Why's Indira insecure?

The beautiful Indira Krishnan, apart from playing mommy to Kanchi Kaul in Ek Ladki Anjaani Si, is also making an appearance as Kiran Karmarkar's wife in Star One's Saathi Re. But the interesting bit is, that whereas she plays the goodygoody mother in Ek Ladki..., she'll be seen as an insecure wife of a dominating husband in the new show. It's quite a challenge for her and the lady's sure she'll come out tops in that too. Well, now that's something the audience will decide!

Indira Krishnan joins the Saathi Re gang

Looks like its going good for Star One's upcoming show Saathi Re. With a rather strong starcast which includes the leading protagonist Parakh Madan, Arjun Punj and Kiran Karmarkar; we now have yet another versatile actor Indira Krishnan joining the gang.

Elaborating on her new role in the show, she says, "I play Kiran Karmarkar's wife in the show and mother to the lead protagonist Parakh Madan. Viewers will see me as a very insecure wife, who is always dominated by her husband. It's a nice, interesting daily soap which will appeal to viewers cutting across all agegroups So, youngsters, adults and women will love the story. It's more of a family story with a blend of college happenings Also, one will get to see a lot of new comers and fresh faces in the show."

Rather thrilled about the role, she further adds, "I hate to play stereotypical kind of roles which sort of limits an actor. I prefer different and contrasting roles to break away from the current trend."
Currently, the actor is being seen as a rather emotional but intelligent mother in Sony's Ek Ladki Anjaani Si.

Meanwhile, coming from the makers of Saat Phere, a lot of hopes are being pinned on this Sunjoy Wadhwa (Sphere Origin) production. Earlier on the show was titled as Saptapadi.

The promos of the show are already being aired and the show has been scheduled to kick off on October 10.

Women in lead!

Women reign on STAR One, as the channel is all set to launch two family entertainment extravaganzas - 'Saathi Re' and 'Betiyaan apni yaa… Paraaya Dhan'

Starting this October, you have more reasons to be glued to your favourite channel, and better... You have new women to look out for in the two new shows.

Announcing the new programming block, Ms. Shailja Kejriwal, Senior Creative Director, Star India Pvt. Ltd. said, "We are delighted to bring a whole new entertainment experience to our viewers. With the new season of Nach Baliye 2 coming soon, we are all set to revamp primetime viewing with the two new shows that boast of a combination of intense family and social drama. Paraaya Dhan and Saathi Re will also see fresh content and some exciting new faces on STAR One."

Here is a quick take on the stories and the women in lead.

Saathi Re with lead Parakh Madan
Saathi Re is the story of Suman - a dutiful daughter, a loving sister, beautiful and idealistic… Traditional but confident… She epitomizes the ideal Indian girl. Her world is her small family with their middle class lifestyle and idiosyncrasies and their moments of joys, togetherness, turmoil and sorrows. This little world of Suman would indeed have been perfect if it were not for one thing. Her recurring nightmares… Nightmares about snakes, which leave her distraught every time and bring her bad luck!

As the story progresses it is learnt that nightmares have a greater significance in her life and indicates a 'Nagin Dosh' (flaw) in her Kundali. What jolts her family further is when they learn that Suman's Kundali will create havoc not only in her own life but also in other people's life around her.

Suman's role is played by newcomer - Parakh Madan, for who says acting is a new domain, but she does have a couple of commercials like Nokia, World Space, etc., to her credit. Parakh comes from a Punjabi family and the whole Gujrati customs and traditions are new to her. She says, "Suman is unlike me, she is mature and reserved, I myself am a brat as I am the younger daughter at home. So we are two different people and this is a sure challenge." Others in cast include Kiran Karmarkar, Indira Krishnan, Neena Gupta and Arjun Punjj.

Betiyaan apni yaa… Paraaya Dhan with lead Gauri Negulkar
Betiyaan apni yaa… Paraaya Dhan is the story of six daughters and one son born into a Zamindar family of Neelkanth Chanda Rana. Reality of millions of Indian daughters is brought on screen in the story of a father who rebukes his daughters because for him they are a burden.

Krishna, the eldest daughter and the protagonist is played by Gauri Negudkar. Krishna's role is based on none other than Lord Krishna's character and personifies his depth of wisdom and understanding.

A simple, honest and principled girl, she is the balancing factor amongst her sisters. Paraaya Dhan may be considered the story of many a home in India where it is believed that a son will take the family name further and a daughter is paraya dhan.

The protagonist role of Krishna is played by Gauri Negudkar who has a few projects up her sleeves. Gauri has been part of a Marathi show called Uttarayan, a couple of commercials including that of Moov. A Mumbaikar, Gauri has one sister and comes to tensil town with a Post Graduation degree in Chemistry, she aspired to be a Chemistry Professor until offers poured in.

Gauri's initiations into acting was when she was asked to be part of a theatre workshop after her 12th grade. A few one-act plays, tele-films and Gauri is here as a new beti on STAR One, "I'm a devotee of Lord Krishna myself and it is a pleasure to play a role that personifies his dept of wisdom and understanding, I hoped I would play a Meera Bhai, but I feel privileged to play Krishna."

Others in cast include Rajeev Varma, Madhuri Sanjeev, Ketaki Dave, Faisal Raza Khan, Gautam Rode, Shilpa Shinde and Ali Asgar.

To find out what Krishna and Suman have in store for you, tune into STAR One for thodi masti, thoda romance, lots of drama and non-stop entertainment…

'I will never smooch on screen'

DEEPALI DHINGRA

If you thought actors are dumb, take a look at Parakh Madan. This 23 year old charming girl has a degree in fashion designing from NIFT and has been learning kathak since she was six years old. "I learnt kathak from Pandit Birju Maharaj and I'm a part of his performance troupe," she says. Originally from Ranchi, Parakh came to Mumbai in May this year to try her luck at a magazine contest and ended up becoming the cover girl for the magazine. Not only that, she also auditioned and bagged roles in a film as well as a TV serial.
"Acting has always been at the back of mind," says Parakh, "Right after I won the magazine contest, I got selected to play the second lead in the movie Jai Santoshi Ma," she recalls. She will also be seen as Suman in Saathi Re on Star One, where she gets to play a middle Gujarati girl and act alongside Arjun Punjj, Neena Gupta and Amir Dalvi. "Both the roles I'm doing are very different from each other," she says.
But both the roles that she is playing are clean roles that require no exposure. Would she be willing to be a part of a project that requires her to do so? "Not really, " she says, "I genuinly believe that there are ways of showing intimacy without getting intimate in reality." Here's to somebody who knows where she's headed!

Saathi Re : Torn between love and duty
Touted as an intense family drama, Saathi Re premieres this October on STAR One. It is the story of Suman, a dutiful daughter, a loving sister, beautiful, traditional and confident. In short, the ideal Indian girl. Her world is her small family with their middle class lifestyle and idiosyncrasies. This little world of Suman would have been perfect if it were not for her recurring nightmares which leave her distraught every time and bring her bad luck! As the story progresses it is learnt that her nightmares have a greater significance in her life...
For Parakh Madan who makes her television debut with the serial, the role is challenging and exciting. But unlike Suman, Parakh is a girl who has a mind of her own and "not at all docile". Actually, the role is completely in contrast with her nature. "In real life, I am this restless, pampered, naughty girl. I am most comfortable in jeans, skirts and T-shirts while Suman never gets out of the salwar kameezs," she laughs. Suman is the kind of girl who abides by her parent's wishes and faces a dilemma when she falls in love with Prem (Arjun Punjj), whom her folks oppose and get married off to Rajeev. "It is a story of love, duty and sacrifices," surmises Parakh who will be also be seen in Jai Santoshi Maa releasing this Friday. She plays the second lead in the film. Parakh is a classical Kathak dancer trained under Birju Maharaj. She made her first trip to Mumbai for a magazine's cover shoot and since then has been a frequent visitor. But this time she has stayed put what with a film and a serial happening simultaneously. "I want to give my best to the serial and also learn as much as I can from the director and my co-actors," she says earnestly. Already she has won brownie points from Arjun who says that the most important thing for a newcomer is that he/she should be focussed "which Parakh is". Arjun who opted out of Woh Rehnewali Mehlon Ki because he didn't want to grey his hair jumped at his role in Saathi Re. "Prem is a today's guy who wears sports and denim jackets. At the same time there is some goodness in him," says the actor who has played similar roles earlier but promises to give this a different look and approach. Prem is shown to be orphan who is brought up by his aunt. He is ambitious yet eternally romantic, an extremist in his beliefs yet courageous enough to stand by them. He is a short tempered guy who is out to prove a point and carve an identity for himself in the world. Most importantly, he is in love with Suman. Arjun, who is rehearsing for Nach Baliye 2, is looking forward to both the shows coming on air around the same time. NB2 will start airing from September 25 while Saathi Re starts from next month. "Already I am finding it very tiring. The rehearsals sap your energy completely and are time-consuming. But it is exciting too 'cause I can spend a lot of time with Gurdip," he quips. The other man in Suman's life, Rajeev, is being played by Amir Dalvi. He is the 'Ram' of the family; sensitive, big-hearted, dotes on his siblings yet sophisticated and broadminded with a charming personality. As the eldest son of the family, he believes in treating everybody with respect but has a naive quality of believing people around him. Armed with an MBA degree, he takes responsibility of everyone in the family and becomes the son in Suman's father's life.

For Amir, the role was a welcome change from his negative character in Jab Love Hua. "Usually when you play the bad man once, you tend to get typecast, so when this offer came to me I jumped at it," he grins. Amir who has done several serials in the past beginning with Nyay, Kabhi Aaye Na Judaai and Awaaz to name a few feels Saathi Re will be by far his best. The other actors in the cast include Kiran Karmarkar and Neena Gupta.

Meet the leading lady of Saathi Re!

Parakh Madan is the new fresh face to hit the tube in the soon to be launched Star One show Saathi Re. The actor won the cover girl contest of a leading magazine recently and bagged the coveted role of the protagonist , Suman in the

Parakh Madan: Playing Suman!

show. Parakh has completed her fashion designing course from NIFT, Delhi and this is not all she even went on to top the list in her institute. Also the multi faceted young lady has been learning Kathak for the past sixteen years and trained under Pt Birju Maharaj while in Delhi.
Talking about her foray on television she says "I play this girl next door, simple, calm, mature and docile girl who belongs to a Gujrati family. She's this ideal take home bahu who respects her family and she's all about what girls should be like. The show will have me transforming from a college girl to a bahu who takes a stand and controls situations when things go wrong."
The actor will don an Indian ethnic look in the show and has had a learning experience shooting for the show so far.
So how is her family taking to her new found recognition and did she harbour dreams of making it big in the glamour field?
"It's been one month of shooting for the show and it's been a pleasant experience so far with such seasoned actors around me and we share an amazing rapport. My family has always supported my decisions and they are happy for me. As a child I'd spend hours in front of the mirror- posing, dancing, doing make up and making faces and somewhere I wanted to act and probably that came from my love for dance ," says the Ranchi bred girl has been staying in Delhi for the past five years. and is currently busy shooting thirteen hours a day for Saathi Re.
The actor plans to concentrate on her television show but is game for films as well in the future and her ultimate goal is to start a dance academy.

Star One to beef up prime time with 'Saathi Re'

Indiantelevision.com Team

(14 September 2006 5:00 pm)

MUMBAI: Zee TV driver show Saath Phere producer Sphere Origins has now teamed up with Star One for a prime time soap. The serial Saathi Re will launch in October.

"We are planning to launch Saathi Re in October. The plan is to let Nach Baliye 2 (launching on 25 September) get settled and then follow the big launch with this soap. Saathi Re will be a daily soap," states Star India senior creative director Shailja Kejriwal.

Saathi Re is the story of Suman, an ideal Indian girl, who is torn between her family and love life. The soap stars Arjun Punjj, newcomer Parakh Madan, Neena Gupta, Kiran Karmarkar and Amir Dalvi doing the key roles.

"Just because the heroine has someone else also, other than her husband, in her life, it doesn't mean that Saathi Re is a tale of adultery. The subject has been handled in such a way that, it will appeal to the whole family," says Kejriwal.

Arjun harassed by fan
By: Vickey Lalwani
September 15, 2006

Arjun Punjj
Someone other than their Nach Baliye chorographers is making Arjun Punjj and Gurdip Kohli dance. Arjun is being stalked on the phone by a restless female fan who calls herself Nivedita, who has been relentlessly calling him since the past ten days.

Arjun did not take it seriously, when the calls began. "I thought she was just a fan who would stop calling after one or two times, which is the normal case with every fan. But this girl is different. She is pushy and does not end the conversation until I disconnect the phone. She leaves me exasperated every time."

Wants to dance!

"Nivedita calls up even in the middle of the night. Earlier, she used to call up from the same number. I stopped responding to that number. Then, she smartly started calling up from different numbers. She says that she likes me from the days that I was part of Sanjivani. God knows who gave her my number," he says.

What does Nivedita want? She wants to dance with Arjun in Nach Baliye, saying she wishes she was in Gurdip's shoes. Arjun fumbles, "Well, she surely cannot do that. But she has expressed a desire to be a part of the audience. She can do that if she wants."

Wants to meet

Punjj's fiance Gurdip says she knows about Nivedita. "Arjun tells me everything. I am really not disturbed by Nivedita's constant calling. I trust my man completely and know that I hold the highest position in his life, even higher than his work."

But Gurdip is keen to meet Nivedita. "I definitely want to see this girl," she laughs. "So we hope that she does make it to the audience during one of the episodes."

However, the couple is relieved that Nivedita is not an obscene caller. "Earlier, I thought that I should report her numbers to the police, but so far, I haven't pressed the issue," says Arjun. Gurdip handles it more maturely. "I think that this is a stage through which every actor goes through," she concludes.

New innings

Arjun has signed a new show Saathi Re, where he plays the lead. His opening scene was shot at Worli Seaface a few days back. Sanjay Wadhwa is producing the show under the banner Sphere Origins. It is a daily, to be telecast on Star One. "It's a love triangle between a new girl Parakh, Amit Dalvi (of Jab Love Hua) and myself. Unlike Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, where I donned formals, I will be sporting casuals on this show."

Kiran gears up for his new innings!

Kiran Karmarkar, fondly remembered as Om of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki is on seventh heaven! Apart from his long awaited character (mentally ill son) in Star Plus'sThodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasman, he will soon be seen donning a new avataar in Sony's Man Mein Hai Vishwas' next episode and Star One's Saathi Re.

Talking about Man Mein......, Kiran explains "It's a true story about a couple who are unable to conceive a child. The wife requests her husband (a doctor by profession) to visit the Haji Ali Baba, who is well known for his miracles, but then he refuses to do so. Months later the wife gives birth to a child and things change," explains Kiran. He further adds, "It's basically about how I (the husband) start believing in God."

"I am an atheist," avers Kiran and taking up this role was nothing less than a challenge for the actor. "I don't believe in God, and am playing someone who starts believing in Him. It came across as a very challenging role as it's totally different from what my perspective is. It takes me on another level of acting altogether," states Kiran.

He is not only very excited about his entry in Thodi Si.. this week, but also charged up about his new daily Saathi Re on Star One (earlier titled as Saptapadi). "I play father to the female protagonist, and my character is on the lines of Hitler. She goes to the extent of asking me, mogambo khush hua?" says the actor. Saathi Re is about a girl who is caught between two guys, and faces a problem with her kundali. The show also features Arjun Punjj, Aamir Dalvi and debutant Parakh Madan.

Other than television, Kiran keeps doing theatre on and off. This talented actor has definitely blocked his appointment diary post the Om-act!
