The shelf life of a TV serial today has reduced drastically and shows don't even last six months anymore! Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna, Kismat, Aarakshan, Gunahon Ka Devta, Mera Naam Karegi Roshan, Sanjog Se Bani Sangini, Pyar Mein Twist, Geeta Ka Dharamyudh, Maati Ki Banno and Baat Hamari Pakki Hai, all shut shop within a few months owing to poor Television Rating Points (TRPs).
THE REAL PROBLEM
One of the problems is the herd mentality. When one show clicks, everyone tries to make shows along the same lines. Says Saurabh Tewary, programming head (fiction) of a TV channel, "Everyone starts following a successful format till it is totally killed! In the TV industry, room for experimentation and innovation is very less." It's also the TV viewing patterns that have changed, says producer-actor JD Majethia. "Viewers are no longer as loyal as they used to be. They sample a new show, but quickly turn away if they don't find it appealing. Also, people today watch two shows at the same time." Broadcasters, unlike earlier, now have many shows in the pipeline. "If a serial doesn't yield a good response, they axe it as have other options ready," says Majethia.
OLD SHOWS RULE
With new shows not taking off, old ones like Balika Vadhu, Pavitra Rishta, Uttaran, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Saathiya, Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli and Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah — continue to dominate the TRP charts. Take the case of Balika Vadhu. After being the number one show two years ago, its ratings fell. But now that the plot has taken a twist, it's back with a bang. Says producer Sunjoy Waddhwa, "Strong characterisation is what has worked for old shows. In Balika Vadhu too the characters have been etched out well. Most importantly, it's been accepted by the audience. Over a period of time, a serial can go through a lull but it can bounce back because of this reason."
Says producer Rupali Guha, "With an increase in non-fiction reality shows and cricket, news and regional programming leading to audience fragmentation, creating a successful social drama has become a challenge for channels and producers. Meanwhile, older, successful shows are safe bets for an audience that feels comfortable watching familiar faces and following their stories."

The bolded part interested me.. the REAL PROBLEM part is defiantly True in many cases, but if the show misguides from what it took off with defiantly I would back off watching it.. or the focal point is deviated from what the story was promoted as and switch back to something old being loyal or watch another new one till it is convincing with real and reel aspects !
In case of Bidaaii It did extremely well with the risk of the leap. the large audience appreciated the track and focus still remained the daughter father relationship , Babul Kay angan... sisters track.. It also give a border idea of how one can deal with tragedies and see new horizons taking into consideration Ragini who is treated as a daughter of the house in Rajvansh parivaar and her new life with someone who did everything possible to bring a smile to her face..
Even for Alkeh it was a different phase in life where he was trying to move on with Saakshi and see a new companion.
Personally I felt it fell short of closer and when a show is doing well on the charts axing it is not a sensible thing. It has its repercussions, and quite visible.
Shows which have done more number of episodes are still running e.g. Balika Vadu and Colors may carry on that show for another year and half and give new changes leaps if needed to go with the consistency flow etc..
Similar case with Saathiya or YRKKH or Zee's flag ship at this moment PR.., and Rajshree produced YMGGK..
The way the viewers watch shows or the way they are calculating success sometimes they themselves do not understand... And they axe shows which are doing well...
I hope someday Starplus will bring back Bidaaii from where it left of as it was a more like season two sequel or even a continuation of a beautiful journey of Bidaaii Sapna Babul ka...
This is my analysis and my POV no offense to any show or anyone who watches other shows.. I am seeing this only with the reason to understand and analyze why Bidaaii was axed when other shows are still going strong with the good potential storyline and viewer appreciation !
