Fauji(SRK), Circus, Nukkad, Sailaab, Trishna, Hasratein ......... and not to forget the master BBB... These serials were a class apart and will always be remembered for the quality and not the quantity.... I guess we cannot till date forget the chemistry between SRK and his elder lady coach in Fauji nor can we forget the beautiful pairing of Teacherji and Guru in Nukkad nor Renuka 's fantastic mature expressions in Sailaab. Hasratein was in totality Seema Kapoor's show.... BBB kept us mesmerising with their lovely morals and display of diff. characters in a joint family .... I mean the era of Saas -Bahu is getting dragged..... We need a serial which can bring a totally new package for its success....now.

Laxmi, you read my mind..I was to write about Fauji in a different context...Nukkad , circus, they were so good...These shows were all over after a stipulated time...
also, these serials never took away freshness from their cast and crew..I still remember the time SRK saw his senior lady love Madhu, when she jumped from the parachute and fell on SRK...the very fact that we are remmebering them after decades prove how successful they are

I followed two Pakistani dramas (malaal and meri zaat zarra e benishaan.. oh and i watched mann o salwa!), they only had around 20 episodes, they were sooo realistic, and to the point which makes them more interesting. After watching em you can saay 'yes there is a storyline', wish we had more dramas like that.. but then again maybe we do an I dont happen to know as I have only followed Bidaai and have stopped taking interest in Raja ki Ayegi Baraat (pathetic tracks which have no relevance to the plot and unrealistic). Used to watch santaan (i enjoyed) and Kayamth (forget Kayamath man, just dragged!) Of all i think bidaai and pratigya have been interesting (although they do sometimes drag, with just one scene in a full episode) but story lines are realistic.

Pratigya is good as it is not that old, but Bidaai is down grading for sure...the way they solved Malti character, is just too much to believe...somethings unsolved only remain good..a person's basic character never changes...people like Malti never change in real life

Well its annoying the serials if they drag too long. But I blame the dumb audience why on earth do they want to watch people coming back from dead, marriage issues etc.
I meandont they have enough problems at home? that they want to emotionally torture themselves even more

sheesh!

I blame the viewers I mean if WE dont watch they wont give us c#@p to watch in the first place

TRPS are all fake Suchitra.
I think the channels should be wise enough not to give extensions beyond a certain point, that is when the original concept is on the verge of getting lost...

actually yeh roshta is again concentrating on the concept of "elder girl falling for a younger one"...what was shown in Fauji also, but it was not the main idea.
actually serials like Fauji were hit, because they had a proper story line with glimpses of light romantic moments...actually in Alekh Sdahna love story, that glimpse of romance was more visible..

I also agree that serials should not be pulled, streched, twisted and untwisted until their is no life in them. However, the other truth is that viewers will never be happy. If they end the serial after a good story, we the viewers will feel that is to early. And if they continue the story and drag, we will get tired and want it ended. The truth is the track, if there is a good track in the serial we don't ever want it to end and if its a boring track in the story then we all just want them to stop and show us something different. That balance is really hard to keep. I don't think we should say its the down fall of Ekta Kappor, because she still has many popular TV serials right now. Yes, she did drag it to a never ending deal, but that was also because there was a very HUGE FAN follow. KSBKBT was so popular it was even mentioned in K3G. When you have a show like that, its hard to judge in my opinion when do we end the serial. Teen Bahuraniyan was also ended very early, I was really mad, the concept was really sweet and the story was nice also. But it just ended leaving many viewers unhappy. But others who found in boring might have felt finally! Its totally up the viewers on what they want to see. A lot people are very loyal viewers and are attached to certain serials and hope that they never go off air. While many like to watch more dramatic and different shorter stories. Its all about preference. And as a producer/director, all you can base that judgement on is TRPs. If Bidaai was to end right now, we would be left speechless, however is there any story left in the serial? Up to now the main objective was Alekh getting normal and SaAlekh coming together, that is done. Now its Vasu time to change, but when she does and they are once happy family then what? They will bring in another character Anand, and start a twisted story on him and his past. After that is over then what? Maybe CB comes back or Malika was revenge or their sister comes back who knows, but is that a part of the original concept of the serial? No. No serial stays close to the original concept of the serial. So basically each serial is draged. I personally just think, that we viewers have the power to watch and not watch what we like. If the serial starts loosing its flavor and becomes tasteless, well time to move on and watch something else. The serial will loose its TRPs and end on its own. Its a money making business, so they will keep pushing it till they can. I don't mind a long streched serial as long as its still some what quality work. Once they start think we are fools and watch anything. Well I just stop watching it. hopefully they get the idea.

I agree with mostly all the posts here. I honestly thing that serials should have a time limit, or atleast be made with a time limit. Most brought of the example of Ekta Kapoor and i agree to an extent. Me being the person that still happens to like those shows like KSBKBT and KZK, i could say why people still watch those type of shows. Even if the show is dragging it does have its loyal viewers. Even if the show currently has no story people will still watch it because their addicted. I basically watched all of those long dragging soaps. Why? Because i was hooked on. Most of them i watched from the first episode and from then it was right of my daily schedule. Like Bidaai is for me now. When i dont Bidaai one day i feel like i forgot to eat😆 And at the end of it, besides the initial days, i end up watching shows not for the story but for my fave actors, characters, jodis, etc. Like now, me and a lot of people arent liking the current Bidaai track. But we are watching it right. Why--for our foursome, RagVir, Salekh. At the end of the day, its all about the money and as long as the show brings in money why end it. If it was really totally about quality shows wouldnt drag. I think serials are like flowers, in the initial days they bloom but then comes a time when it dries up. Every thing in the world has to go through that phase. Wow that was a weird example😆

i wont say the are addicted..even if they are addicted there will be some saturation point where every one will go mad n stop watching when the show is senseless, unbleievable n stupid....wat they are showing will be just an accident, plastic surgery, death n come back, infinte number of affairs n misunderstandings, marriage series, divorces, marrgs and affairs at the age of 50-60......how long will audience tolertate such bakwass???????????? n the paradoz thing is that such soaps'hero/heroine will be giving lenghty BHASHANS on the culture of their family....humhara sanskar yeh hain woh hain..humhara parampara yeh he woh hain.....let me askk..which family has the sanskar of marrying innumerable times???????????????????????????the same fellow who gives bhashan will be marrying a hundred times and side by have a lot of affairs too.....so this is the "sanskar"they are talking abt.....how many yrs will the people tolerate such stupidityyy????????????? fiction stories are still more beleivable.....but this is really nottt!!!!!!!!!!!!! marriage naam ke cheez ko maazka banakar rekha hain yeh soaps.......in the begng it will be shown a beautiful luv story of hero-heroine....n says they they are adhoora without each other n will give jaan for each other.....but after a month starts the affairs n marrg sequels...but our laila majnu never ever gets married....this is the main thread of all such soaps (no exceptions all are the same)TV soaps(K soaps)wer a hell at a time..n there was no way to open the tv.....all the time such rubbish wer there..thank god to the court n the channel who decided to stop them........
