A radiant morning. A start of a new relation. A handsome couple making love over and over again. They looked like a couple made in heaven. It seemed so true that God's delays are not always God's denials
It was way past lunch time when Ahem finally fell asleep and Gopi sneaked out to prepare lunch. She was still considering if she should make an elaborate lunch of just a simple one meal dish, when Ahem materialized from nowhere and snaked his arm around her waist. "Have I told you lately that I love you" he asked her in a husky seductive tone. All Gopi managed was a nod of head indicating a "NO". "I love you Jaan" Ahem tried to kiss her again, however Gopi gently deflected the kiss saying that she had to cook. Ahem urged her to make a simple lunch and nothing for dinner. "We are going on a date tonight" he whispered lovingly into her ears.
Ahem could not remember when the last time he did not work on a Saturday, but he promised himself, that this Saturday will be the first of hundreds of Saturdays he would spend with his family and more than everyone else his wife.
A simple lunch that was made special, Ahem refused to eat with his hands and insisted Gopi feed him. No not with the spoon, with your hands he indicated. An exhilarated Gopi could not contain herself and gave in to all of Ahem's whims and fancies. While Gopi fed him and herself Ahem teased and tickled her, caressed and fondled her.
Ahem had not planned anything specific for the evening, he wanted to spend time with her; he wanted to talk to her. He wanted her to be comfortable with her. He stacked his car with his favorite music CD's and they were ready to go.
Somewhere along the way "Woh Kagaz Ki Kashti, Who Barish Ka Pani" by Jagjit and Chitra Singh started playing. (For people who are not familiar with Who Kagaz Ki Kashti – it's a song which glorifies childhood). Ahem's face lit up and he started telling Gopi of his growing up days. He loved plucking mangoes, climbing trees, playing cricket. He was a great Cricket fanatic, but stopped watching cricket after the match fixing scams. Ahem had he initially wanted to become an engineer but on his mom's insistence decided to concentrate on business. He did not regret his decision as he realized along the way that he was a born entrepreneur. "Somewhere along the way, I don't know when, Gopi, I only took pleasure in work. I cannot remember when was the last time I watched a movie, I have not played Gully cricket for a long time." He parked the car and took her hand in his. "Gopi please bring back the balance in my life. I want to enjoy the small pleasures in our lives." Gopi's angelic smile re-assured Ahem, that his life was changed for the better.
Gopi and Ahem drove until the wee hours of the morning. After much probing from Ahem, Gopi shared her childhood. Life was challenging with loads of housework – cooking, cleaning, filling water from the common tap in Rajpal Nagar, ironing and be at the back and call of Rashi Ben and Mami. She was not afraid of hard work as she felt her Kanhaji made her work load lighter. She could not remember how and when she Kanhaji became her friend. She credited Kanhaji for always standing by her even in her worst times.
There were good times too, when Mamiji was in a good mood and let her watch the few movies that she had watched in her life. Her favorite were Khoobsurat (staring Rekha) and Chupke CHupke (staring Dharmendra and Amitab Bachan). Gopi mentioned given a chance she would want to watch these movies over and over again. They laughed their hearts out discussing both these movies. Ahem caressed her cheeks and lovingly smiled at her. "We will watch it together. These are my favorite movies too".
When they finally got home with the rising sun, they realized that they were so engrossed in each other to remember food, sleep or rest. Gopi rushed to the kitchen to fix a quick breakfast while Ahem made their bedroom cozy for their union post breakfast. He wrote a note for Gopi in their bedroom before joining her for breakfast.
Ahem's new policy was that Gopi should feed him whenever they were alone. He had to concentrate on more important things – her curves. He had ignored them for such a long time and had to make up for lost time. A blushing Gopi was more than happy to give in to his demands.
She reddened as she read his note left on the bed, "Gopi darling I will join you five minutes, please take off your sari and wait for me. Eagerly waiting to make love to you. Yours Ahem". They fell asleep but not before making passionate love.
"Ahemji, what do you want to wear tomorrow to office". "First of all I am not AhemJi, I am Ahem to you. In the future I will not answer if you add that "JI" to my name. Secondly the whole family is enjoying themselves and why do I have to go to work my dear wife JI". "That is precisely why you have to go to work AhemJi – Ahem. "Okay I will go to office and concentrate on my work, only if you make it special for me". "How AhemJi?" He glared at her "How Ahem?". "You will bring my lunch to office every day until the family returns? You will feed me. We will go out on dates whenever I want. Jaan, we will not get this solitary environment for a long time. Let's make the best of it." How could anyone deny the darling, pleading Ahem.
The employees noticed a changed boss. A happy jovial Ahem was talk of the office. How could the staff not notice the closed door lunch meetings Ahem had with his wife. Ahem was turning out to be a hopeless romantic. He would miss Gopi every now and then and call her at his fancy. Gopi gently reminded him that she wanted to bring a balance to his life and not be a cause of his distraction. He would reassure her that she was his motivation and not a distraction. "Gopi previously I worked and worked to earn money and more money, from now on I will make to make us happy and successful. Don't you worry Gopi your Ahem will never slack in his work. Love you Jaan"
Both Ahem and Gopi were indoor people, they did not prefer outdoor dinners, movies etc. They loved watching movies in the privacy of their home. As promised they watched Khoobsoorat and Chuke Chupke together. Ahem introduced her to the world of Hollywood movies too. They watched "Singing in the Rain" Ahem painstakingly translated the movie dialogue by dialogue. Gopi realized that her education was far from over and she would have to practice use of English language if she wanted to enjoy many things Ahem enjoyed.
They were lazing on the bed one night after a tiring love making session when Ahem, introduced Gopi to the world of Poems. He read the following poem and dedicated it to the saying that the girl in this poem reminded her of Gopi.
The Solitary Reaper By William Wordsworth |
BEHOLD her, single in the field,
Yon solitary Highland Lass!
Reaping and singing by herself;
Stop here, or gently pass!
Alone she cuts and binds the grain, | 5 |
And sings a melancholy strain;
O listen! for the Vale profound
Is overflowing with the sound.
No Nightingale did ever chaunt
More welcome notes to weary bands | 10 |
Of travellers in some shady haunt,
Among Arabian sands: | |
A voice so thrilling ne'er was heard
In spring-time from the Cuckoo-bird,
Breaking the silence of the seas | 15 |
Among the farthest Hebrides.
Will no one tell me what she sings?—
Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow
For old, unhappy, far-off things,
And battles long ago: | 20 |
Or is it some more humble lay,
Familiar matter of to-day?
Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain,
That has been, and may be again?
Whate'er the theme, the Maiden sang | 25 |
As if her song could have no ending;
I saw her singing at her work,
And o'er the sickle bending;—
I listen'd, motionless and still;
And, as I mounted up the hill, | 30 |
The music in my heart I bore,
Long after it was heard no more. |
He translated the poem and compared her to the Solitary reaper. Gopi like the lady in the poem was lonely yet spread happines. "Gopi your heart ached, but you always made sure, you always spread hope and love to everyone around you. Thank you for being my wife – Gopi Ahem Modi. Love you a lot. From now on you I will always be by your side. I will make sure all our dreams come true. "
Time flew and the two weeks were over. The family was to return the next day.
No fancy hotel room, no exotic destination, yet Goham had the most beautiful honeymoon that any newlywed endeavors'.
