To me, whatever the discussion about the weaknesses of Saras etc. the bottom line is, how is the series going to continue long term if there's a weak lead and how long can this go on? I do admire the fact that building up the Saras character (played brilliantly by Gautum) making everybody like him to all of a sudden making everybody dislike him is good acting and well written but this will not make the series maintain its viewership or attract new viewers.
In fact if this track continues and by following the book and Kumud marries Pramad, I guarantee that the series will not last more than 3-4 months cuz this rona dhona combined with an apparent weak lead male character that no one respects, there's no future in this. Both female& male viewers want a male character that although flawed is still strong and commands respect, not a wimpy guy that falls apart whenever life throws something difficult in his path. Struggles are ok, sad moments are ok but at the end of the day, he has to pull out of this weak spiral.
Whats the future for Kumud? Are we going to spend the rest of the series seeing her married to somebody else, unhappy for what she lost? Wow, that will surely make everybody want to watch for months on end. The book is intense because its a love story combined with a tragedy, that's great but how can you prolong a tragedy for months and months on TV?
I like series that go up and down, make you like and dislike the characters, have them grow and adapt to life's issues but at the end of the day, every series needs a lead that commands respect.
"Warriors" are admirable because although they suffer defeat occasionally, they rise to the top and win the ultimate battle, the important battle. In Saras's case, for him to "win" he needs to get Kumud back and prevent this wedding. If this track is to succeed, don't marry Kumud right now, draw out this engagement period, let Saras battle his demons, show the anguish that both characters and families are feeling and then have him conquer his fears and win Kumud at the end.
In the meantime, show Kumud's strength of character and love that lets her see beyond this weak Saras, show her unshakeable faith in her love no matter how tough it is right now, now that would be admirable, to still maintain that he is the one albeit right now, he isn't.
I believe the series is at a crucial point right now, they can either make this a success or a failure in the next little bit. Its a precarious position because once a series loses its appeal or viewers, its a very quick downward spiral. Gaining popularity is hard, losing popularity is easy.
