TRP... what's the full form?

How often have we heard things like a show being pulled off due to low TRPs. But not many know the full form. Well, it's understandable if people
Aamir Ali
from outside the industry aren't aware, but those part of the fraternity surely should know considering TRPs rule their lives. TRP is basically Television Rating Point. So let's find out how many know this...

Jasvir Kaur
The way it is... errrr.... ummm... aaaa... wait, let me step out of my greenroom... ok, it is, Television Rating... oh god... Programming! We are so used to listening and referring to it as TRP that it doesn't cross our minds to think what the full form could be

Eva Grover
TRP? Frankly speaking I don't know. I've been in television for 12 years now. But I really never gave it a thought. It's some rating, that much I know.

Ali Asgar
Television Ratings... uhhh... Rating Programme or Parameters... something like that. Basically itna malum hai ke actoron ki band bajane wali rating hai ye! Well, well, I think TRP means Television Rating Point.

Manish Goel
Total Rigged Points. That's what I believe and would like to keep believing. Till date I don't understand how they get the so-called Television 'Rating' to 'Point' out!

Chetan Hansraj
Television Rating Point na... is it? Tele Rating Points or something like that. It's anyways like a stock market and I take it with a pinch of salt.

Romit Raj
Tam Rating Programme. Tam must be some technical full-form (this was the initial answer which when he realised something was amiss; took a pause and said...) No wait, it's actually Television Rating Point and TAM is the company which monitors the ratings.

Ashwini Kalsekar
I honestly don't know the official definition. It's something to do with some ratings. Television Ratings... something. But I think it's a ghost! It's scary! Neither me nor anyone I know has seen a TRP meter... toh jo dikhta nahi aur phir bhi darata hai, woh ghost hi hua na?

Mouli Ganguly
Television Rating...
I don't know... Television Rating Point? Tele Rating Programming... something like that... I'm confused!

Amit Tandon
Frankly as I see it... I can say it's Television's Real Poison! Although the real full form would be Television Rating Point, but I feel it's absolute nonsense. I'm sure that mostly it is rigged.

Aamir Ali
I know meri class li ja rahi hai. It is Television Rating Point, but I don't believe in it and neither do I know how it works.

Sharad Kelkar
Ummmm... Television... Rating Points... Arre... just a second... yes, it is Television Rating Point. I don't know if there's a technical lingo to it.

Swapnil Joshi
I actually don't know the full form of it. I'd rather not know. The only thing I know that starts with a 'T' and ends with a 'P' is Taare Zameen Par, which is my favourite movie! On a serious note, TRP is my audience.

Karishma Tanna
Target Rating Point or Television Rating Point. I don't know. I don't really believe in it. I just do my job and get lost!

Ashish Roy
Totally Retarted Polls. Just like a true love, a long lasting marriage, a pure drink at a bar, expecting our neighbouring countries to own up to their acts of terrorism; even TRPs are all fantasies to please our own sense of megalomania!

Sudha Shivpuri
I don't have any idea. I think it's something of a public opinion. Reaction of the public.

in fact i would like to know how they calculate these rating.. here in U.K. i was been told that.. channels select few customers and take a statistics and prediction is been made based on their viewing.. then it cannot be accurate isn't it.. they say so many million views for this episode in comparion with other episode, it is purely based on 10 selected customers and statistics derived out of it..

any comments??

In NZ, Television ratings are calculated through set top boxes that are distributed to people in around 200 homes.....All of whom are different in ethnicity, economic backgrounds, age and gender.....so a wider variety of audience will be taken into account when they analyze the success or failiure of a show......And the powers that be usually generalize the ratings gathered from the 200 set top boxes for these shows to the entire population.....
Of course, this system isn't perfect by any means.....They don't count ratings through recording, or if someone mistakenly leaves their TV on while they leave the house and other things like that.....They also don't count ratings of shows that people watch online..... And 200 is hardly a decent enough sample size....Best not to judge a quality of a show through how they fare in the ratings....
