Disappointed and frustated.. that's how I felt watching the episode today..though we all knew this was coming.. Its like you tutor a child, give him everything..all the knowledge you have, work hard on his weaknesses, bring out his strengths, dedicate all your time and attention so he gets the best grades, only to realise that on the day of the examination he panicked and decided to skip the exam.. :(

There is no point trying to find any reason or logic in what he did today, because there isn't any and there wasn't supposed to be any as per the novel. Saraswatichandra in his moment of weakness and vulnerability and extremely traumatized state of mind, took a wrong step..chapter close! This is the second time he took an impulsive decision but life is not always generous.. last time his act of haste in writing the infamous letter led him to Kumud , this time it will take her away from him.. perhaps forever!

When he told Sunny that he wasn't aware where he was and what he was doing, I was hoping Sunny won't give him the phone to talk to Kumud.. he didn't look in the right state- mentally or physically.. Can't blame Sunny.. he must have thought talking to Kumud will make him feel better..also calm down an anxious Kumud.. But it was pre-destined.. this is how it had to play out..

He mumbled on the phone.. shivered..as if unsure of what he was doing.. Did he actually make the call to call off the wedding? maybe ..maybe not.. With the kind of mental state he was in, it doesn't seem a man can plan anything.. The poor bride to-be, getting to hear his voice, for the first time in past 2 -3 days, was brimming with thrill and excitement for the upcoming marriage ceremony.. She drew a vivid picture of herself as his bride, looking pretty as a picture in her ''shadi ka joda'', henna on her hands, complete with the glow of haldi on her face.. but neither that, nor her enthusiasm or elation could pull him back.. if anything it pushed him further away from her and all the prospective associated happiness which now he's scared of...The more she pulled him, the more he regressed back.. almost like an involuntary reflex action of which he had no control... and eventually he did what we feared the most.. shut himself close.. again in that deep dark dungeon where no light of hope or happiness can impregnate.. not even her wails.. they were falling on deaf ears..

I can almost imagine the sinking feeling that Kumud must have felt at the pit of her stomach.. and why she said her heart was throbbing uncontrollably.. she gave it everything.. all she had..mind, body and soul and is now left empty handed for no fault of hers... her love, her tears not even her anger could shake him back to his senses and make him hear what he was saying.. left stranded midway, with empty hopes and promises, stripped of everything, she has indeed been betrayed brutally by fate..

I know the debate will start when Kumud agrees to marry Pramad in the same mandap , on the same day.. who betrayed who? some will say Saras betrayed her by rejecting her yet again after all the kasme vaade, heavy duty dialogues, ek doosre ka saath and what not.. and many will say Kumud betrayed Saras ( as is the trend of our forum ) by not waiting for him, or not trying to find out how and why..

I feel, in both cases, its the inherent impulsive nature that drives their actions.. First it was Saras and now it will be Kumud.. In a way I am glad, they kept the consistency in the characters...Love can evolve a person but not change his or her basic nature.. Kumud helped Saras overcome his weakness, but couldn't alleviate it completely..Isolation brought back the weakness in him..inability to cope with trauma.. Coming to Kumud.. she loves him with all her heart..but she also loves her father. her family and herself.. ( exact words said by Sunny at some point).. they are her weakness.. her pride and self respect bordering on ego is her weakness.. she will not take any offence on any of that from anyone, not even Saras.. Glad they kept that significant aspect of the character intact .. hope it stays even after her marriage to Pramadhan..

This whole event, seems like a chain reaction which will be followed by a collateral damage.. Saras acts on impulse, triggers her to act in haste.. both not thinking of the repercussions.. or long term consequences of their actions.. which will lead to a collateral damage all around them.. can they fix it together? we'l see...

This is what I posted in ur response to crisp bytes.
There are 2 sides to Saras's reaction and only 2 aspects to Kumud's.
Saras was unreasonable and irresponsible today. But, the despair is true. He is in huge identity crisis that's bigger than before. Marriage is not on the top of the list at this moment when he is going through this. But, he cannot brush aside Kumud's love and move it to back-burner and say he was wrong in accepting. People do falter in times of despair. Their thinking and decision making is shrouded by the same despair.
The way out is either go alone and marry Kumud which is not easy. There will be 100 questions raised from Desais. The other, is to plead with VC, tell him what happened, postpone the wedding. Atleast he did not make an effort to talk to VC. That was too irresponsible. I would have been more sympathetic if he did that. Directly told her. And the way he said her to forgive if possible - just not done.
He is consumed by the crisis, but failed to think about Kumud's situation. For me that was rude. But, if anyone puts himself in his shoes, there is a crushing feeling inside him. He is back to questioning himself on how he got into this love in the first place.
For her there are 2 issues. First is the heartbreak of her wedding being called off. Her love being not reciprocated.
Second and in my POV the bigger one is the social stigma. I feel, heartbreak can be dealt with to an extent if the people around u are supportive and time can help too. Like a chronic ailment. But, the immediate social stigma that is caused to herself and more importantly to her father and rest of family is huge. Like an acute ailment. Can't be dealt with easily but needs immediate redressal. That social stigma is what made her shout that he cannot insult her parents. And the same stigma makes her agree to the other proposal.
Like we discussed, the stakes here are much higher than in novel or movie. This is a day or two before wedding we are talking about unlike in the earlier versions.

well what shall i say...i am dumstruck

but then two proud and self esteemed people in love ...one an emotionally distraught and impulsive and another equally his counterpart...

and when such people fall for each other truely and madly in love...they give everything and take nothing

a relationship survives when at least one adjusts but here both r tees maar khaan ...such love stories never have happy endings but then r always so alluring ...thay have .the pain of .the separation and bliss of union ...i am hating myself for loving it

@pasumarthisa- Thanks for the wonderful insight.. I am not doubting Saras' despair.. Infact I feel, his despair is doubled this time.. its a father's loss and betrayal coupled with his mother's tragic married life which he wasn't aware of.. I don't know what reason he had assumed to be responsible for his mother's death..but he had not expected this to be the reason.. he lost his father again..and the reason is excruciatingly painful.. he never loved his mother which is hard to accept..and calling Saras handicapped, escapist and living off his father's name and fortune was grossly unfair.. I can understand that.. Identity crisis? I don't know.. as a son without parents and family..maybe? but as an individual?! why? Thats a sign of weakness if he thinks he can not make it on his own after having a degree from Harvard..so I will assume he meant the former.. But again the statement that VC gave his daughter to SC Vyas and not SC is totally out of place.. When he made the public proposal , he had specifically mentioned that he is asking Kumud's hand for marriage as SC and not as son of his friend LN.. and VC had agreed to that proposal..so why would he question his credibility now? He had no logic to back his statements and hence had no answers to Kumud's legit hard hitting questions..

Agree with your points about Kumud's .. though I think, for her its a personal betrayal followed by the humiliation caused to her father and her family..that is hurting her the most and rightly so..

One old query; How does Radha- Krishna apply in here? Which Krishna repeatedly condemns a Radha to a pit of sorrow? What bliss that Radha would get out of a wilfully trampled devotion?
Ram- Sita may fit better- Ram had also condemned her twice. But then, even Ram had not wilfully chucked her to a Ravan, or for himself found another Sita!🤢

Yes, he didnt have answers to her questions because he is in despair and is not thinking right. Had he thought of her situation, then he must have got answers. Its not too hard to think of other person's misery(that he is causing) since he is so humane. That is where he failed. By not putting himself in Kumud's shoes even for a moment. Shaadi ka joda utaar do - that's not so easily said.
Weakness - yes he has his weaknesses. But, his life is way too harsh and unusual. He atleast took the 1st step of disowning his step-mom and dad.

Krishna had still left her though right? He had to perform his duties so he left the longing Radha.

Vaish, brilliant post. It's one of those moments where you know what the character is going through yet we just cannot agree with his or her actions. Must be a good thing right? They're flawed characters. Saras has, like you said caused a chain reaction...his one moment of weakness will unfold events one after the other. Very excited to see how it all churns out! There was a reason why there was a constant emphasis on Kumud's eccentric pride in herself and family. If its hurt then she will hurt that person. I want to see how and why Kumud decides to go ahead with the marriage to Pramad. What will her frame of mind be? I don't want to see a wholly depressed one. That tez talwaar Kumud has been missing for a while!
