I believe his show has his own flavor and freshness. The backdrop of the story is based on the classic novel but you can't exactly show a story which was written in early 1800's, I guess not just us but even our parents will not able to relate to it. That's reason why it has been changed as per the todays audience.
And people of all age groups are liking it. I don't think calling it "commercial" would be the right word. I think it is way different than what other TV shows has been showing until now.
And of course last but not least , the actors are doing justice to their roles and therefore the show.

To add on, if you had seen Chanakya serial by Dr Chandra Parakash dwivedi, it was in nineties, it was a path breaking serial, that it converted the costume drama period serials in to realistic ( Hollywood roman era ) type serials. I was expecting something of that level, that path breaking from the legend called Sanjay leela bhansali, so this for me is an average serial from the maker ( though it is far far above from what we see on TV).

u r rght...i just hope that they just dont follow the latest masala trend...end up being compared.(.like yeh isiki copy wala serial hai...)

i wish ki yeh show come with a better n good episodes day by day.. .something refreshing n new...with less of negativity( gumman n her antics).

I would also like to add to this lovely conversation that the show also caters to today's society. The novel is historic, but the only things historic that are appealing to younger audiences are Mahabharta and such. It has to cater to today's time to really bring effect of its real potential!

I agree, that such scenes are never seen before type, but you know what, when a master like Sanjay leela bhansali does a thing the expectations are higher, even better than this.

Trust you could get what I wanted to convey! Thanks for the reply though, being a newcomer, responses inspire.

For all those, who do not know Dr Chandra Prakash dwivedi, since Chanakya serial I am talking about may not be known to many non Indian residing forum members, he has also directed movie Pinjar based on partition and with Urmila l matondkar, priyanshu chaterjee and manoj Bajpayee in lead. His upcoming movie is again a realistic one mohalla Assi with sunny Deol.

Mandy, even I am loving the show! But am sure you will understand what does it mean if its associated with name of SLB. Yeh dil maange more!

Veers, first of all thanks for the comment. Making something appealing can go hand in hand with making it a classic, since the name attached is of SLB. The serial offered new lavish sets, different clothings, realistic scenes, but its far from hard hitting. TRP are showing it. Today we live in an era of information, but ultimately what runs is word of mouth. Only mushy mushy stories don't make a work a master piece. Popularity of love scenes cannot be taken as a work of art. Work of art in itself stands apart. My concern is that this serial may fall prey to commercially successful formulas!
