Her character is making this wanton blackmailing attempt as a "scare tactic" but realizes at the last moment that she's actually going to burn alive and that makes her scream for help. He did convey the right thing to her, in a convoluted kind of way! But what was this he said : after he says " falling in love was not in her control, so she mustn't blame herself for it" , he also says, if you make him angry, then it is your fault, or something to that effect.

This action of Kusums will make Saras very angry!, especially if Kumud is hurt in the process!
