Awesome update, Rachna🤗.
Sorry it took me so long to read it. Have been busy, so didn't come online. You know how much I love your story. I wish I could steal your Agni and keep him locked up in my closet. I am glad your exams are over and you can make faster updates.
For me, when I initially start reading an ff/os, SNS characters are always in the back of my mind and I am looking for their characteristics in the written work. But as the story builds, the characters also start taking shape in a different form away from SNS, so these characters become unique to your story. At that point, I don't see the story as an extension of saathiya, but unique in its own with some inspiration from the serial. I am liking the new aggressive Ahemji and a questioning Gopi.

Part 7

Yaaro,
As promised, here's another part. I think it's my favorite out of the other six! If you've been following some of my posts, you'll understand why. Also, I've limited my use of time stamps (as in 'the following morning' and 'that day') purposefully to get to the good stuff, so imagine the events happening over a reasonable period of time. 😃😆

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Recap: When Gopi asks Ahem about Anita, he doesn't answer her questions. Seeing Gopi's altered self, annoys Ahem and in their hotel room, he exercises a mild form of force to make her sleep in the same bed as he. Agni taunts Anita as she thinks about ways to save her hide from Koki. Rashi is unable to tell Jigar about her bouts of dizziness and nausea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Koki walked up the staircase, making her way towards Anita's room, thinking about what she had to do. After all the Modis had done for Anita, she had had the nerve to separate Ahem from Gopi. It wouldn't do anymore to keep her here. Koki had also noticed that ever since everyone had returned from Mumbai, her Gopi vau had been acting a little distant, making Koki wonder whether something had happened there. Koki had wanted to ask her, especially about her promise, but Gopi vau had kept herself busy in her room and Koki hadn't gotten a chance to ask.

Koki knocked on Anita's door sharply. After a five-second wait, Anita opened it. Wide-eyed with fear, she stood at the threshold. "How was your trip to your friend's house?" Koki asked her and then, entered the room without her permission. Anita's mind raced and fumbled for a good reply, but all she could say was "Auntyji, wo...woh main" before Koki interrupted her again. Koki had opened Anita's closet and removed a suitcase from it. "How is she?" Koki casually asked her again. Anita walked up to Koki and took the suitcase from Koki and said, "I have already unpacked, Auntyji. Why are you bothering yourself with--"

Koki, with utmost seriousness, said, "I'm not bothering myself. I'm getting rid of a bother--you. It's time for you to leave. Forever. You lied to me, hoping that first, you'd go to Mumbai, convince Ahem to leave Gopi and accept you and then, return back with him. That was your plan, right? Mera beta tumhe kabhi nahi apnayega, Anita. I've taught him better." Anita watched as Koki placed some of her clothes in the suitcase. Koki asked, as she retrieved more clothes from the closet, "What did Ahem say when you told him that you wanted him? He must've said something. What did he say, Anita?"
When Anita didn't reply, Koki turned towards her frowning. "Your silence answers my questions. I knew even before I came here what his answer was. He is my son after all," she said.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carrying her suitcase, Anita followed Koki downstairs to the living room, where the men were lounging. Gopi was standing with Rashi by the dining table, cutting carrots. Ahem was sitting by Agni and Jigar, opposite Parag and Chirag. Hetal had just served them tea and was leaving. All five stood up, seeing Anita packed and ready to leave. Ahem looked at his mother and then, at Gopi.

"Anita's leaving for New York tonight" Koki told everyone. Chirag and Parag were both confused from her statement. "Beta, why are you leaving" Chirag questioned Anita. "Mota Bhai, it will be better if the reason is not known. You won't like the answer," Koki told him sincerely.

Rashi elbowed Gopi, who looked up. "Woh jaa rahi hai, Gopi!" she said with a big grin. "Who's leaving, Rashiben?" a puzzled Gopi asked. "Anita's leaving! She's finally leaving. I was wondering when a day like this would come. Aur dekho, aaj wo ho bhi gaya," Rashi chirped happily.

Gopi quietly said, "Rashiben, don't--"

"No, you know I don't like her!"

Anita looked at Ahem and then, turned to look at Koki. Furious at Koki's statement and at her own humiliation in front of all the Modis, Anita let her bag drop next to her with a clunk to the floor. Coldly, she said, "I'm not going anywhere, Auntyji. Not without Ahem at least. Ahem can you tell them? I love you and I'm not leaving without you!" "Shut up!" Ahem growled. He was feeling pestered by her presence by the second. "But Ahem, you..." Anita began to say, but Koki turned to Anita and in a sympathetic tone said, "I knew that Ahem would never go back to you. It's you who doesn't understand that he's married, that he has moved on, and that he has no intention to look back again."

Anita, feeling more insulted each passing moment, shrieked in reply, "The only reason he doesn't want to look back is because of Gopi!" And before anyone could realize what was happening, Anita went towards Gopi and Rashi. First, she shoved Rashi away and Rashi, who was standing unguarded, slammed her shoulder into the nearby wall. Groaning in pain, Rashi slid to the floor. Jigar started towards Rashi just as Anita snatched the knife from Gopi's hands. With one hand, she held Gopi's arm and with the other, she held the knife against Gopi's throat.

"Anita!" Agni shouted and then, added, "Are you out of your bloody mind? Let go of Gopiji! In front of so many witnesses? Really?" He wanted to roll his eyes, but refrained from doing so. He would look insensitive, but he personally had a low tolerance for stupidity.

"No, I'm perfectly sane, my dear Agni Jadeja." Anita retorted with loaded sarcasm. Ahem took a step towards Anita, furious at her for attempting to hurt Gopi. "Anita, leave Gopi out of this! She's never done you harm and here, you're--" he began.

Anita gripped Gopi tighter, saying "Stop, right there!" When Ahem took another step towards Gopi, Anita nicked Gopi's throat. Gopi winced and tried to stop her tears, but Anita held her still. Ahem froze and waited. "Police ko phone kiya toh dekh lena! I will slit her throat. Now, I don't even have anything to lose, Ahem" Anita spat angrily.

Agni scratched his head as he thought. He saw Swami entering the house with a bottle of water in his hand. He looked around quickly. Hetal was holding on to Koki's arm. Parag and Chirag had paused next to Meethi. Gopi was bound by the knife at her throat. Rashi sat by the wall, close to passing out. Jigar was busy worrying over his wife. Ahem had been asked to remain still.

"Swami, I'm thirsty! Can I take that water?" Agni said nonchalantly. Anita eyed them warily as Swami handed Agni the bottle.

Ahem wanted to box Agni's ears. Here, Gopi was in danger and he was asking for water. "Anita, I'm begging you please let Gopi go!" he pleaded. "Is this how you want to repay us for our favor? We weren't obligated to bring you here, but we did. And this is what you do? What has Gopi ever done to you? She doesn't even harm a damn cockroach!" he added, catching at straws in desperation and hoping that guilt might change her mind.

Meanwhile, Agni sat down on the floor, pretending exhaustion. Swami stood befuddled both at the situation and at his employer who seemed unaffected. Lawyers, he thought dryly. He could never understand them even after being employed with the Jadejas for several years. Agni watched as Ahem continued to plead with Anita. Nothing seemed to be working, until something clicked--literally.

Anita's foot shifted and her high-heeled shoe clicked against the tiled floor. As slyly as possible, Agni poured water from the bottle towards the floor near Anita's feet.

"I know, she hasn't done anything, but she is the reason that you haven't accepted me" Anita was telling Ahem.

Another click.

Agni eyed Anita's foot and then, looked at a terrified Gopiji.

Ahem looked at Agni and scowled. Agni was of no use, he thought. He had to try again, so Ahem took a tiny step towards Gopi. The knife touched the nicked place and Gopi cried out. Hetal shrieked too and Koki was teary-eyed.

"Don't test me, Ahem. Do you remember the time I was going to drive us both off the cliff? Remember that and still your feet." she asked icily.

Click. Click.

Agni felt like his plan was failing, so without thinking, he reached for Gopi, catching everyone unaware. In panic, Anita tried to pull away both Gopi and herself. Her shoe's heel hydroplaned on the water Agni had poured on the floor and she lost her balance, falling backwards. Her grip on Gopi loosened as she fell and Ahem sprung to grab Gopi before Anita could get a hold of her.

(Note: I made an elementary sketch of this scene to show the character placements. I hope you all get a better sense of how this scene enfolded. I personally got a kick out of it as I made it! 🤣)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anita was flattened on her stomach on the floor by the dining table. On top of her bum, sat Agni, fiddling on his phone out of boredom. He turned to look at her and then, grinned. "So how does it feel to be pinned down to the floor and be left at the mercy of a strong and beautiful man?" he asked. She struggled, but against his weight, she was helpless. "You know that I'm a lawyer, right? And I have fought some very difficult cases, but I won't fight for you. The police are on their way. Bahot shaadi shaadi khelti thi na? Le jayenge police tumhe tumhara sasural."

Within 20 minutes, the Rajkot police had arrived. The Modis filed an FIR against Anita with charges of attempted murder and the police took her away.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the living room, Rashi sat on the couch, rubbing her shoulder and Jigar stood in front of her, still worrying. He had pulled her up from by the wall and helped her up when Agni had managed to pin Anita down. "Are you okay" he asked, worried that she might have seriously hurt her shoulder. Rashi looked up and then, attempted a weak smile, saying, "I'm fine, Jigarji. I'm bruised, but absolutely fine." She stood up, but her head spun dark and she fainted in her husband's arms. Her head lolled backwards as he pulled her upright against his chest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Koki bandaged the small nick on Gopi's neck as Ahem watched. Even before he could ask Gopi whether she was alright, his mother had come and began hovering around his wife. For the umpteenth time, Koki asked, "Gopi vau, tum tikh ho? Are you really okay?" His wife assured his mother every time, but nothing seemed to solidify his mother's worry. "I'm fine, Maaji" Gopi said again. Koki touched Gopi's cheek and then, smiled slowly. "I was just too scared that she would really hurt you. I'll go check on Rashi now. Hetal is already there, but by now, the doctor must be coming" Koki told Gopi.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Rashi? Rashi jaan?" Rashi heard Jigarji softly saying her name and opened her eyes. She saw Jigarji's face first and then, saw Hetal's. Attempting to smile made her head woozy, so she closed her eyes again. Jigarji spoke again, "The doctor is on his way, Rashi."

Within a few minutes, the doctor came. Jigarji refused to leave during the check-up, but the lady doctor, Dr. Ambani, insisted and he had to give in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ahem sat on the sofa in his room, pretending to be engrossed in reading a file's contents. He was more interested in what was going on in his wife's head. She was sitting on the bed, tracing the embroidery of the bed sheet and looking up at the door every 5 seconds or so to see whether someone was coming. Finally, she stood up, determined to go to her sister's room. "You're in no shape to go visit Rashi, Gopi" he told her, without looking up. The way she looked at him, as if he was a blackheart out to suck every happiness from her life, nagged at his heart and he changed his mind. "Okay fine, but I'll go with you" he told her.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Ambani came out just as Gopi and Ahem had reached Rashi and Jigar's room. Jigar went up to her immediately, but before he could question her about Rashi's health, Dr. Ambani smiled.

"Congratulations, Mr. Modi. Mrs. Modi is expecting," she told him happily.

Jigar stood baffled in place and it wasn't until Hetal shook him that he snapped out. "You heard what she just said, Maa?" Jigar asked. Hetal nodded happily, saying "Haan! Tum Papa banne waale ho! Jigar ke Papa, aap Dada banne waale hai! Kokila..."

As everyone congratulated Jigar, Gopi made her way inside Rashi's bedroom. Seeing her older sister sleep peacefully made her smile and so Gopi sat on the bed, next to Rashi. Sensing someone's presence, Rashi opened her eyes. Gopi took Rashi's hand in her own two hands and squeezed it, saying "Rashiben, how are you feeling now?" Mumbling, Rashi said, "I feel exhausted, Gopi." Rashi saw Gopi's smiling face and didn't understand why Gopi was so happy. "What happened?" she asked Gopi, but Gopi shook her head slowly and smiled.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So when I was on my anti-Anita crusades, I had predicted that Anita would be the first to die in SNS. After reading Part 7, I'm sure you all thought that I was lenient with her. Yes, I think that too, but I had also predicted that she would slip on her pink stiletto and fall backwards down a cliff. I made some of it happen in this part and that is why it's my favorite. It also serves as a reminder: TV might show us great things, but it has its share of sadness too. In these dire times, remember that our imagination is one of the most beautiful pieces of creation ever made, surpassing even the greatest of computers. On this thoughtful note, I am going to bed. 😳Raji fans--I hope I haven't disappointed you. I assure you there willl be more Raji in the next part!

Sorry Rashi, I couldn't give you a hint. I wanted to as it's not in my nature to keep others miserable, but I had to keep it a suspense. They should move Raji's relationship forward too, I agree.
