LOVE FOR ME IS….

The most important emotion. You laugh, you cry, you get excited. Similarly, you feel love. It can happen to you more than once as well. I've fallen in love with some of the characters that I'm paired opposite in my films like Thulasi (Adhu oru Kana Kalam) and Yamini (Mayakkam Enna).

LOVE, BREAKUP AND ZINDAGI

In this day and age, you are exposed to a lot of things. If you aren't happy in a relationship, there's no point in staying in one. It's painful to live a fake, unhappy life.

THE SUPERHIT FORMULA…

There are three things that make a relationship work. You've to respect each other for what you are; give each other space to maintain individuality and you have to trust the other person more than you trust yourself. Also, whatever happens within the four walls have to remain within them. You must never let a third person, even if it's your parents, to interfere.

MOST ROMANTIC VALENTINE'S DAY

Once, I took Aishwaryaa for a romantic dinner a day before Valentine's Day. When we returned home, I waited till she slept, and decorated our room with 15,000 red roses, which I'd flown in all over. I'd also placed gifts at different corners of our rooms, with notes that led to them. She was crying with joy when she woke up and saw what I had done for her. And the finale for the V-Day was that I took her to Phuket that evening.

CRAZY ABOUT SACHIN

James Cameron took 11 years after his Titanic to make Avatar because he knew comparison between the two was inevitable. I knew I should have waited a year at least after Kolaveri Di to make another single. But, good opportunities don't come twice. I went ahead and released the Sachin Anthem, because I wanted to show the love and respect I have towards the cricketing icon. None of us took money from the brand to come out with the album. We've received a mixed response for the single, but I told Anirudh and Anushka not to expect anything from this, and we made the song only because we all love Sachin. I don't even know if he has managed to see the anthem. If he has, then I'll say my life is made!

LOVE IS IN THE AIR

I've been composing music for the last 10 years, but I didn't learn to play the keys. So, it takes me a while before I can play the tune. Aishwaryaa is a patient listener, and even if the tune sucked, she would smile and say she liked it. But there was this one tune I composed, and I thought it was the best I'd ever come up with. But she shocked me by saying 'what crap stuff!' and walked out of the house. I was upset and went upstairs to vent out my anger on a game of snooker. She called me a while later and asked me to come downstairs. After a lot of cajoling (and threatening from her side), I met her near the gate. She gifted me a professional piano. I was tongue-tied and relaized she wanted to surprise me. It's been nine years since, and I'm still using the keys she gifted me.

FAMILY FUNDA

I come from a closely-knit family and that's taught me another dimension of love. My three siblings and I respect our parents. Selva has made me what I am today. He's my guru And I blindly do his films and even if it doesn't work, I don't care. It might sound odd, but the maximum amount of time I've spent with my father-in-law (Rajinikanth) was when he wasn't keeping well and I had put my work aside to be with him in Singapore. But I know he always wishes the best for us.

ANUSHKA, MY BEST BUDDY

Apart from Selva, I look up to Anushka for inspiration. She's a very positive person and nothing can upset her. She takes things in her stride. When I'm down and out, she will bring me out of the blues by sending me totally random messages. I somehow end up smiling. I wish I had at least half her wisdom and positive energy!

NOTHING FILMI ABOUT FRIENDS

I know the media thinks Simbu and I are rivals. But honestly, there's nothing like that. My relationship with him is very formal and diplomatic. I know him only as a costar and we acknowledge each other with a 'hi' when we meet in the public.

LOVE FOR CINEMA

Sometimes, I become the characters that I play onscreen. It took me months to get rid of Karthik (Mayakkam Enna) from my mind. I was snapping at my friends and family, and was being rude to everyone I met. I don't realize what I do, but I guess it happens because I'm passionate about cinema. I had rejected 10 offers from Bollywood earlier, but I agreed to do Raanjhnaa only because I knew the character was tailor-made for me. I thought that if I was really a good actor, I shouldn't let go of that film.
