Once he made up his up in doing something Randhir never backed out, he pushed back all those disturbing thoughts of Sanyukta slapping him hard, never talking to him again in her life, and proceeded to get on with his plan. He rushed to the store room and rummaged through the place, looking for metal scraps which could be recycled, taking those parts which were suitable, he hurried to the workshop...after working for some time, he looked at his finished product admiringly, giving a silent pat on his back for achieving this no mean feat , he went on to do the next job, that of engraving on it...as he painstakingly carved the names , he wondered how in the world he ended up becoming such a cheesy romantic? Love really does change a person...and it even changed the "I am the best" ever so arrogant, MCP, "Rank No:1" , Randhir Singh Shekhawat...Looking at the engraving, he smiled...he turned over the ring he made in his hand, and congratulated himself on his handiwork... "it's perfect", he murmured as he read the engraving...
Randhir took a deep breath, put the ring in his pocket, and went out with determination, looking for Sanyukta...after hunting for her in various places around the college he finally spotted her at the canteen chatting with Kaustuki...as he was coming towards her, Sanyukta noticed him and smiled at him...she waved at him and asked him to join them...Randhir in turn replied " Can you please come with me? I need to talk to you...err...alone"
Sanyukta looked at Kaustuki, who just rolled her eyes and replied, " yeah , fine ...I am leaving...have some work in the library anyway...you two carry on"
As Kaustuki left from there, Randhir came forward and said , "Sanyukta...umm...lets go from here...its too noisy..."
"Since when did you start getting bothered about noise?...why are you acting so weird?"
"Please...just come with me..." Randhir almost pleaded her
Finally Sanyukta, agreed to go with him...Randhir took her to that part of the college campus, where the old building of the college stood...hardly any student came there, as no classes were held at that building, and moreover renovation was going on that time...so that place was out of bounds officially...they went over to a small clearing just behind the building...
Randhir cleared his throat as he prepared mentally for the most important speech in his entire life...he saw Sanyukta looking at him curiously...her questioning look made him even more nervous...
"Sanyukta...I wanted to ask you something"...Randhir began..
"Yeah, tell.." Sanyukta replied
"Sanyukta, why did you hide such a big thing from me? ...what happened that made you avoid telling me this?..." Randhir mentally kicked himself...the speech that he had prepared had somehow got lost in the dark abyss of his now messy brain...and what came out of his mouth were these questions...
"What? ... Randhir...I have not hidden anything from you!" she replied...she avoided meeting his eyes...which gave away the fact that indeed she was not being entirely truthful
"Look...Sanyukta...I know your parents have fixed your marriage...and you are upset about that..." Randhir said
" How...how did you know...Kaustuki told you right?" Sanyukta asked him, her surprise apparent from her voice
"It doesn't matter how I know...but if its so much important for you then , yes, Kaustuki told me...i had to pester her for days to make her tell me though..." Randhir said..
"Ok...now...tell me...we are supposed to be best friends right?...and we should share all our problems...then why did you not share this with me?" he continued
" I wanted to forget about this incident...I wanted to remain aloof to my impending bleak future...the more I share this news with people the more I get depressed...and with you I just always want to remain happy...to forget everything that bothers me...I did not even want to share this with Kaustu...but she being my room- mate, over heard me talking about this with my mom over the phone..." sighed Sanyukta...
Seeing her forlorn face broke Randhir's heart...he just wanted to envelope her into a big hug, never letting her go...
"Stupid girl...does ignoring a problem solves it?...we have to face it...why did you not tell your parents that you don't want to marry that guy?...i am sure they would have understood..", Randhir said comforting her...
"If it were any other guy , may be they would have listened...but not Sameer.." Sanyukta replied sadly
"what?? ...Sameer? That idiot who tried to...are you out of your mind that you agreed for that match...didn't you tell your parents what he tried to do with you" Randhir said incredulously
"It was no use...he had already cooked up some story like , how he was attacked by a goon when he had tried to help a lady...and in the process got hurt...I could not possibly prove that he was lying" said Sanyukta regretfully
"That scumbag...how dare he...Sanyukta you will not get married to him...not now ...not ever...I will not let you get married to someone like him..." Randhir fumed...
"If not him ...then my parents will get someone else...how does it matter Randhir, eventually they will marry me off and I will not be able to live my dreams" Sanyukta sighed sadly...
"Who says?...I will not let you go..." Blurted out Randhir..
"Its not for you to stop me from going...is it?" Sanyukta asked him...there were thousand questions in her eyes...it was as if she was egging him on to tell something...leading him towards his mission...
"It is ...and it always will be..." Randhir said...he knew the time has finally come when he must tell her what he wanted to say throughout the day...he must speak his heart out ... " Sanyukta.." ,he paused , as he came forward and took Sanyukta's hand in his..seeing the confusion on her face made him have second thoughts about whether to go on with his speech or not...but he knew there was no turning back now, so he continued, "there is a reason I brought you here...a reason why I wanted to be alone with you...away from everyone...all day I had prepared a big speech...a speech suitable for some stupid romantic fool...but now I have forgotten all that...i don't even want to think about that...Sanyukta, all through my life I had believed that I was that unwanted piece of object that everyone likes to ignore, they take a look at you and then go away never to return again...i wanted to be an orphan, but instead I had parents who gave me everything that money could buy except what I craved the most...them...their time...a bit of their care...as I grew up, I saw people looking at me, with pity in their eyes...i was that "poor little rich boy who belongs to a broken family" for them...it made me hate them...i wanted to run away, I wanted to be alone...i wanted to be lonely...and that's what I became, a loner...i was happy being that, trying to find happiness in my loneliness...and then you came into my life...you were like a fire who tried to burn through the wall , which I had created so carefully to protect from all the emotions that lay buried in my heart...i started to hate you, I hated you for making me feel vulnerable, for making me feel weak...and so I decided to challenge you...i realised then , you were unlike others...you did not pity me...you matched up with my every challenge...you threw your own challenges at me...as our little fights grew my loneliness started to disappear...then one day we became best friends...i will always cherish that day when I got you as my friend...for the first time in my life I felt, I am worth something , to someone...that I can also important in someone's life...Sanyukta, I don't know, how or when...or the exact moment...but I know this much...that I have fallen hopelessly in love with you...I know this is not exactly a pretty or romantic confession, that you must have expected from someone who loves you...but this is what I am , a fool, the most unromantic fool, who does not bring flowers, candies, balloons, gifts or cards to propose the person he loves...who cannot even memorise the words of a beautiful couplet to woo her...but instead blabbers away, wallowing in self pity , trying to put across his thoughts...I don't know what you are thinking...may be you want to slap me...may be you will stop speaking to me after this...but believe me...I tried ...i really tried to keep myself from falling in love with you, as your friendship is precious to me and I cannot lose it, even if it meant breaking my heart by not confessing my feelings...but I could not...i could not see some idiot snatching you away from me...i still don't know what you feel for me...but I do hope you will not hate me after this..." Randhir stopped...it was his longest speech that he had ever made in his life...he knew whatever he told Sanyukta was utter nonsense...he was still in a daze, after letting out his pent up emotions ...it was embarrassing that he has also forgotten parts of the speech with which he had just tortured Sanyukta...with bated breath he looked at Sanyukta...he saw a myriad of expressions crossing her face, as she processed all that Randhir had just told...to his horror he saw Sanyukta's eyes were glistening with tears, he cursed himself inwardly, thinking that his speech was so horrible and torturous that he made her cry...he was just about to apologize when, he saw Sanyukta's face breaking into a smile...it was then he realized why those romantic fools whom he used to mock, used to get busy writing poems and couplets dedicated to their lady love , it was to see that smile on her face...that smile which was brighter than sunshine, that can break away through the deep dark clouds...
"Damn!, and here I go again with my sappy thoughts", thought Randhir, as words like " sunshine', clouds' and smile' popped in his brain...
One moment she was smiling at him and the next moment Randhir found Sanyukta grabbing his collar and pulling him towards her...before he could react, she had sealed her lips with his...his initial surprise soon gave away to the passion he felt his heart...he pulled her closer, his arms around her waist, deepening their kiss...his hands went towards her hair , he opened the clutch that held her hair, making her hair fall across her face, he ran his hands through her hair, entwining them in his fingers, as they kissed each other hungrily...it was like fire coursing through his veins...he never thought he could feel so passionately for someone, these feelings were new to him...as they broke away from their kiss, he brought her lips near Sanyukta's ears and whispered " So, what is your answer.."
"You still need an answer..." Sanyukta whispered back,
"I do..." , said Randhir as he gently nipped on her earlobes...he felt Sanyukta shiver...
"I love you too, Randhir..." she whispered softly... "You idiot, what took you so long to say all these?" she continued and hit him gently on his chest with her fist...
"So you will not slap me? Or stop talking to me?" Randhir asked looking bewildered , his mind still not registering the incidents that had taken place few moments back ...
"Why will I , you stupid, when I was waiting to hear these words from you for so long?...and being the idiot you are, you could not even understand what I felt for you..." Sanyukta said almost scolding Randhir...
" Well, how the hell am I supposed to read your mind? I am not that weird vampire from Twilight "... Randhir muttered..
"huh! You read Twilight? And I thought you are not romantic..." Sanyukta said raising her eyebrows...
"err, I did not read the book...I watched the movie...and that also because Jiggy forced me too..." Randhir said avoiding Sanyukta's eyes and mentally making a note to delete all those stupid romantic flicks from Jiggy's laptop, at the first chance...he suddenly remembered that he had still not given Sanyukta the ring, which was still lying in his pocket... " Sanyukta, there is something I have for you" ...he said ...he took her hand and made her sit on a stone bench , he knelt down in front of her, and then brought out the ring tentatively...he looked straight into her eyes and said ...
"I know this is not diamond...but I wanted you to have a part of your dreams, a part of our friendship, a part of the place which you love, to be always with you..."
Sanyukta looked at him awestruck; she took the ring from his hand and said
"Randhir? ... did you make this? ...she turned over the ring and read the engraving, which had their names ...she threw her arms around him and whispered, " This is beautiful Randhir, I don't need diamonds, you don't know how much it is worth, it is a worth a thousand diamond rings...whoever said you were unromantic must be crazy..." , she gave a small peck on his cheeks.. "now come on, put this on my finger quickly..." she said smiling...
Randhir took the ring from her hand and tried to put it on her finger, but unfortunately it was a bit small for her...he cursed himself for not thinking of taking the measurement of her finger...may be Sanyukta had noticed his disappointed face, for she suddenly said... "wait a minute Randhir, I have an idea"...saying this she removed a plain silver chain from her neck, and took the ring from Randhir...she then put the chain through the ring, making it look like a pendant...she held that out to Randhir and asked him make her wear this chain again...he then, placed that chain across her neck, and locked it in place... "This is even better, now it will always remain near my heart" said Sanyukta softly...Sitting down beside her, Randhir put his one arm around Sanyukta, and pulled her closer, she rested her head on his shoulder and sighed...they remained sitting like this for some time, enjoying the quietness and just the presence of each other...Randhir broke the silence and said " You were quiet fast...waiting to kiss me for a long time were you?" ...his tone was teasing ...just as he expected , he saw Sanyukta looking at him annoyed, " Oh yeah ! I was dying to do that...what else could I do, first you took such a long time to propose...and then when you finally did it, you stood looking at me as if I have shot you or something...i thought I should help you out as god knows how many years you would have taken to take the next step"..Sanyukta tried to mock him..
"Hmmm, so you were that desperate!...and I thought you just thought me as a friend...never thought you had other intentions in your mind?... now that's wicked !" Randhir winked at her smirking and watched Sanyukta blush red...
"Me and having dirty thoughts?...and you were a saint right?...tell me you never had any other intention in your mind when you kept staring at me, as I worked...or when you always tried to be with me, whenever you could?" ..Sanyukta said...and it was Randhir's turn then to blush...
"You noticed that?..." he said feeling a bit embarrassed
"You were not that inconspicuous, you know..." Sanyukta teased him..
"Well just to make this clear, I was never desperate...and I never had any inappropriate thoughts about you...I am Randhir Singh Shekhawat...and I don't have to be desperate..." ..he stated proudly..
"Once an MCP, always an MCP..." said Sanyukta and shook her head in mock regret..
"And you will always remain farzi..." Randhir retorted back..
"Don't you dare call me farzi"...flared up Sanyukta
"Farzi..." he replied back in a sing song voice... "See? I dared!"
"MCP..." she huffed...
"Well saying that won't make you lesser a farzi than you already are.." he continued
"I hate you..." she said
"nah ! you don't Farzi..." he winked at her
"stop calling me Farzi...you MCP" she yelled
"Never..." he said , he loved it how Sanyukta was getting all worked up..
"This is not fair...you..." , but before she could complete her sentence, he had sealed her lips with his, wrapping his hands around her, he deepened the kiss...they broke apart breathing heavily...he kissed her forehead and removed a lock of hair from her face...
"Will we ever stop fighting?" Sanyukta whispered, as she hugged him...
"Nope...never... as I love making up with you..." he said as he softly kissed on her lips again..
