I can see there are rumblings of disatisfaction with the figure of Rudra because he seems to be aimless and excessive at the moment BUT I love Rudra. Here's why -
Passionate, arrogant, self-destructive; a brooding, gloomy loner; Rudra is a perfect example of a byronic hero. Hard to come by when everyone only wants to see flawless gentlemanly knights in shining armour who save the heroines from distressful situations. There have been plenty of gentlemen/knights on indian tv, so a byronic hero is refreshing. From time to time it's nice to meet a knight who also needs to be rescued and that is what we have in Rudra.
He is not pathetic or stupid, just a misunderstood soul. Rudra is unique because he has a brilliant sense of humour, manages to get into the oddist situations and pulls off crazy acts without being too over the top. He is mad but has a sweet vulnerability which comes out when he is with Gauri, showing us the hurt, misunderstood person underneath.
If he get's a job and starts to act sensibly he will become just another typical rich tycoon, carrying out a series of mysterious 'big' business deals, acting arrogant and egotistical but with a warm heart and in need of some female influence to reveal that godly persona hiden under the rough and tough exterior - basically an addition to a long list of wealthy moody entrepeneurs e.g. Sujal from Kahin to Hoga, Maan from Geet, Arjun from Kitni Mohabbat Hai and many more.
Though, Rudra does have a job since his mother once theatened to throw away a kangan he gave to her from his first wages or something. So Rudra isn't jobless and idiotic, he is simply going through some tough times as his whole life has turned upside down and I'm sure will start work again soon!😉
Rudra might seem irresponsible drinking and doing dramatics but these are desperate times for him so it's justified. As a passionate lover he can't be shown moving on so quickly otherwise he would look fickle. After all Pihu and Rudra are supposed to have been together since childhood, so this is a life long relationship coming to an end.
Rudra is not willfully self-indulgent, and not a bad character as is shown time and time again in the way he helps strangers out, is free with his money and in the way he befriends Gauri ignoring the fact that she is poor and always trying to do right by her. He never harms anyone but himself at least not intentionally.
He reminds me of Dutta Bhao from Laagi Tujhse Lagan (the drinking 😆)combined with UD from KZK- the nautangi and the way he troubles his family. His character is based on Devdas of course, but more than that he reminds me of figures like Mr Rochester from Jane Eyre, Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights or Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray.
So there is Rudra our flawed, confused and lonely hero who will be changed by the lovely Gauri - but not too much I hope! 😉 because his antics provide brilliant entertainment and the time to 'move on' can come slowly.
