there is a lot of furore over Dev's performance as Gopi and my intention is not to start another controversy here..of course i'd like to add that i loved Gia as Gopi which does not mean that i despise Dev..but i think more than the new actress we should be bashing the director!
Dev has acted as Gopi for less than a month and she is facing expectations of replacing an actress who has lived this role for 2 years...not just replacing but to be as good as her...
in one of her interviews she has said that when she was selected she did not know she was going to get the role of Gopi..now i dont want to get into whether that is the actual truth but the way the replacement was done at the most she might have just got a character brief (purely my assumption)..she may have not even seen the show and may not be aware of the character..if you see the Gopi in the first few episodes and the Gopi in the Anita track there is a huge difference..Gia played this character for 2 years and knew Gopi inside out..i didnt like Gia or Nazim in the beginning and i have even seen some real old posts bashing both actors..but they gradually learnt and improved and today we are gushing over the way they look and act..
what i am trying to say through this long rant is that Dev is a really young girl with not much acting experience trying to portray an iconic character...
when a show has been running for 2 years...the characters obviously cant remain the same throughout..there is a character graph..and over the last 2 years the CVs have shown gradual changes in Gopi..she started out as a girl who had zero confidence because of her abused and deprived childhood, hated by her husband, even koki was not good to her in the beginning..gradually she won over her family and gained in confidence and eventually won over her husband too..she was confident enough to fight for her rights as a wife in the Anita track (and i thought she will give up and leave MM!)
isnt it the director's responsibility to guide her and correct her if she is getting her expressions wrong? he knows the character graph and how each character would react in a given situation..
i myself have bashed her coz i really get irritated with her constant scared expression and the way she talks extra slowly but i think the director is the man to blame here!!yes...honest criticism of an actor should be acceptable and allowed and i may still bash her if she sc***s up a scene but maybe we need to consider that she is not taking over a new character.so it is the duty of the director and writers to help her out..
sorry if i have offended anybody...i am all for Gia coming back as Gopi not because i hate Dev but because its difficult to erase 2 years of seeing her as Gopi and she played the role brilliantly...i would say the same for Naz, Rupal and Rucha too...but then the fact is that she is replaced and if it wasnt Dev it would have been someone else taking over...

Exactly.

This is why I'm surprised when people say Devoleena is mimicking Gia. It seemed as if most people overlooked the fact that both Gia and Devoleena played Gopi and were/are given the same instructions from a director.

The director is the one who gives the actors directions and guidance on how to act. So if there is a problem with anyone's acting, the director is at fault somewhere.

But it's easier to point fingers at the people you see on TV rather than the ones who work behind the cameras. This is why the actress faces the criticism instead of the director.

I agree with you that it's up to the director to guide an actor and give them constructive criticism. But it is Also the actors job to do their homework. Devoleena has plenty of epi's that she can watch to see how Gopi has progressed and where she is at.

But you still can't get away with the fact that, in my opinion, she has very poor dialogue delivery and when she cries I can connect with her.

If actor should not be criticised, then director also should not be criticised. After all he gives same instructions to diff. actress. If she is not able to understand the instruction it is not director's fault. If u believe she is very good dancer with great expressions then why director is bashed. For bashing of director, this thread should be closed.I request to mods, please.

Thank you deepa.. for posting this

i was trying to write something on the same lines...

i do feel that the director.. might not have given the right brief and cues about Gopi's character..

at the end of the day,it is the director who has to Okay the shots to be fed to the viewers .,. and if he thought that the scene was not as expected then he could go for 30-40 retakes or even more if he wishes to...and make the actor deliver ... a director cannot take what ever the actor puts up in the scene..he needs to derive what he wants from the actors...

A cook has to be blamed for a bad dish and not the ingredients...

very well said @dipsy 80 👏👏... it ws not a healthy criticism that dev ws facing frm everyone... everyone ws hell bend on harassing that poor lass!!!!! i ve already said in my some posts that cinema or serial, it is 90 % a director's art... that guy shud knw his characters better than anyone.. if one of his actor is not doing well it's completely his responsibility to correct it...as dev s not aware of wat she s doing as she s not grown with the character... but that is not the case with Mr directorji...

if anyone cant take a creative criticism, closing down the thread s not the way!!!!😒
once again @topic creator, that ws a fabulous post 👍🏼

Dear Megaustajalebi and company,
--- Poor director, he is already in honey moon with producer. Why are you giving him hardtime. He just got married and i know he is going thru tough times in his life.
Let's leave our honourable poor director for a while. He will be rewarded by Sharma.
Let's foucs on Dev and her acting. Finally, you have accepted that Dev lack some acting skills. I am glad it is spelled out here. Either she lacks or director lack is big question?
I think, as Gauri said, Director is not changed and only lead role is changed. so, it is obvious that there is a disconnect in passing the message from director to Dev. May be Dev need different approach from director where in she need to be spoon feeded? I am sure that any artist (in that capacity) should be able to deliver the acting at this time of the drama. so, there is some thing missing.
It is fault on the Dev's (accepting this role) and also audition team to chose her for this role.
Finally, viewers are taken for a ride by SNS team.
Again, there is no hardfeeling to anyone.
Queenyuks -- You have all right to close this thread and enjoy.
