an arrow in it.'
Rasaathi Ammal took the paper and said exactly what Ravi had said to Gayatri after they had made love to each other, ' It's more than that. A lot more than an eye of a fish with a stake in it. Fish, in Tamil, means Meen, and Akshi which is a Sanskrit word, means Eyes.'
Madhurima gasped in shock and said what Gayatri had said, ' Meenakshi. It means Meenakshi.'

What we've got here is failure to communicate
Some men, you just can't reach
“Let me tell you this: if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it's not because they enjoy solitude. It's because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them.”
I dwell in a two bedroom apartment. A concrete coop, birdcage. But all around our building tall neem trees stand as sentinels casting their shadows on us like gigantic umbrellas. I walked through to the bathroom and froze seeing something shimmering on the wall. Ghosts and shadows. Light and its dance through the windows. I raised my fingers and made a deer and tried to make more but could not for the other hand held the phone. Years, decades have passed by but my fingers danced with the memories and Ghosts of childhood of the past. Light finds you. It always does.
