I feel shows start showing all illogical and crappy things once a certain time limit is over, they have nothing left to show about the original concept. They lose track of the actual idea and start following some stuff which were not even in the initial agenda.

if a show runs too long, there are also other problems..like the lead actors get changed, then sometimes many characters get sidelined, as they tend to take up more work for them. The creatives change...thus the very way a story was presented from the beginning gets changed. Most important I feel, the actors lose their freshness and thus when they plunge into films, they look very familiar and next door faces. There is no enigma left in them...

I am in favour of shows, which used to run before, for 26 episodes or 52 episodes, where they tell a story and complete it like Kora Kagaz. Or, I like shows like CID, Baa Bahu aur baby, which deals with everyday problems and try to bring out a solution and in a way, the same characters are there, but everyday a fresh story awaits us,,,,

I think you had written this comment about tv shows running beyond a certain time in another thread 😆...
Yes ur right, even I used to like programes which had a specified time period like 30 episodes, 50 episodes, etc., as that increases the quality of content that they show us. They dont simply show things to drag the story, but they know precisely what the story is and what is important to be shown. Not only that, they might even cut down on the length of unnecessary scenes and dialogues, to incorporate just whats necessary.
Seriels like BBB are different, they keep the entire base same and introduce different stories relating to different characters in the family, so that everyone are given equal importance. Thats also fine.
And the best example for ur topic title would be Ekta Kapoor seriels like KSBKBT, KZK, etc, which were dragged and streached to such an unbearable extent that the audiences themselves revolted to STOP these seriels 😆 . What a shame it is to the creators of a seriel which was once upon a time no. 1, to end in such a way. The end of 3 of Ekta Kapoor's main seriels mainly KSBKBT, KZK, KGGK, marked the end of her pride and convinced her that 'audiences r not fools' to take any crap she shows, just bcos they kept seeing it doesnt mean any rubbish is churned out for them. She took audience for granted and believed that 'show them rubbish and they will digest it', but the audiences eventually proved her wrong and like how everyone predicted, that marked the downfall of the No. 1 tv producer EKTA KAPOOR.
Yesterday it was Ekta Kapoor, today it is RAJAN SHAHI - No. 1 on Tv. I just hope RS learns from Ekta Kapoor's mistakes and doesnt commit the same mistake as her.

Rajan Shahi is lucky to learn fromEkta's experiences..ekta was the one who gave TV industry its popular status with thise three serials...and the end was so drastic...
its like the career of many cricketers or heroines...many renowed cricketers if they do not retire during their good form, just get kicked out....
Heroines also, if they do not retire at the right time, they play the mother of the actors, with whom once they were paired as romantic leads...

Agree! But the makers are so attached to those serials they just want to drag them on.After all that's what made them popular and we viewers get so attached too!

I don't mind if they remember their own dialogues and scenes instead of showing an entirely different things just to move the story forward!

but most of the times that do not happen..I was surprised and shocked at the fate of those three K serials...they ruled TV...and its not that another refreshing one was found to substitute, rather their own weaknesses became so huge, that loyal viewers also sacrificed them...its a tragedy...EKta Kappor spoiled her well-earned name
and got a bad reputation

Very true! Even Ekta Kapoor had started off with quality seriels like Koshish, Ghar Ek Mandir, Mano Ya Na Mano (1st season), Koi Apna Sa etc. I used to really love them and used to really look forward to them. There was no much saas-bahu dramas at that time. Even when she had started off with KSBKBT, KGGK, initial couple of years it was ok. People never changed their characters, everyone had a certain character, and evil things were also quite relatable. Then came the unbelievable, all decked up vamps with fashionable sarees, bindis etc, plastic surgery, people returning from the dead, etc! She never gave proper believable explanations to any of these, taking audiences common sense for granted.

She should have changed with time. If you notice, stories and tracks in all her seriels were recycled and used again and again by other seriels of hers. Her strategy was - just keep the concept of the seriel different, characters different, but make every track the same eventually, and audiences are fools and will not realise. Its like selling the same old product in a new package. I still remember her saying in some interview that masses like all this that's y we will keep showing them this, she took it for granted 'masses are fools', and today the realitiy is out there in front of her. After running for a decade, finally she is out, just cos of her pride and attitude towards audiences (that she knows exactly what audiences want).

The fact is that no one can rule a market till eternity. Competition will always be there to push u down at some point in time. Especially in this industry nothing is permanent. So it is very important to be dynamic and change with time, and changing taste of audiences.

thats the concept...you haveto be dynamic and the day team starts playing with their initial character sketches, they are going to flop...
there are many shows now with fresh concepts and I am pretty sure those will rule within no time...
everything should end with a proper message and note...not wait to be kicked out...

I remember KYUNKI... was phenomenal in glueing audience, and looka t its fate...could anyone think in 2003-2004 that after couple of years kyunki will be just asked to shut down because of the crap it is showing...

Great topic. I agree with you, TV serials have a certain shelf life. They should be cast away after that shelf life is over. Typically, most soap operas maintain their freshness for about 6 months to a year after that they start dragging and pulling in all directions.

Lets take Bidaai for instance, it should not have taken 2.5 years to get Saalekh one measely SR and then its back to bekar ka masala.

This is what they say, Chaar Aaney ki Murgi, Barah Aaney ka masala.

Exactly. Apart from deviating from original story, other problems w.r.t actors, cts etc. come up. They should end the story beautifully so that it remains forever in the minds of viewers.
Episodes like CID, Baa... etc. are diff as they have new story to tell each time.
