i am very bad with dates so somebody else will have to help with that but along with diwali you have a couple of other festivals..and SNS usually portrays festivals that Gujaratis celebrate
just before Diwali you have Dhanteras..its considered auspicious to buy jewelry on this day. Then you have Diwali, then Bhaidooj (known as Bhaubheej to Maharashtrians), then you have the new year for Gujaratis...

apart from that you have Makar Sankranti (kite festival), Holi, Raksha bandhan, Janmashtami, Navratri (9 nights) followed by Dassera (10th day)..i may have missed out on some..

Being Gujurati these are the common ones we celebrate

Kite Festival - Jan
Holi - March
Shrivati - Feb or March
Janmasthi - July or August depending on hindu calendar
Ganesh Ji - September
Diwali- October or November
Navarati - October or September

Teej
Dussera
Raskha bahan
Bhaj dhooj

Dates for these Festivals depend on the Hindu Calendar as every yr the calendar changes due to some reason... not sure

With a few exceptions we tend to have the same one's in SA.

No Bhai dhooj though. But we do Raksha Bandhan. Dantheras has also been forgotten. And no Makar Sankranti. We do Navratri but not Dussehra.

Holi is not major here either. And that wife fasting for hubby one. Forgot the name. Non-existent here.

The Hindu calendar is lunar Xar. So dates vary every year. Plus I think India has just about a festival for every day of the year 😃

Thanks for the replies. 😃 Compare that with what we get. 2 Eids, The new year and the prophet's birthday-if we are lucky. And if you are living in the UK in a small pocket? Well it is prayer, prayer, prayer all the way. No colour, no pomp, no ceremony.🤢 Thank God for Christmas! 😃
