I'm not as patient as Ishaan: Jay
Deepali Dhingra, TNN, Sep 2, 2010, 12.00am ISTTo see Jay Soni enacting the role of Ishaan in Sasural Genda Phool, one wouldn't imagine that the actor was most unwilling to try out for the role.
"I was reluctant to audition for the role. I didn't think there was any point in giving it as I didn't think I suited the part," reveals Jay. But he did give the audition and the rest as they say, is history. Jay, who's acted in Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan and in films like Buddha Mar Gaya, has received maximum adulation for his role of Ishaan.
But initially before taking up the role, wasn't he apprehensive that he would be overshadowed by Ragini's character? "Not at all," he says, "Even though I do know that television caters mainly to women, I've got so much recognition from this one show alone. There are times people have liked my work more." So how much like his character is he in real life? "I'm a lot like him. I'm emotional, I love my family but the only difference is, I can't wear formal pants like Ishaan all the time!" he laughs, "Also, I don't have as much patience as he has." But ask him if he has received proposals from girls and he shyly admits, "Yes, I do receive them but they are mostly from their mothers and given in an indirect manner."
