This is indeed the story of two sisters, and the sharp contrast between them.
This story is also about the very fair skinned girl with artistically sharp features, who does not really get any privilege but pays the price of the misconception of some people that she must be privileged! This is the story of this girl who is extremely beautiful from within and externally ... but her beauty became subjected to jealousy - insecurity of others (her own loved ones) - greed to use her (by people like Vasu) - vulnerability (by criminals and people with evil intentions in everyday life).
She sacrifices all that is of hers for those who gave her shelter ... she kept the prestige of her deceased parents all the time. She got some love from her Mamaji, and felt like she received a drop of care from her cousin Ragini (who later made it clear that internally she always observed that Sadhna got most of her part of love - due to which Ragini always had a defensive mode). This feeling of gratefulness towards Ragini led her to a streak of sacrifices ... which later turned into a habbit for this poor soul - and formed an inertia.
This is about two sisters ... Ragini and Sadhna ... who faced two seperate realities of life in the same house. They did live in the SAME HOUSE and got the values OF THE SAME PERSON ... but had very different lives and therefore could receive the virtues from the upbringing in different levels.
Their life brings them tests ... and the story is about those tests.
