I think the following quote aptly tells about the situation between Saras and Kumud
"Before you start to judge me step into my shoe and walk the life i am living and if you get as far as me maybe you will just realize how strong i am"
I am not sure what exactly Saras wrote in the mail rejecting Kumud but i think she must not take it so personally. It happens in life that we like someone and they reject us for many reasons that they may not be able to reveal to us.
Kumud has no idea about what circumstances Saras has been living. When you have strong family ties you may not be able to understand the pain a person who does not have a great family goes through. Like Vidya Chatur said Kumud is just seeing the outside rejection letter Saras wrote her but not the pain he has undergone which made him reject marriage. Saras was not really rejecting her he was rejecting the concept of marriage and family.
With a indifferent and non loving father, a scheming step mom and God only knows what sort of step brother Saras has made a different image of marriage and family in his mind and heart. These are deep wounds which cannot be cleansed in a few days/weeks or years. Still after all this pain and bad family life he has not turned rebel or into drugs, brattish, egoist etc. That shows his nature.
Kumud assumes that because she may be from village and not modern he rejected her and hence is angry. But that is not the case his rejecting her has nothing to do with her and more to do with his own family and experiences.
Once Saras stays with VidyaChatur's family and gets love from them(though Dukh Baa hates him may be because of way his mom was treated by his father) he will start understanding what is family and love that concept and accept to marry Kumud.
The fact that he feels guilty and comes to say sorry to kumud and speak to vidya chaturji means he is a good human being. So just give him sometime. The tough and silent exterior he shows is just a shield to hide his pain in life. He is a good person inside although he may act rude/attitude outside with Kumud.
