His head throbbed and he felt sore all over. But Ahem stifled the moan and. He had to make sure that the men did not hear him awake. They would not just tranquilize him but all his efforts to get the knot loose would be wasted.
Ahem lay waiting for the sounds to die away and the door to close. They had left for an hour in between. He prayed they did the same again very soon.

"Now Bhabhi, you promised. You will rest for the next few hours and not tire yourself." Jigar made Gopi sit down in the hotel bed telling her to rest. They were in Bhuj, in search of Ahem. "But Devarji, I need to..." "There is nothing we can do until morning Bhabhi. You know that. Please Bhabhi.." The last line was a plea.
Gopi nodded and gave Jigar a small smile without any happiness in it. She settled herself while Jigar turned to go out of the room.
"We will find him Bhabhi. I promise. We will find Ahem Bhai." Gopi looked up to see her devar standing looking determined. She nodded back and gave him a genuine smile this time.

He could hear only silence. The door had clicked shut a few minutes ago. They have gone out again. Ahem waited for a few more minutes not moving, trying to hear even the slightest sounds, trying to confirm that he was alone where ever he was.
His eyes were blindfolded. He could not see but all these years of training to keep himself fit and healthy had come handy. He was fine even after the hit in the head he had taken. His senses were all on alert.
Complete Silence.
Ahem groaned as he pushed himself up with difficulty. The hands tied behind his back made the job much more difficult. But he would get his hands untied this time. He just needed his kidnappers to stay away for sometime.

Dear Diary..
First day. It has been fruitless so far. I told Bhabhi another white lie that Aman had a lead and we would pursue tomorrow. He does not though. There is no trace of Bhai yet. The last person who heard said that it was a day back, that afternoon around 11:00 when he started back from Bhuj. The policeman that Aman introduced, Mr.Patel told us that there was no trace on Bhai's cell phone or our car. How is that possible?
I somehow feel something is wrong somewhere. I do not feel comfortable when Mr. Patel talks. I just do not know why. But he has promised to help find Bhai. That is the most important thing.
Bhabhi has been holding up bravely. I never realized just how strong she was. She broke the barriers with those construction workers today. They helped us trace the final places that Bhai went before he started back. I hope to God that Bhabhi's faith comes true and we get some news about Bhai tomorrow.
I have a mind to contact Rajesh about making some inquiries. His cousin is a cop here in Bhuj, I remember. Maybe I should just do it informally. I will call him up tomorrow.

How long has it been? Ahem hurriedly worked through the tight knots. They may be back any minute. He needed more time.. Time that he did not have. He had to get out. His family, his Gopi would all be worried. And their child. His hands faltered when he realized that Gopi may even now be in the hospital. Will he be able to.. He then stopped the train of his thoughts from going further.
Ahem, blank out the other things from your mind. Concentrate dammit. You have to concentrate. One thing at a time. He chided himself and again set to work. The knots were loosening more and more. His hands were sore with trying to break free. It hurt but he would do it.
I am so so sorry. Come home Ahemji. I love you.
She would be blaming herself. Ahem knew for sure. He could not let her carry that guilt. He would find a way back to her. He had promised. For Gopi, and for their child.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You have to be strong. Whatever happens. Just remember that I am here with you, in your heart, always."
Ahemji... Gopi awoke with a start and looked around. It was another dream. This time like all the other times, it felt so real. Gopi slowly got down from her bed and walked to the side table. Her Kanhaji looked on from there.
"Lead me to my Ahemji. Kanhaji please." Gopi joined her hands in prayer as she pleaded. "We need him. I need him. Please..." She hugged her baby to her praying for her husband, her family and for herself.
It would be a long night. But she would not give up. She knew he was there, close by. He would come back to her. He had promised.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He would have been able to free his hands if there had been another 10 minutes. Ahem cursed in his mind as the noises floated in. They were back. He lay still, without moving. They may check in with him and if they found out, he would have to face the consequences.
He heard no one come in. He would just have to wait again. And lie still for hours.
"... so the boss says we need to have him here for just another day. He says Modi's old mom would not sign those papers today. Something about believing her son is still alive. We should just cut him up if you ask me."
Ahem stilled as he listened hard at the voices coming over.
"Arey, don't say something rash. Boss needs the mighty richie rich's signature on something before we can finally finish him off. If Boss finds out that we stepped out of line, you know what will happen. You will get your chance. Now lets just do what Saab wants."
The voices grew lower but Ahem had heard enough. He had so little time. He had to escape soon.

"That was Aman, my Bhai's business partner. He is calling for me. I have to go, But you will remember to call me if you find anything?" Vrijesh, his friends cousin assured Jigar that he would do everything possible and promised discretion.
"Lets keep it under the wraps ok?" Jigar reminded him once more before cutting the call and going into the hotel to meet Aman.
"Jigar, are you ready? Patel thought we should both go back to the market where Ahem was getting that gift for Bhabhi." Patel nodded his head and added. "Yes Mr. Modi. It would be a good starting point. You two go ahead while I follow up with my team and look into that car they spotted at the checkpost. It may as well have been Mr.Modi's"
Jigar accepted the suggestion and started going towards their room. "Forgot something Jigar? We need to leave immediately." Jigar turned surprised at Aman. "We need to get Bhabhi."
Before Aman could say anything, Patel stepped in. "Mr. Modi, do you think that is wise? I mean, she is pregnant and all this travel.." Jigar frowned. Something about Patel put him off. He did not know why but he did not want to do what Patel said.
"No Mr.Patel. I promised her. She will come with us. I will get her." Jigar walked towards the rooms before either of the men could say anything.

His hands hurt as the blood rushed back to his freed wrists. It took all of his self control to stop himself from making any noise. Ahem carefully rubbed his hands together trying to get over the pain. He needed to see where he was and how he could escape.
Ahem slowly brought his hands up to move the blindfold slightly. He was in an empty, dark room but as his eyes adjusted he could see the light from the other room through the open window.
Ahem carefully sat up and tore the blindfold off completely. He then freed his legs and waited for the blood to flow through and the feeling to return back to his legs. He rubbed them making it a little bit easier.
He had taken a chance but he had been lucky. When the voices died down he had guessed that the men were knocked out after drinking. He took a calculated risk trying to free himself again. It had paid off.
Ahem crept towards the open window and looked out slowly.
His guess had been right. 3 men, all flat on their backs. The rum bottles were scattered around. This was his chance. He may get no other if he hesitated. Ahem made up his mind.

Dear Diary..
I hate to see Bhabhi so sad. She is worried and desperate for news. We just do not have any. Kaki called her up a few minutes ago and they are talking now. I am so glad Kaki called. Gopi Bhabhi needs her mother and she has one in Kaki. Bhabhi needs care. I do not feel right taking her to some places with us. But I see no choice. I do not trust Patel or Aman anymore.
Why did Vrijesh tell me that something is wrong about Aman. I wish he had more details. He could only say that I be careful around Aman and his friends. I am glad when he will come back from that village he had gone to inquire. He may be able to help more. If Bhai was only here.. He will know exactly what to do. I feel lost without him.
And I am afraid for Bhabhi. I will not let her out of my sight. If something happens to her Bhai will never forgive me. I will never forgive myself either.
One thing is for sure though. Bhai is here, in Bhuj. He is alive. I had this sudden conviction today that he is here and it is just a matter of time before he is safe with us. I wanted to laugh and tell Bhabhi. But I did not.
Dear diary.. Wish me best. I need all the luck tomorrow. We are going to someplace Aman says his helpers told him Bhai had visited. I want to find Bhai. I miss him teribly.
Just Come back home Bhai. We are all waiting.

"Maaji, you should take your medicines on time. You know Ahemji will get angry if he finds out that I did not take good care of you." Gopi talked into the phone telling Kokila to take her medicines on time. She heard her maaji's tearful ok. Gopi gave her wishes and told Kokila that she will call the next day.
Just as she was placing the phone down she heard her Maaji again. "Gopi vahu, please come back." Gopi's eyes pooled. Her Maaji never failed to say that before every call ended. "I will Maaji, as soon as I can, with Ahemji." Gopi heard the sigh on the other line. "I know. Take care beta." The call ended and Gopi turned slowly to her Kanhaji on the side table.
"Kanhaji, Please keep Ahemji safe, whereever he is. Devarji is trying so hard. Maaji and all the others are so worried back home. Please help us.."
Gopi closed her eyes, the last prayer of the day said. She fell asleep tired and worried but with hope.

"Ten more steps." Ahem counted each step and as he counted ten he willed himself to walk ten more.
Small targets Ahem. First make small targets, align them to reach the bigger goal. His Kaka's words when he first started out in the Modi's business.
Ahem looked ahead at the long dirt road. He had to somehow reach the highway. He was tired, sore and thirsty but he could not stop. He needed the cover of darkness to escape the goons who may have already found him missing. If only I had my phone.
Ahem remembered his phone falling down in the scuffle when he had been attacked and kidnapped. He had heard it break. It was most probably completely useless where ever it was.
Ahem reached the big boulder he had kept as his target and sat down. Just two minutes. His hands reached into his pocket to take out his wallet. The goons had taken out all the money he had but he still had something more precious than that.
Ahem caressed the photo softly. In the moonlight he could see his family. There they all stood together smiling. His fingers lingered over the girl who stood next to him. His Gopi.
I am on my way Gopi. I will come back as I promised.

"Bhabhi.." Gopi looked at Jigar as he sat next to her in her room. "Bhabhi, are you ready?" Gopi nodded. She slowly got up and Jigar helped her.
"Ahh." Gopi bent a little holding her stomach and Jigar panicked. "Bhabhi, are you alright?" Gopi looked up and smiled softly. "I am fine Devarji. He just kicked." Jigar nodded still worried and both started out.
Just before he opened the door Jigar stopped. "Bhabhi, you remember everything I said?" Gopi nodded. "I will be careful."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"BHAI..?, is that you? Where are you Bhai? We are looking for.." "Jigar.. Jigar.. Stop.." Ahem hurriedly interrupted him. "See Jigar, I need to tell you.." "Bhai, where are you? We are here in Bhuj. Me and Aman and.."
"AMAN? Aman is here with you?" Ahem's voice sounded horrified and desperate. "Jigar, listen. GET AWAY FROM Aman.. Now.. Just tell him something and leave him."
"What?" "Jigar, Don't interrupt me.. Aman is the one who kidnapped me. I found out. I found out that he was cheating us out of the project when I came here to get the papers redone. I confronted him, he laughed and tried to explain but suddenly before I knew it, I was hit on the head, tied and held up with his goons wanting me to sign the project away. He is dangerous. Stay away from him."
"But Bhai, you... Where are you now?" Jigar rushed, his voice low. "Don't worry Bhai, Aman has got to get some water. I am in the car alone with Bhabhi.", Jigar added as an explanation.
Ahem's heart stopped for a second. "Ji..gar.. .Gopi.." "Ahemji.." His voice caught. His Gopi.. Ahem held the payphone tightly as his knuckles turned white. "Gopi.." "Ahemji, we are here. We will come and get you. I.. I love.. you.." She was crying. He could hear it in her voice. Tears pricked in his eyes.
"Gopi.. Shh.. Don't cry. I am coming back..Shh.. Please darling.. Now, give Jigar the phone for a second" Ahem waited a second before Jigar came on line. "Jigar, listen carefully. Take Gopi and leave, Immediately Jigar. Aman is dangerous." "Bhai, I am going to come get you and then we will all leave home together."
"NO.. I want you to get out, go home with Gopi.. Gopi needs to be safe, please Jigar. I.. Aman.. Aman is dangerous and Gopi.." Ahem could not continue. His voice shook in fear as he realized just where Gopi was.
"Bhai.. Aman is returning back. I need to.." "Jigar, Keep Gopi safe. I am in the outskirts of the old Jute factory road. I will find my way back. You have to leave. Promise me.."
The phone line dropped before Ahem could hear Jigar's answer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Jigar, we cannot waste any moment. Mr. Patel will stay here in the room with Gopi Bhabhi. Why do you worry? We have to go now. There is a solid lead. I think we may finally get something positive. You need come with me.."
Jigar schooled his face to hide the distaste he felt standing next to Aman. He looked on steadily and nodded his head. "No Aman. I am not going to leave Bhabhi alone." "She is not alone. Mr. Patel.."
"No Aman. That is final. I know Mr. Patel is here. So why don't you and Mr. Patel go on the search. You can let me know if you find something. I will stay with Bhabhi. She is tired and she needs rest."
Jigar turned Gopi around by her shoulders and slowly started walking away. "Jigar.." The voice was menacing. "We are talking about your brother here."
"I know." Jigar turned around angrily. "He is my brother and I care more about him. So please stop telling me what to do. I am going to be here with Bhabhi, you hear me?" Jigar watched as Aman's face twisted slowly in anger.
Jigar immediately stood in front of Gopi, shielding her as Aman took a quick step forward.
"Don't even think about it." Aman stopped dead at the voice. He slowly turned around to see Ahem standing in the doorway. Vrijesh stood next to him, a small service revolver in hand.
"Mr. Aman, step away from Jigar and Mrs. Modi right now. If you take one more step forward the bullet will leave its place." Aman looked at the door and then at the two men standing blocking the doorway and then at Jigar and Gopi.
"A.. a.., Don't even think about it. Your men have been arrested. We picked them up while they were searching for Mr.Ahem Modi. You are all alone now and as I said, don't try anything stupid. I will use my revolver."
Aman raised his hands in defeat. He knew when he was beaten. Ahem slowly took a step forward to stand right in front of Aman.
"THIS... This is for my family, for making them all worry and for being a traitor. And this one is for cheating us.." Two punches on his stomach and Aman doubled over.
"That is enough Mr. Modi." Vrijesh walked forward to cuff Aman but he had a twinkle in his eyes as he face Jigar and Ahem.
"Thanks Vrijesh." It was Jigar. "No problem Jigar. He was right at the place you messaged us. You two work well together." Vrijesh nodded at Ahem and Jigar while a couple of constables came in to walk Aman off. He then gave them a salute and walked away.
"BHAi.." Ahem found himself in Jigar's arms even before he had time to grin. "I missed you too Jigar.. " Aman smiled and hugged his brother back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I am sorry Ahemji..." His wife stood there still apologizing. Jigar had bid him a gleeful welcome and had gone to his room giving him some privacy with Gopi. There was the family to call and inform too.
Ahem walked towards her and then lifted her chin to make her look into his eyes. "Shh.. It is alright now." He wiped the tears and then hugged her.
Gopi slowly hugged him back and then tightened her hold as she finally relished being in his arms once again. She was finally feeling secure. Her Ahemji was here.
"You should not have come." She heard him whisper and she nodded, her cheek resting on his heart as she heard it beat rhythmically. "No, I had to find you.." She replied and could feel his smile.
"You never fail to surprise me." She heard him say just as the pain kicked it. It was blinding as it was sudden.
"Ahh.. Ahe..ji.." She looked up at the worried face and smiled softly. "Our baby is ready to meet his papa.."
