The undeniable quality of Ahem that Kokila expressed about her son - once he has a taste of having something that is his he will not let it go.
This quality is the cornerstone of this show. It is this that Kokila knew of her son that enabled her to make her choice of a wife for her son. Her task was to seek the best possible person which she has proved time and time again that she has not erred in anyway. She knew that once he understands his wife he will not let go of her. This is exactly what had happened.
He did take some time to come through with this. There was a dialogue he had with his mother following nani's departure that comes to mind. We know that he had promised his mother that he will behave as a husband in the presence of nani. Once nani left he was keen for Gopi to return to her mami's house. This is where Kokila refused to heed his request. Amongst the many things that was exchanged between mother and son one of the pointed statements Ahem had told his mother was that Gopi was not his ideal partner and asked her why she had chosen her. Kokila's response was that she is the most suitable partner for him and that in time he will see her worth. This is precisely what unfolded over time and he eventually took interest in Gopi's education and the rest, as they say, is history.
So too, with Ahem's reluctance to carry his child soon time will show his unbreakable attachment.
It is interesting that a mother who knows her child so well sought after a partner that will congeal with both herself and her son forming an unbreakable bond, as Sameera (sunnyahem) mentioned in her recent post.
It is intriguing to note this is very quality is what creates a web of relationships that sustains through the show.
