This is bound to tug at the heartstrings of any animal lover. TV actress Monalika Bhonsle (she plays Zenab in the Star One show Saathi Re) has a pet Lhasa Terrier called Pepper.

But as Monalika lives alone in a rented apartment at Seven Bungalows, she is unable to take care of Pepper.

No time for Pepper

As she shoots for Saathi Re everyday from morning to night, there is no time to take the dog for walks and to feed at regular intervals.

As a result, her good friend, actress Poonam Joshi, (Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Kahiin To Hoga) who stays in Lokhandwala, initially helped by taking care of Pepper in her absence.

But when things became difficult, as Poonam also has two pet dogs — a pariah called Patch and a Lhasa Apso called Angel — Poonam gave Pepper away to a family who lives in South Mumbai.

Obviously, Monalika is upset but there is nothing that she can do about it due to her long hours on the sets.

"My career is very important to me at this point of time," says Monalika, who was earlier seen in Balaji shows like Kesar, Kkusum, Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeequat and Kutumb, says it's been over a week and she don't have the courage to visit Pepper. "The only consolation is that Pepper is with a loving family."

Incidentally, the new owner of Pepper is Prem, who is part of the team of Sphere Origins, the producers of Saathi Re.

Doggie tales

Says Monalika, "Poonam was taking good care of Pepper but Patch used to hate him.

I was sure that Patch would kill Pepper one day, ao I had to agree to let Pepper go. Pepper was with me for over one and a half years. So now it is like something is missing from my home and my life."

Adds Poonam, "Initially, for a while, it was okay as even if I was not at home, my roommate was around.

But then handling three dogs became a bit difficult, and Pepper couldn't keep making trips up and down from Monalika's house. It was better this way to find Pepper a loving family as well."

Incidentally, Monalika's siblings are also part of the television whirl. Her brother is Bobby Bhonsle, who is the writer of the Balaji show Kasamh Se and also acts in Kayamath and Karam Apna Apna, While her sister Sonalika is the creative head for the Star One drama Betiyaan.
