A HUGE THANK YOU to all my readers who read and comment on my work! It means a lot! 😳
I love you all!! 🤗
PART 6 (A)
As the sun rises, the sky is painted with different shades of pink and orange.
I enjoy the view and the cool early morning breeze. I spurt ketchup all over my samosa and bite into it. Ah! The fragrance, the crunch, the spice of the stuffing and the sweet and salty ketchup. As I bite into it, the world suddenly becomes a better place.
I am Prem Kumar Chaudhary aka PKC.
Known for my boring lectures, bulging tummy, huge appetite, clumsiness and considered the laughing stock of F.I.T.E.
I have never been taken seriously.
Getting students and colleagues to listen to me is a difficult task for me due to my unassertive nature and boring methods of teaching.
But no matter how hard I try, I am not able to make my lectures interesting.
Everyday, as I walk through the corridor, I hear sniggers and jokes from all corners. I just keep walking and pretend I heard nothing, but...inside, I feel like crying.
And then there is Vardhan.
He is the best professor of F.I.T.E, a genius, someone who everyone respects and values. The moment he enters a class, everyone becomes silent. Everyone, from the Dean to the students, is awed by him. His lectures are loved and anticipated. He has a magnetic personality.
And he doesn't even need to try hard for all this!! How I envy him...
I have been under his shadow ever since he arrived 7 years ago. He rules the roost in F.I.T.E. He is even more influential than the dean.
And I keep trying to improve, break free of the stereotype I have been put into, but no one notices.
I gave 16 years of my life to this institute. Worked with dedication. But it doesn't matter to anyone.
It probably never will.
END OF POV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a mini stampede near the notice board as students rushed to see which team they were in. The notice said-
TEAM 1 TEAM 2 TEAM 3 TEAM 4
Aryan Sahil Rehan Aashi
Ishika Naina Karan Hrithik
Payal Dev Arjun Kanika
Randhir Jignesh Sanyukta Akash
Varun Manik Paritosh Kabir
There were reactions ranging from excitement and elation to grim disappointment.
It was time for the first task.
The game was on.
This fest was not an inter-college fest. For the second time in the history of FITE, teams from the same college would be the contenders for the final prize. Which would be revealed only when the winners were declared. And the winning team would participate in the annual inter-college festival.
All the students assembled in the mechanical lab for their first task.
"Good morning! Today, we commence our Tech Fest 2007. Our esteemed judges are Ms. Maya Thakur, CEO of Illuminati Industries, and Mr. Rohit Bansal, the author of many critically acclaimed reference books."
Everyone clapped for them.
Maya stood up and announced, "As you can see, there are some engines in front of you. You have to find the defects in them and rectify them. You will have 30 minutes for this task. When the time is up, a team member will explain what defects there were and how they were rectified. The team with the best explanation will win this round."
"This is so easy," Randhir whispered to his team mate.
"There is a catch," Maya continued. "There are no tools over here. They are there in the store room, that too unequally distributed. So, you have to go yourself and grab the tools you need before the other teams do. Best of luck!"
3...2...1...Go!
The four teams rushed to their work benches and started searching for defects. They had to decide who would go to get the required tools.
The tension was building up.
"I'll go get the tools," Sanyukta said to her team. "No!" Karan replied. "You are quick and efficient, we need you here to find and rectify the defects."
"It'll take me only a minute!" she insisted. "And Rehan is here to help with the defects."
"Go, Sanyukta," Rehan said. "And remember, no matter what happens, you have to get the tools we need. AT ANY COST."
She nodded and ran to the store room.
There was only one other student over there. Payal, a team mate of Randhir.
Sanyukta had got almost all her tools, except for a screwdriver. She was dismayed to see that the lone screwdriver had been taken by Payal.
As Payal was about to leave with the screwdriver, Sanyukta remembered Rehan's words.
"AT ANY COST."
She immediately ran to the door, tripped Payal over, grabbed the screwdriver and ran to the lab, without looking back.
Payal had twisted her ankle, and she groaned in pain.
Sanyukta reached her team and gave them the tools.
"Good job!" Rehan smiled and said. The other team members were overjoyed.
She grinned and started working.
As she was rectifying a glitch in the engine, somewhere in the back of her mind, she was feeling bad too. She didn't even look back when Payal got tripped over. She should have at least apologised. She sighed.
"That was bad of me. I hope she is fine," she thought.
Meanwhile, Payal came back limping. She glared at Sanyukta and walked to her workbench.
She had got every tool which was required except for the screw driver.
"Why are you limping Payal?" Randhir asked in a concerned voice.
"Some idiotic girl tripped me over and snatched the screw driver I had got for our team! This is so unfair! That bloody cheat!" Payal exclaimed.
"Who was she?" Varun asked.
"I don't know her name," she replied.
"Guys, we have no choice but to work without a screw driver. Let's try and do our best," Randhir said.
"How can someone be so desperate to win? Disgusting," Randhir said to himself.

Vidushi wanted the last vanilla cupcake in the canteen. The horrible mess food had made her taste buds numb, and she really needed to eat something sweet.
As she walked to the canteen, her way was blocked by none other than Parth Kashyap. The irritating and notorious rich brat of her batch. And filled with dollops of arrogance.
All he would talk about was his victories in basketball matches, how every girl in his class had a crush on him in school, and his extravagant lifestyle. Million dollar trips to exotic islands were ordinary things for him.
"Hey, Lady Ninja!" he said, with his trademark cheeky grin.
"I have a very nice name, for your kind information," she replied with forced politeness.
"And, I am getting late for something important, so please get aside."
"You may proceed," he said, getting out of the way.
She reached the canteen and happily placed her order for the cupcake. She was shocked to know that the last one had been eaten by someone else.
"Arre yaar!" she exclaimed!
She turned around as she heard someone approaching her. Parth smirked and said. "Aww. Was someone rushing to the canteen to eat the last vanilla cupcake?"
Her eyes widened and she said, "It was you who ate it! And you knew I wanted the last one!"
He just continued smirking and said, "Well, it ain't there anymore, so enjoy the watery kheer the mess committee is serving as dessert for lunch."
She slumped her soldiers, and started walking back, suddenly stopping right in front of Parth. "I think my earring fell," she said and bent down. She got up after a few seconds, smiled at him and walked off.
Parth tripped and fell on his side when he started walking.
He sat up and rubbed his shoulder. He saw that his shoelaces had been tied together.
"Arrrggghhh! Vidushi Kumar!" he angrily exclaimed.
