I know many may bash me - but I find this whole karwa chauth thing very regressive - fasting for your husbands long life ... when does a husband ever do that.!!!
And worse still serials show that if a woman doesnt believe in keeping it she is NOT sanskari ... hello this is 2012 !!! And Gunjan keeping it irked me even more ... cause she is supposed to be a modern day girl - who uses her brains ... what ever happened to her intelligence???😔 and independence ???

There is nothing wrong in following traditions.
Modern does not mean to contradict or oppose what your elders believe .
She is independent and when she felt like fasting she did no one forced her.

I am against doing all these rituals before marriage for your fiancee or boyfriend coz there is no guarantee you will end up gettin Married to him leading to lot of heartbreak later. Wait till you are married then fast to your heart s content. Or atleast if you fast before marriage dont let him break your fast. I dont think its regressive at all, it really romantic šŸ˜‰ coz 80% your husband fasts with you.

I'm more like Gunjan - a modern day girl, so I'm not used to all these customs and traditions. So, I find this custom really romantic and beautiful... shows how much a couple really loves each other

Nothing wrong in showing this. If girls have gone modern so too have the guys (being a guy I shud defend them 😃).

Most of the guys nowadays do keep fasts if their wives are fasting.

The thing that I don't approve of is forcing a fiance/betrothed to keep fasts. Fasts only after marriage not before

Anishetty01: what's the problem. I thought in this modern day and age, one can do as one feels like. So if a girl wants to follow tradition, so what. it is not a regression!! Fasting is not bad you know, it is a kind a detoxing :) you should try it some time.
That remark about why people think that if a girl does not follow tradition is not sanskari - well it is true for the opposite as well. Why do people think that when a modern girl who follows tradition (of her own accord happily) is regressing.
I agree certain traditions may not be good - i can't think of any at this point except genital mutilation or similar traditions which are equally harsh to a person (male or female) - i agree these kind of traditions should not be practised because it harms a person.

Festivals such as karva chauth and symbols such as mangalsutra and sindoor are subtle signs of male domination in society and its disgusting.

At one point, even sati was considered a tradition but it was inhuman and therefore faded away... same should happen to KV and stuff...😔

And though some husbands do it its mainly the women who are expected to do it and some are even forced😔😔 Touching your husbands feet is even worse😔

These are nothing more than superstitions and means of male chauvinism in society😔
