The average flying time between chennai and delhi is about 2 hours and 55 minutes, give and take ten or fifteen minutes on either the slower or faster side. Now think about the flying time between chennai and london or worse to new york, where the flying time starts anywhere between 10 to 22 hours and then think of what the passengers will do or be like in that duration.

These thoughts filled the young Vijay bhaskars thoughts as the Indigo airplane roared its twin jet engines and took off to fly among clouds and other heavenly creatures.

" Three hours, three long damn hours and all one can do is stay seated" cursed vijay and then leaned forward and picking up the inflight magazine, rapidly browsed through it,when someone tapped his shoulder gently and whispered " Thambi, vijay thambi" and he looked up to see a senior party member Selvarangam hovering and who informed him that Minister Vaidyanathan wanted to chat with him and ahd requested him to come to his seat which was in the first row.

Vijay had no interest or inclination to go meet the snake in a human form, although he thought and smirked that the snake species would take offence for being compared to the monster that vaidyanathan was although he had no choice but to go meet him for they were surrounded by nearly 50 members of their party and not accepting the request would and most probably lead to gossip and he was more worried that his party members would exchange notes about his refusal and put it down to arrogance and disrespect for senior party leaders.

Vijay smiled and unbuckled his belt, thinking " most tensions and fights start thus with these seemingly innocuous circumstances and rejections" and not wanting to give his enemy more fuel to add to the raging fire between their families, stood up and humbly walked towards the senior man who sat in the front row.

Vijay had been sitting in the 21st row and as he slowly made his way towards the first row, many party members old and young stood up and paid their respects with folded hands " Iyaa vanakkam.Thambi vankkam,Appave kettathaan sollunga,Neenga nalla irukannum."

Vijay did not act then and genuinely reflected their love and respect and murmured " Amma naamam Vazhga,Puratchi thalaivar naamam vazhga, nandri, nandri" and slowly reached the first row where he found the minister staring out of the window, deep in thought.

Everyone from the first row to the last row saw the young, shining and rising party star Vijay folding his hands and gently bowing with reverence to the minister who was seated and out of their sight and then the minister stood and wishing vijay requested him to sit next to him and both sat down, facing each other, day and night, predator and prey, good and bad, angel and demon and both exchanged false smiles and a show of affection that would have put even great actors like shivaji and kamal and not to forget amitabh to shame.

Minister vaidyanathan with a evil smile stared for many a second at Vijay's face and vijay not backing down stared back and the older man spat his venom " Your acting has improved by leaps and bounds."

" Yes sir, anna, thanks to seniors like you,i have perfected the art of acting and wearing masks to suit the occasion."

Vaidyanathan's eyes turned angry with the rebuke " Why me young man? why me when you have your dad who is as much as an expert as me?

" True sir and spoke with real experience. But,sadly my dad and you seem to be like the north and south poles for there is so much difference between both of you."

Leaning closer to the older man,the young Vijay whispered with a twinkle " You sir are like darkness, poison and pure evil while my father is pure and has always been on the side of the weak and the needy. So,there is little that i can learn from him for he has taught me all that by just being my father and sharing his sacred blood with me.But you anna, from you i have learnt how to cheat, scheme, murder, maim and destroy lives with a smile and loving eyes and without any remorse or guilt."

Minister Vaidyanthan absorbed all that vijay said with great calm and poise and then in a measured voice growled " All this because of one man and his support.Take him out of the equation and then you are all at my mercy."

Vijay smiled happily and spoke his taunt with twinkling eyes " You tried and failed and you will keep on trying and you will keep on failing. For,that one person is no ordinary person and his name is Raman."

Vaidyanathan laughed and all the party members kept imagining and dreaming that the older and younger man were getting on like a house on fire and deputy chief minister OPS remarked to the Asst chief secretary janardhanan " I thought there has been a quiet and subtle rivalry between those two families and yet here is young vijay chatting happily with that madman."

In the privacy of the first row,Minister vaidyanathan nodded " Okay he is raman and so if that makes me Raavan, then what does it make you, child?"

" Laxman sir, obviously it makes me Laxman and like the younger brother of that great hero,i will lay down my life for his and his family's safety."

Vijay stood up and bent his head in respect and took leave from the minister and returned to his seat.

Minister vaidyanathan sighed sadly and pushed his seat back with great force and the poor party member who sat behind him and who had his food tray filled with hot coffee and breakfast cursed as it all slammed into his clothes and happily the minister in the front seat closed his eyes and told himself " soon, you will have to lay down your life for him and that goes for everyone who will come between me killing raman.Soon, very soon it will happen and then we will see who will go on with their acting and masks and who will be the last man standing."

Hi friends,

I found this article about Superstar while browsing for a song and i thought you readers might like it.It was in a site that i had never heard about before and i guess there are millions of sites with a million nuggets of interesting information about life and our favourite subjects

The Enduring Legend of Rajini

Who is Rajinikanth? The question dangled like a marionette before digital eyes, waiting to be choreographed, toyed with, ripped to shreds. Posed earlier this year on Quora, an online platform that crowdsources answers, it inspired responses ranging from the pedantic to the parodic. Why ask a question that could crash the website's servers, quipped a contributor with a mustachioed baby for a profile picture, echoing a Chuck Norris meme. Someone else copy- pasted a rudimentary biography in good faith even as jokes thick with the superior scorn of cultural pundits flew like so many goons thwacked by the action king. One thing was clear. Everyone knew Rajinikanth; no one knew Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth's rise to stardom is a paranormal event in the history of Tamil cinema, like crop circles or strange radio noise. Sum up his exaggerated mannerisms, defying not just the laws of physics and at the age of 64, biologybut also the industry's comfortable assumptions of rosy beauty and accurate diction, and you still can't put a finger on why people love Rajinikanth. "Someday, some astrologer or scientist will find out why he became a star. And the world will make sense again, jokes an actor who has enjoyed a ringside view of Rajnikanth's dizzying career. Early on, his former mentor, K Balachander, the ailing filmmaker who launched him in Apoorva Ragangal (Rare Ragas', 1975), was stumped by the Rajinikanth phenomenon. A stickler for diction and modulation, he had demanded perfection from his actors, onstage and in cinema. Until Rajinikanth came along. "I could never make him follow my rules. His was a peculiar type of dialogue delivery. It went against the grammar as I saw it, Balachander, who directed him in nine Tamil films, said. "He broke my rules and made some new ones. And I happened to get the credit. I just exposed his facets as much as I could to the world. He went beyond that and became something else, a star of his own making. Balachander knew the actor's limitations and gave him short dialogues that he could deliver with panache through gritted teeth, as was his style. He employed sharp close- ups, exploiting Rajini's speed, his abrupt movements and his irreverent style to sow the seeds of an image-building exercise that has lasted 40 years.

An ageing Rajinikanth, saddled with this image, is a lone star who cannot, at any cost, go gently into the night, leaving a generation of fans groping in the dark. Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, a coolie and a bus conductor in a previous life in Bangalore, is arguably the brightest star in the Indian cinematic firmament today. But watching the first show of Lingaa at a multiplex in Bangalore, I get the sense of a rollercoaster hurtling to a stop even as his fansmostly men under 35hanker for bigger thrills. The film opens with Rajinikanth as the eponymous thief, flicking not just jewellery but an entire scene from How to Steal a Million, an Audrey Hepburn heist comedy from 1966. He slurs a ridiculous excuse for his wayward acts: his grandfather Lingeshwaran, played by a Rajinikanth whose wardrobe can put Arpita Khan's trousseau to shame, used up his royal wealth to build a dam for the people of his village, depriving his son of an inheritance. Now the grandson, on the run from police, finds himself in Solaiyur, where a saga of good and evil is about to unravel, just as it did 75 years ago. A revealing flashback its ghastly anachronisms will do the rounds of Twitter for weeks to come persuades Lingaa not to exact the precious revenge of a wronged successor. He goes on to thwart an act of terrorism in the village while saving the bridge and his girl, all in one fell swoop from a hot air balloon. The audience, by now, is visibly vexed at Rajini's arm's-length romances with leading ladies less than half his age. The villains, a Tamil-speaking Englishman and a Hindi-spouting politician, are caricatures, and Lingaa, with all his makeup, is a travesty to the angsty Surya of Thalapathi and the Baasha whose angelic smile as he is tied to a pole and flogged in public view evoked Biblical imagery.

Perhaps it is the vicarious fantasy of this larger-than-life existence that appeals to fans, says Sadanand Menon, a film writer and journalist. "Enthiran (2010) could have been his swan song. Even then, his image was so big that his character had to multiply himself a thousand times to satisfy consumer demand. Now, filmmakers are left with no choice but to simply pluck him out of reality. In the past, he has played characters who were poor or who dealt with caste issues. The last 10 films or so, he has bid goodbye to all that. It is about pure entertainment now, Menon says. The film itself has receded to the background, and the star now occupies centrestage.

There is something intangible about Rajini and the way he makes everything seem right with the world that sets him apart from the rest, say fans. "He truly entertains; his charisma and swagger make you look past logic, reason and substance. The real question is, why do so many people suspend disbelief for Rajinikanth like they do for no one else? And that is a question that has no answer, says Kaushik Nadadhur, a Bangalore- based software engineer and a film buff.

The answer, not to be found in the trademark swish of his towel, is woven into the skein of ideals that Rajinikanth wears about him in real life. Conspicuously absent from Lingaa are the superstar's preposterous punch lines and mannerismsexcept for three scenes where he twists a lock of his hair in contemplationthat are said to make or break the prospects of a film. But director KS Ravikumar is unfazed. "We felt it was not needed. More than an actor, he is a good human being. Slowly people have realised that. The character of Lingaa, who gives away his riches to the people, wouldn't have suited any other actor. Rajini sir has earned an image like that, he says. "Lingaa, in that sense, is almost a living character.

Rajinikanth the man has remained unchanged in the past 20 years that he has known him, Ravikumar says. In 1994, at a private screening of Sakthivel, the director's ninth Tamil film, in Chennai's AVM Studios, a lone man sat silhouetted against the screen. It was Rajini. He did not speak till the film was over. And then he grabbed Ravikumar by the hand and asked him, "How did you wrap this film up in 23 days? You are a rakshasan (demon). The two soon teamed up for Muthu (1995), a commentary on the Zamindari system peppered liberally with political lines. Ravikumar would stretch the political subtext in Lingaa where Rajini's sidekicks beseech him to go to Parliament or to become "a PM, a CM or a governor.

Ahead of directing Rajinikanth in Sivaji (2007), Shanmugam Shankar, one of India's leading filmmakers, nervously asked Ravikumar what type' of a man the superstar was. "I laughed. He is like a child. He has a golden heart, I told him, Ravikumar says. The formidable aura of a superstar, contrasted with his offscreen personality as an average Joe who appears unkempt, leads a Spartan life and makes spiritual sojourns to the Himalayas, has grown into a full-blown sensation spanning a cross-section of viewers. "People want real heroes they can look up to. Rajini sir is the only one who doesn't act offscreen, says Abirami Ramanathan, managing director of Abirami Mega Mall in Purasawalkam, Chennai, and a film distributor. "He is the James Bond of Tamil Nadu, doing impossible things, but he is also sending a moral message through his pictures, whether it is faith in God or respect towards one's mother.

When Ramanathan co-produced Bloodstone, a low-budget 1988 Hollywood film, Rajinikanth was excited about reaching a wider audience even if he only spoke halting English. "His English was not so good and we hired a tutor for him from the American consulate. He learnt in just six or seven days, Ramanathan says. "He didn't worry about how he would look onscreen speaking English.

"He has influenced people to be good and to do better, says R Rajaji Maran, 46, an auto driver from Mylapore, Chennai, who gave up smoking when Rajinikanth stopped flicking cigarettes onscreen. "So many of us learnt family values after watching Rajini sir's movies. We do not perform the ritual of paal abhishekam (a milk bath performed on cutouts of popular stars across south India); we organise free lunches for the needy instead. Would Maran, who supports a family of four, including his two teenage daughters, like to see his idol play a father? "If he plays older roles, he may not draw young audiences, he worries. According to Ramanathan, viewers between the ages of 15 and 30 form the largest theatre-going segment. Families may go out to watch a film over the weekend, but they are largely devoted to TV, he says.

A Rajinikanth film is entertaining because he loves acting and gets immersed in the role, says SP Muthuraman, a filmmaker who directed the superstar in 25 films. "He has to digest the subject first. Until he is clear about the character, he will keep asking questions. After that, performance is easy, he says. The Rajini-Muthuraman duo tasted commercial success with hits like Murattu Kaalai (Rogue Bull', 1980) and Nallavanukku Nallavan (Good Man for Good Man', 1984), but when they occasionally veered off the beaten track, the results sparkled. Their first collaboration, Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri (Bhuvana is a Question Mark', 1977), was a signpost in Rajinikanth's career, marking his transition from a vulgar villain to a hero. In Netrikkan (The Third Eye', 1981), Rajinikanth would essay the dual roles of a rapist father and his son who redeems him. "People who say Rajinikanth's repertoire is narrow haven't watched films like Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai (From Six to Sixty', 1979) and Engeyo Ketta Kural (A Voice Heard Somewhere', 1982). These were family films loaded with sentiment. And they won him a female audience, Muthuraman says.

In a misogynistic industry where the hero is rarely matched by a woman of equal calibre, Rajinikanth, in the 1999 blockbuster Padayappa, ensured that Ramya Krishnan's vengeful Nilambari would remain unforgettable. "He essentially sketched out her character, says Ravikumar, who directed the film. "She remains unrelenting till her last breath. When I agreed to the story, he told me he had taken it to other directors who advised him against going with it. I believed in him and he believed in the story and that is all that mattered.

"Rajinikanth was happy to see his co-stars come up. When we were shooting Guru Sishyan (1988), he gave up some fight scenes for his co-star Prabhu. Who does that? Muthuraman asks. "The reason he is a superstar is because of his humanity. Victory did not come easy to him, says the filmmaker, whose Manithan (The Human', 1987), was inspired by Rajinikanth.

Rajini is the rightful heir to MGR's righteous cinematic legacy. But he also represents a dangerous dream, says Menon. "Without being overtly political like MGR, he hints at a supra-politics that is above democracy. His characters are often victims of the system and they supersede structure to deliver justice in their own way. In his films there is a sense of hankering for a political monolith, he says.

The convoluted politics of Rajinikanth and his popularity must be viewed in the context of Tamil Nadu's history, says K Hariharan, a filmmaker and a professor. "MGR had championed the so-called utopia for the Tamil people and the people felt grossly betrayed when Dravidian leaders capitulated to Indira Gandhi during the Emergency. This paved the way for Rajinikanth to emerge as the countercultural alternative. He was an MGR icon turned upside down. Whatever MGR was, Rajinikanth was not, Hariharan says. Where MGR has been fair and curly-haired, Rajini was dark and uncouth; he smoked, drank and swore, and the audience loved it. "Had any other male star of some repute hit the screens at the time, he would have emerged an icon, he says. As Rajini became the antithesis to MGR, another Balachander protg, the much- heralded Kamal Hassan, staked claim to Sivaji Ganesan's throne. Between 1976 and 1986, each of them made a hundred films. After sharing screen space in several films, they had made a calculated decision not to act together again. "They made a deal that every time a producer signed one of them, he would have to sign the other the next time around. Rajini and Kamal were post- colonial heroes, exalted to stardom by fans who got from them the emotional software to transit from the Dravidian era to the modern age, Hariharan says.

Neither of them was a completely self- made star, and this is why they never endorsed products, Hariharan says. "They knew these images were given to them by their fans. There was no way they are going to sell their respect and regard for a product; they would use their fan base only to endorse their own myth, he says. Rajinikanth's films in particular keep self-referencing his body of work in a way that is extremely mythological. He is his own whetstone and he has spawned a new heroism in Tamil cinema. "Because of Rajini, everybody who wants to become a mass hero today has to have an astonishingly larger-than-life image, says Baradwaj Rangan, film critic for The Hindu newspaper. "His is a unique case. Hollywood action heroes like Sylvester Stallone are a joke today, but Rajini gives his fans what they want and he still has crores of rupees riding on him, Rangan says. "He is the only superstar who comes without an expiry date.

Rajinikanth was also the first dark- skinned hero with the confidence to romance a Sridevi or a Gautami. And he made a cult out of it, singing songs that celebrated his skin tone. "He was the cloud that rained on Tamil cinema, and after him, there was a rainbow of diversity, says Arul Murugan, 26, a management student from Madurai and a fan of Rajinikanth's son-in-law, actor Dhanush. "We all hope that Dhanush inherits superstar Rajini's mantle.

No matter how big a star, Rajini would bum a beedi off a lightman and stand up to greet anyone who was introduced to him. "He never forgot the old times, says Kavithalayaa Krishnan, an actor who has worked under Balachander for over three decades. Krishnan met a gangly, young Shivaji Rao for the first time at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai, where Balachander was shooting the opening scene of Apurva Ragangal. "We got introduced and he preferred to speak in Tamil rather than English. We shared a cigarette and I wished him good luck, he says. After a fortuitous meeting a few months after, Krishnan would drop him on his two-wheeler to the Music Academy bus stop. "Years later, when he recognised me at a shoot, I was hesitant, but he said, I never forget my khaki shirt and my friends. You bought me a cigarette and wished me luck on my first shoot, how can I forget that?' My sister, who witnessed the scene, was in tears, Krishnan says. "Rajini's lack of pretensions is a key reason for his popularity.

Muthuraman quotes a kurala couplet by Tamil poet Thiruvalluvarthat he says best describes Rajinikanth's celebrity: Ullathal poiyathu ozhugin ulagathar Ullathul ellam ulan (One who is sincere at heart will find a place in people's hearts).

Once a devotee asked mahaswamigal why do we keep food for crows during mahalayam?
Are our ancestors taking forms of crows? Why do they come as this low bird?
Why not a high standard bird?

With a gentle smile Mahaswamigal answered, we call crow kaka in Tamil. Do we address any other creature by its sound? Do we call cat meow? Because a parrot says kiki do we call it kiki? The crow is called by its sound that makes it special.
Ka means kaapathu or protect me...so when you keep food for a crow and say "kaa kaa", you are asking your ancestors to protect you!
You say a crow is lowly because it is freely available anf it eats anything! But let me tell you a crow is beautiful. Why?
It wakes up at bramhamuhurtam...it caws and wakes you up...even cocks may not wake up on time many days-they are moody...but a crow is on time...it says "kaka" and wakes you up at bramhamuhurtam apt to do japam. It is such an amazing guide for pooja no?
Further, it calls other crows when it gets food...not seen in other creatures teaching humans to share their food.
Then in the evening before it sleeps, it again says "kaka" to thank god for all that happened that day!
Also crows don't eat after sunset which is according to shastras...how many people follow this?

Hence, i feel a crow is not lowly...it teaches us so much. Hence pitrus come as crows.
And one more...keep food for crows everyday not only during mahalayam.

Crow also teaches advaitam! When a crow sees the food you have kept it gets happy and eats it. Seeing it eat you get happy too. So both of you get happy...both of you are bhagawan! This is the explanation!

Hearing this the questioner devotee and all others did namaskaram and a chorus erupted, "jaya jaya shankara hara hara shankara".

Vijay bhaskar, son of Finance minister Durai murugan had never dreamt of a career in politics and had developed an instinctive feeling of distaste for politics and politicians from the time he was a young boy

He had been the first child for his parents and had been born in 1987,the year their party leader and the then Chief minister MGR had passed away. But,the ailing and frail MGR had come home for his naming ceremony and it was he who had bestowed the name Vijay on him and it was said that he had held the baby Vijay for a long time in his lap and even today, that photo of MGR and vijay looking at each other and smiling happily decorated the hall of their house.

Vijay bhaskar straightened his seat as requested by the air hostess, for the Pilot had announced their descent into the delhi airport, where they would be landing in about twenty minutes.

Shrugging off the filth and stress he felt when near people like Vaidyanathan,Vijay recollected his younger days and his college days during which he had nursed a hatred for the way politics was being run in the state and in the country and had vowed that he would never step into the cesspool that was Tamil nadu politics and their blatant and open corruption.

But all that had changed that evening when,he and his sister had been attacked in their college and his anger and rage had broken through and it was during that moment he had decided that he would enter politics and he would make an honest attempt to bring about changes in the quality of people's lives.

His rise had been slow, steady from his entry into college politics and into the youth wing of AIADMK and then it suddenly turned meteoric when he had taken the stage and roared his disgust and distaste at the way tamil people were leading their lives and how thick skinned they had become to people in power and the same people when they were out of power. This speech had been delivered in a Madurai college function where he was the chief guest he had called the youth to mobilize and think of the tamil state as one big family.

"My people,my brothers,my sisters,Why is there so much division among us? Why are we still sliding down in terms of economic equality and quality of life? Is the language Tamil more important than the culture called Tamil. Why can't we all unite and work as one family? is that so difficult or are you going to relax and live in a world of freebies with free tvs, free buckets, free houses and free food and booze."

Those words had brought him to the attention of Jayalalitha herself and from then Vijay's rise in the party had been up and up and rumors were whispered that Amma herself was grooming him for bigger and better things and that was not limited to the state level but on the national level too.

Vijay had been offered an MLA seat and also an Mp seat but he had refused them both and had politely told AMMA that he wanted to spend some more time in the grass root levels of the party and learning more of what the state and its people needed.

This had only increased his stature and standing in the party and in their leader's eyes and then his sister Kavita had made an entry into the party and her rise was even more faster and higher and in a much shorter period.

Vijay smiled and thought proudly of his sister for,she was a even more of a tough cookie and one who never retreated or gave up,even an inch when faced with problems that life and politics threw at her.And it was not only her spirit but her speech and thoughts which were a mix of Amma, their leader and the great bharathiyar who she could quote without a moments hesitation.

But even after becoming an active politician,Vijay still could not hide his disgust when he saw for himself the corruption and misuse of power that was being indulged by his own party members. There had been many a time when he had wanted to quit the party and start a movement of his own but his father and sister had stayed him and had steadied him with their wisdom.

His father, durai murugan had told him "Vijay, your time will come and so will a time for kavita and then you can do wonders and covert your dreams and goal into reality.Starting a new party will not help for in our state, the people will vote only for DMK or AIADMK and nobody else will matter, not even rajini or kamal. So,wait and watch and prepare for the changes that you dream of cannot be translated into action in one day or even one year. These are huge and monumental reforms and for that you will have to have power and the majority votes of the people."

His father had recollected an event that had taken place many decades ago " Vijay, when Puratchi thalaivar came to power for the first time, there was absolutely no corruption and he ran a clean govt but then when he began to promote lot of schemes such as Mid-day meal schemes, the executive branch, the IAS officers told him in no uncertain terms that the coffers of the state were empty and that they could provide or set aside money needed for his economic reforms and schemes. That is when, prohibition against alcohol and arrack were lifted and Ramasamy Udayar,a close associate of MGR became the first liquor manufacturer when the state govt lifted the liquor ban and started Mohan Breweries and Distilleries.

It was money from udayar's booze sales that put food in all the children's bellies that went to govt school. This was considered Contradictory but the choice was between children or their drunken fathers and thus started the first steps of corruption that then broke loose and ramapaged after the Thalaivar fell sick and soon, the inner circle began to take control and they comprised,Nedunchaziyan and R.M.veerappan and Hande."

The flight landed gently and ran itself slowly to a gentle crawl and soon came to a halt.Vijay lost in his thoughts and dreams forgot that he had placed his phone in the front pocket of the seat before him and drowned in the thoughts of a great Tamil Nadu,he rose slowly and exited the plane. The phone had been switched off as per rules and it now lay dead in silence and in mute rigor.

At the same time, raman decided that he would call vijay and advise him not to walk around alone in delhi and without security and dialed his mobile number but could not reach him.

Assuming that he was still in the flight,Raman whatsapped a message " Vijay, please call me when you read this message. All the best."

Actors and Politics and the What if's-1

As of this moment,i think Stalin will make a better chief minister than the others in the fray in the next assembly elections, all though i have my reservations about his party and its members. He has the experience,is the sole and undisputed title holder of his party and now in his mid 60's is also hopefully wiser, kinder and is aware of his duty to the people and state of Tamil Nadu.

On a lighter note,i think Stalin should have changed his name the moment he became aware of its significance and also the dictator who went by the same name who has been offically documented with proof to have killed more people than Hitler himself.( Why boss, why did your dad name you thus and name the others Azhagiri, muthu,Kanimozhi and so and why not a beautiful original tamil name)

The reason for the first line in which i state that Stalin will make a better chief minister is because sadly,Tamil nadu politics and its economic growth is languishing in quick sand and the truth is it has been doing that for many decades now.

I wonder what would have been the fate of Tamil nadu if Periyar had decided to enter politics with his party,DK(DRAVIDA KAZHAGAM)for then Anna would not have broken away and formed his own party, which is DMK( DRAVIDA MUNNETRA KAZHAGAM).

I wonder if MGR would have even thought of his own party if Anna had not died so suddenly, after just two years of being a chief minister and was then supposedly ill treated by Karunanidhi, his best friend who was made the chief minister by MGR himself.

I wonder what karunanidhi thought and rued as he sat opposite MGR in the Assembly and watched him carry out his duties as the new chief minister.

Maybe,he would have regretted his actions in which he had antagonised and dared the actor MGR to start his own party and pit it against the mighty DMK,which funnily enough MGR did in 1972 and swept into power in 1977.And all this drama when MGR had openly stated that he never wanted to be a politician and wanted to just get on with his life of an actor.

But this lesson was well learnt by Karunanidhi's son Stalin for he never launched a direct attack with vicious words against AMMA and it is a well known and documented fact that they treated each other with respect and were very cordial when they came face to face.

One can become a great leader and still suck at being a good politician and also suck even more at good governance.

The word leader is not lightly used in this context and yet it is a status that can be reached by simply being a famous actor,at least in Tamil nadu.

Now,think back to the time when a temple was built for Kushboo,a Muslim born Nakhat Khan and you will ponder and wonder to what great lengths fans will go,will do to show their love or in this case lust filled fantasies about their idol.

It was after the release of the blockbuster " Chinna thambi" that the Kush rage began and really caught fire in the minds of many adult males of tamil nadu which resulted in a temple being built in her honor in Trichy called " Kushambigal Devaalayam".

This pic is from the temple's Kumbabhishekam and with heel laden leg over the other, the actress sits and lords over the proceedings.

Maybe, she found it so ridiculous, the fact that a temple had been built for her and for what if not her so obvious looks and assets that led her to sit like that in public and that too before her fans of whom what she felt is obvious disdain. At least i hope it was so.

Leaving Goddess kush aside,i state the obvious chasm, gaping hole, vacuum that has now revealed itself openly and much to the disconcert and distress of the two major parties,DMK and AIADMK.

This Pandora's box has well and truly been opened after the death of Amma and rather than taking it easy and slow, the Chinnamma decided to dress like her, talk like her,act like her and attempted to become the chief minister and much to her shock and much to the amusement of the Modi and amit shah led BJP govt, she was convicted and sentenced and sent to Bengaluru for a four year Vanavaasam. The polarising factor, the unifying factor out of the way,the political Sadhurangam was begun by Sakuni BJP and all hell broke loose in the first few months of 2017 and only the meteoric rise of TTV,made EPS and OPS to join hands and that only in their unity could a AIADMK rule continue and finish out its term in 2021.

These thoughts that i have put down began with words and reflections of many gym members that felt like kicks thrown by them at my groin and tummy and left me in a daze.

One guy,an actor Ajith's fan whispered to me " Thalai will make a great chief minister for he is a very kind soul" and all the while,i thought " Thambi,i know he makes good Biriyani, but a good chief minister."

Many claimed that superstar rajini was going to become the Chief minister and that he was going to fulfill his destiny.

The flop films " Baba,Kuselan,Kochadaiiyaan,Lingaa,Kaala" and the sad " Kabali" came to my mind and i wondered " a man who cannot choose good scripts after decades of experience and he is going to become the chief minister, wonder what his choices will be"

Sadly, even in the gym, only few thought that Kamal hassan would make a good chief minister and i stress on the word would and even they were hard pressed to explain how and even more confused by kamal's speeches that keeps confusing the man himself.

Maybe, kamal is the reincarnation of the great and wise Confucius which is just hard to imagine or comprehend and is maybe in truth confusion himself like his films and like his speeches on stage, especially in the just finished Big boss season two.

But then anything is possible for if a temple can be built for an actress for her glamor and glimmer, then surely and most definitely kamal or rajni can become the next chief minister and maybe even Thalai ajith himself too.

Ennada nadaukuthu intha statela.

Ore oru pombala poitta, athanaale ivalavvu galattavum,Kuzhapama.Yaaruda athu.

Avangathaan Amma. So,ippo theriyutha avanga gethu eppadi irunthathunnu.

Pause for a cause

I thought i knew a little bit of women and their cycles for i grew up among five of my cousin sisters and have many a time been sent to the shop for Napkins.I remember vividly the ancient times when i used to come back from school and see one of them sitting alone at the back entrance of the house and i used to panic and fear the worst for them for growing up we all knew very well about punishment and being grounded and that too harshly by our elders.

Thanks to my aunt, our guardian,we had boarding, lodging and schooling and with that freebies came many bonuses of the wrong and harsh kind which on hindsight i have made peace with, now in my early middle age.

Aruna,Asha,Sujatha,Vanith,Bindu,Mamta although Mammu came and left like a tsunami and my eyeballs still pop out seeing her with three daughters and a son.And then there were the regular and seasonal visitors that came, stayed, left and sometimes vanished from our lives and some of them have passed on.

When my journey started with my wife,i thought i knew more or less everything that was needed by a man to function in harmony and soon they sky fell on my head and the pie was splattered into my face and i have no doubt that she felt the same way and worse about me.For,i myself find it difficult to live with myself and god help others who are in close proximity.

But,the start of the forties slowly began to dawn on about Menopause, mood swings, hot flushes and so many other subtle stuff.

The first thing that flies out of the window is well ( SEX) and you stare at it as it takes wing and leaves behind another woman who is being haunted my this entity called Hormone.

It took me sometime and then i began to realize that this state called Menopause is really a serious thing that a woman goes through in her middle age and all though there is not a lot a partner can do about it,the least he can do is give her space and take a lot of cold showers ( all alone and preferably with ice water)

Seriously, give her space and honestly speaking, let her begin anything and everything and for gods sake let her end it too.

But on a more emotional note, this transition period that a woman goes from the last vestiges of being able to create a new life and into a new version herself has only increased my knowledge and awareness about her and has made me more human and more protective of her.

There is a popular saying in tamil " Thaikku pin Thaaram " and not contesting that,i think husbands too should be given some credit as they stand by in quiet and in love and stand by their woman as she transcends her hormones and enters the next stage of woman hood.

Instead of spewing technical stuff,i will make it legible and easily understandable and give you a few tips that have served me well.

1- Stay out of sight.
2-obey without any show of protest
3-eat what is put near your gob
4-throw up but make sure she has gone to sleep
5-try to learn chemistry and try to master the art of becoming invisible
6-smoke a lot of grass and have a goofy smile pasted while she glares at you
7-say,i love you baby, once every few minutes and run for your life
8-keep a rope hanging from your window to make a quick getaway
9-tell the local thieves that your wife is going through menopause and they will comfort you and not try to steal from your house
10-lastly and most importantly, learn to pray and learn ahimsa

Happy Gandhi jayanthi

Redemption 275

Renuka knew better than to call Rudran for the haste and secrecy in which he had exited their Limousine on the way to the hotel from the airport leaving behind Dr.Otto's son,Benjamin to take his place had alerted her and everyone that they were being watched and that their every movement was being closely monitored.

Even a layperson, knows that phone calls can be listened in on by tapping and that mobile calls could be recorded and verified by spy satellites of all nations.

Renuka was the wife of a super spy himself and had over the months learnt, listened and had been taught by rudran himself and to top it,she was not a layperson, not in the least.

But just as she was thinking about him,her mobile phone rang and she punched in a series of numbers and alphabets and answered the call. She did this using an APP that Rudran had installed in her mobile, courtesy of the most brilliant cyber minds that guarded India from hackers of other nations and importantly cyber terrorists.

As he was installing the App into her mobile,he had told her that it would take even a top spy agency like NSA of the united states a year or more to crack her security and that too with the help of super computers.

Even across the Atlantic, she heard the familiar noises of New york clearly and she knew that he was out and about and most probably marking and tracking the people that would have to be dealt and done with.

" Hi baby, how is it going sweetie?"

Rudran smiled " well ma'am,honestly,my bed and body feel lost and lonely without you by my side."

" Then my lover, that should be a great incentive for you to finish up and get back to me and your son as quickly as possible."

" Renu, the first part went off well and i have baited the person i am after and it now remains for him to take the bait and enter my trap. Then i can wrap up and leave to london to be with you and Nikhil."

Further north,in Washington,Malcolm Andrews hovered over John as his fingers raced over the keyboard trying to find a way into the conversation that was happening before them, but to no avail.

John looked at their team leader" Sorry Malcolm but this mobile is encrypted and it will take a long time to break into it and my opinion is that it is just a waste of time and resources."

Malcolm andrews stepped back and nodded calmly " I know john and thank you for voicing my thoughts. But,we need to show the president results for he has personally invested a lot of trust in us and more importantly vouched for us and that too in front of all the top security depts."

He stared out into the clear blue skies that blanketed Washington and spoke " John, the last time,a single organisation was bestowed with such power and access to information was after the " 9/11,2001 attacks in new york and thus was born the dept of Homeland security which is a single stop entry for all information regarding threats to our country from inside and abroad. We have to and we need to focus more and get to the bottom of it for the sake of our nation and our president."

Just then Kenneth who was the team member in charge of monitoring video signals from all their sources came running in and looked at both of them " Guys,i think we may have something. Not sure but a slim chance that it could be this person we are after."

Malcolm and john quickly followed Kenneth and joined Matt and steve and dave and matt played a video that showed a man wearing a baseball cap and strolling through the streets of Manhattan,Central park,New york.

Even for their brilliant autistic, savant minds,it took them three times of watching the video to memorize the man,his mannerisms( that were not visible) and the way in which he walked and moved and then they tried to reference it with a few official videos of rudran that they got through the courtesy of U.S.Army intelligence and compared it and this exercise only left them frustrated and upset, though none showed it but all felt a glimmer of it in their differently abled brains.

Hi Satish,

Just wanted to let you know that I enjoy reading all of your posts...
but I was especially impressed recently by your "pause for a cause" post.

It is so wonderful to read about a so-called taboo topic for many women (menopause) on a public forum - that too, from a man's point of view!! - with some added humour.

I often feel it is the woman who makes such things taboo to talk about because they feel it may make the man in the house/ work/ society feel uncomfortable to deal with them.

I remember when I knew I was hours away from giving birth to my baby in the hospital, I deliberately rang my husband at home and insisted he should take his family and relatives out for shopping in the mall that day. He was very clueless as to why I would say something so silly like that. I knew he was in no mood to shop or entertain anyone when his wife was lying in hospital bed for 2 months...but I got him to go/ leave/ vanish/ disappear from the scene. I did it simply because I knew he could not handle to see me endure such pain. I just knew he could not watch me go through all that stuff.
I remember while I was in labour, the nurse rang him up from the hospital and said "This is to inform you that your wife is going to have her baby...like right now!!" and he was already miles away from me...he literally dumped his family in the middle of the mall and took the car in ultra speed...only to be trapped in every traffic signal that day... 😆
It brings back hilarious memories...but by the time he reached the hospital, he saw both me and the newborn boy were just fine. He just missed the drama. But I was secretly so glad that he did! He was very emotional when he saw me and cried that day.

There is a strange need to protect the loved one, at all cost. At any cost.

The flip side is that with too much need to protect, more collateral damage might be done.

I say this because I remember living in hostel while in college and I studied with a few girls who told me what it was like growing up in a house with an over-protective father/ brother/ man at home.
You grow up believing you do not want to disappoint him.
You do not want to bring disgrace to him.
You do not want to harm him.
You want to continue to be his only favourite and impress him.
You want to protect him. At all cost. At any cost.

I remember a girl narrating this story that her father was too poor to have a tv set at home. He loved her and gave her his best. But he couldn't afford to buy her a tv. As it was - she only wanted to watch tv!! For a school going kid who did not have a tv at home, it racked her brain when other kids talked about tv shows that she had no clue about. And back then, Doordharshan and the newly emerged sun tv meant everything to her.
So her dad was nice enough to let her go and watch her favourite evening tv show in their neighbour's home.
Of course, her dad...like any good man...trusted his neighbours and got permission for his girl to watch tv and then come home. He felt grateful for their polite gesture.
What her father didn't know was that there was this one Friday night when Oliyum Oliyum was on and the neighbour's wife went to the temple and it was just the girl and the man in the house. She was busy watching tv next to this man, when he began to inappropriately touch her, and tried to molest her. She was too young to understand what was happening, but knew it made her uncomfortable and so it had to be wrong. Half an hour later, his wife returned from the temple.
The girl never revealed these details to her father. Her father and the neighbour continued to share food and be such good friends. They later moved out of the neighbourhood. But it is a secret burden she has carried with her for years. It has mentally scarred her too.
Years later, when I asked her why she never told her father about this she simply said "I wanted to protect him".

There was another girl who told me her big brother would send off his friend to take her to school by auto. Her brother was so protective about her and would not let her take the public bus because of the crowd and men pushing themselves against women in the bus. So the auto was the safest transport to school.
What the brother didn't know was that his good friend who was the girl's escort in auto was actually sitting next to her and touching her inappropriately at times while auto driver was driving. Every ditch on the road that the driver crossed and the auto humped up and down, the boy took to his advantage and brushed his arms against her. He threatened her not to tell her brother about this or else she would face the consequences. Oh, and the faithful auto driver was his accomplice too.
She recalled to me how she would sit in her school classroom the whole day, unable to concentrate in class...just worrying about the dreaded journey in the auto after school. When it rained in school, she was literally terrified because it meant with rain, the auto driver would roll down the screens of the auto...and anything could happen inside!
I asked her why she never said anything to her brother about this and she said "I wanted to protect him" and not be a burden to him.
She felt uncomfortable to make him feel uncomfortable about girl's stuff.

When a man talks about such sensitive topics like menopause openly on a public platform, it shows he is ready to listen...whenever she is ready to talk.
Sometimes, that may be all that she needs from him.

Thank you for your brilliant posts, Satish.
Keep up the inspiring and great work. 😊

My two bits and a few paisa too

Actor Vijay's speech during the audio launch of his soon to be released " Sarkar " and his replies to the slightly naughty and unnecessary question about politics by actor Prasanna has raised a storm of debates and divisive politics among the public in Tamil nadu.

Answering to the question as to what he would do if he became the Chief minister,Vijay replied " If and i stress on the word if,if i become the chief minister of tamil nadu, then i will not behave like a chief minister."

A honest answer that sadly reflects the times we live in and also sheds light on the conduct of chief ministers and their cabinet and that notwithstanding also alludes to the way Govt employees work and also treat the public and also the amount of rampant corruption that exists in our country.

First and foremost is this singular fact that the govt,be it state or central exists to serve the needs of the citizens of this nation and starting from the prime minister to the chief ministers and all their cabinet included have been voted by the people and voted purely for the service of the people.

But,once they assume power and don the mantle of majority vote, they then do everything that is distasteful and brings disgust in the minds of the very public which voted them in.

The fundamental mistake they commit is thinking that the public are there to service their needs and fulfill their desire and lust for power and money.

When Mayawati came to power in Uttar Pradesh, she gave consent for thousands of statues of her highness and each costing nearly 5 crores to be erected in every village and hundreds were done and many were left halfway and now lie in ruin and those that were finished are potty places for crows who by their crap put it plainly across as to what they think of statues.

When,i did read this news about statues, honoring mayawati,my reaction and thoughts were " How bloody sad and how incredibly stupid can you be,lady?" and wondered " rather than spending 5 crores on bronze statues,if you only spent that money building better schools, old age homes, orphanages for humans and animals alike, then think of the praises that will follow you for a million births."

At this point,i have to share a thought from an aghori book, and that is " All things charitable done by humans and which are duly noted by other humans are not noted and acknowledged by the divine, higher power and that when one does a good deed, quietly and without any expectation, then that goes into his accounts and is credited to good karma."

Sorry, but i stand by that and in firm belief all though i doubt if i have any credits in God's secret Karma ledger.

Well,it is only now that i am going to start with my thoughts and also about what is necessary and unnecessary and is really the need of the hour.

First and foremost, protection of all water bodies and that to on a war footing. Then, the govt should immediately think of linking all national rivers, rather than wasting time linking " Aadhaar,PAN" to our IT accounts and soon, where each one of us has a mole or a birth mark.

For every form of life on this planet, the most important requirements, needs are Water and Food and everything else is secondary.

Forget the vanishing lakes, rivers, ponds all over the world and importantly in India for a moment and dwell and stress on the vanishing farmer and farming that puts food on the table.

My modelling career has me flying out to all capitals of south india and sometimes delhi although it is usually only once or twice a year. But,my two year stint in the Vijay tv serial Maharani took me to Trivandrum, twice every month and sometimes thrice.

Now,getting to the airport from home in the years between 2009 to 2012 meant, either fast track or a private car around my area and that was only done for fast track was far cheaper and that suited me just fine.

When the cab arrives,i get in and usually it is the back seat( safer and less impact if Lord Yama decides to hire the same cab) and the moment i get in,i flash a smile and introduce myself and ask the driver his name.

Yes Siree Bob,a polite hello and intro really goes a long way in saving your ham and bacon and ensures that it reaches the destination in time and all limbs attached to the torso and also a calm soul.

My words in order " Vanakkam,i am satish.Unga peru.No hurry,methuva ponga.Onnum avasaram ille."

The moment you say "No hurry, methuva ponga.Onnum avasaram ille," the driver never fails to smile, relax and sigh a reply " Sir,if only all my passengers were like you."

I smile and think of some of my close soulmates who are damn sure that i was born with a spewing and raging Volcano under my arse( which obviously is not a good thing to have under your bottom for it will leave you in pain, anger and violence, which is not very conducive to a normal life of a normal human).

Over the few years and in the backseat of the cab,i learnt that most of the drivers were from outside chennai and importantly most of them came from a background of farming and cultivation of some sort. And,invariably all of them said that they had to give up farming for the lands were being sold for constructions of gated communities, resorts, villas and apartment blocks.

Also, the scarcity of water and power were the main reasons that the drivers gave for turning their backs of lands, farming and their native soil.

But,middlemen, commission agents who purchsed their produce, say for 20 rs and the same which we buy for 50 rs or more in our chennai shop's.

The cab drivers said that, they spent 15 to 18 rs and the returns were just 2 rs per kg and that too on yearly or half yearly basis which did not make business sense to them or most surely will not to even an alien from another galaxy.

This has led to a situation wherein we buy rice and other products that come from another state and which adds to the price tag.

Now,off late, most of the cab drivers are Engineers,MBA'S,computer geeks and all of them say in unison ' Sir,i worked in a software company for three years and my pay was just 18,000 rs.But now i am making 25 to 30,000 rs by driving a cab."

W*F! You mean,a Ola or Uber driver makes more money than a graduate, engineer and financial whiz kid.OMG! what's going on here in this damned country.

Whether kamal, vijay, rajini, none of them ever speak about water, food and more importantly none of them speak about self respect and tamil pride.

For sadly today,Tamil pride is trying to dominate a small sized bull that has had " Chunnambu" rubbed in its arse ( imagine, coals shoved up your asshole) and imagine the pain and anger with which it runs out of the gates.

And even more sadly,10,20,30 or more brave youth will try to wrestle that calf with buds as horns and chunnambu in its rear and bring it to the ground and proclaim " Jallikattu" " Tamilanda.

Yes Siree Bob,you better believe my promise that i will return with more chunnambu and political sense and Politicians Nonsense.
