It is so interesting to know how a single vrath is interpreted or done in different ways..thanks for the information

I dont know about all parts of India but in Bengal traditionally Ekadashi Vrath is performed mainly by widows or sons performing it after their parents death (normally for a year but they can continue with it) or by a new Brahmin after the sacred thread ceremony...if any married woman(suhagan) wants to do it they will have to do it along with their husband (only cze of its association with widows..rather it is said that husband and wife doing it together makes the vrath more fruitful...however unmarried girls can do it as well...

There was a point when this vrath used to be so strictly maintained that widows dying on Ekadashi were not even allowed to have Ganges water on their death bed as they were meant to be fasting..social reformers like Ram Mohan Roy, Vidyasagar strongly protested against such torture and tried to bring about changes. With time definitely the severity has relaxed but unfortunately even today some Bengali families follow it very strictly and enforce the widows to do it...

Thanks for sharing information on Bengali tradition. India is a very vast country so our ways of observing festivals & vrath also varies. In our culture also widows are treated very badly. They r supposed to eat food one time through out their life. But I am glad that our society is changing & widows are not made to follow all this rituals very rigidly. Regarding ekadashi vrath, whoever follows will have one spoon of thirtha water & will not have anything till next day morning. But some people will relax the rules & will have fruits & milk.
sorry Mentyji for turning your light hearted topic into a serious ritual discussion

My darling Chotti🤗
am afraid i cannot contribute anything useful to your post Hardly bother to watch the show but damn have missed you and your posts and so glad you are here and all i can say is sob sob no not the usual ending but just sob of happiness to see you SJ here
I get by on bytes from fellow members and yep dont feel sufficiently motivated to say anthing FLG is in hibernation mode FLS is here FLH finds nothing exciting after the torso dip in a stagnant backwater pool south of probably Rajasthan but labelled dubai and with the kind observation Tangy made over that dip all my fantasies got dashed and FLW is rejoicing because there is not fighting ranting and general hell raising by the other avatars so yep life is boring
but have missed you😳
