P.S. There was another show that airs on a different channel where the male lead slaps the female lead. And the female lead doesn't even question him, nor did he apologise. This show is VERY popular in India and does not air in the UK. Now is it right for me to say that viewers in India enjoy watching men physically assault women?

It is a fictional show which has taken its story from a novel, so its pretty obvious that the serial will follow the novel. And I'm pretty sure the show is not being dictated by the viewing figures in the UK, afterall it is a hindi serial and I'd think that the ratings in India are of far more importance to the makers of the show as opposed to the ratings in the UK. To be honest with you, most of the hindi serials tend to portray the female as passive and weak, most of these shows are very popular in India. Such shows are not a reflection of what UK citizens like to watch rather they are a reflection of india's ideology of the position of a woman in a regressive society.

not just in uk we women in India also do not like to see women being manhandled or abused.

let me share my view.

Many women in india across all strata are facing such abuse. Even today in many traditional families women who want to walk out of their marriage are not given any support to do so.

Theycontinue their existance suffering with no end at all.

When the heroine accepts abuse and portrays it as her courage and not as her majboori it gives validation and strength to those other sisters who are in similar situations.

They feel they too are doing somethjng brave and noble by not walking out.

while I feel that is true and their strength is amazing, many of them would want to opt out if they got support.

so, if the channel showed a heroine who put her foot down stood up for herself, and refused to accept abuse, some women may be inspired to change their lives also.

While this might rub the people with conventional mind set the wrong way, it might show women who are suffering that walking out is also a viable option.
