7 yrs ago..Ahem adapts

Ahem barely tolerated Gopi's presence at MM and he wanted to get away from her and that's why he decided to look after the African wing of Modi industries. Ahem adapted well to the new environment and made the operations successful. He used to talk to his mom and Kaka daily but he made it a point to never talk about Gopi. Neither did he ask for news about Gopi nor did his family volunteer any information...seven years passed by ...

One afternoon he received a call from his secretary that an accident occurred at one of the construction sites and an engineer called Mohammed has been hospitalised. Ahem immediately left for the hospital. Mr Mohammad wasn't in a serious state and he was still conscious but Ahem could see a woman crying inconsolably, she was stopping doctors and nurses to enquire about the patient's health. She looked bewildered when the doctor was telling her some medical terms. Ahem was told by his secretary that the woman was Mohammad's wife and even though she was illiterate she chose to come with her brothers to the hospital and talk to the doctors. She didn't know that whats is exactly wrong with her husband but she was seen insisting doctors to give him her blood. Ahem was moved by the woman's dedication to her husband.

Ahem's thought suddenly went to Gopi. Wasn't she too like this woman? Aham thought about the love she had for him and how he rejected all that. Ahem was taught the meaning of marriage by the Nigerian couple. Ahem resolved to go back to India and improve his relationship with Gopi. He spoke aloud- Gopi I never again leave you. He called his mom and after the initial exchanges he asked him Mom about Gopi. Koki was taken aback, she didn't know what to tell him...and why on earth is he asking it after 7 years. Koki mumbled that she is fine. Ahem wanted to surprise them all by an unannounced visit. Ahem booked tickets and thought aloud that seven year itch destroys marriages whereas this seven year separation has breathed life into his marriage.

The ever confident Ahem had no doubt in his mind about Gopi's acceptance and imagined Gopi's reaction to his arrival. He thought about his marriage throughout the flight back to India.

Unfortunately she is still his wife...legally she has committed bigamy but since Aham and Gopi never consummated their marriage and he deserted her for 7 years so they can seek an annulment...

Yash saw a caterpillar on his favourite rose plant and shouts Ma Ma come here...sooon...quickly.

Gopi thinks that he has got hurt and runs for him. She gets surprised to find Yash trying to hold the caterpillar, she shouts at him but he smiles and tells Mom can we collect these and make winter clothes for Prachi? Gopi says eeks you guys are horrible. Nalin joins them and lovingly puts his arms around them and says No Gopi all the guys in my family are really good, especially those whose names starts and ends with N...Gopi could figure out who he was referring to.

They heard their neighbour's son walking around while trying to byheart a hindi poem for his unit test on Monday...he went on repeating the first stanza and Gopi smiled at his efforts, however the next stanza wiped off her smile. It went like this-

Aao hum sab apne ahem ko bhool ke...

that kid suddenly came near the compound wall and asked Aunty can you tell me... Nalin interrupts him and tells him Aunty kisko kah raha hai tu and starts laughing...Gopi was still serious. The kid now told Nalin anna can you please tell me what is the meaning of this word- Aham...I didn't write it down in class..Nalin started explaining but Gopi almost ran into the house.

She hadn't thought about Ahem for a long long time and she was under the impression that she has moved on...but no...she was shocked at the effect his name still had on her. She started chanting Krishna Krishna to divert her mind, she was praying to God to overcome the pain and move on with her life ( silently)...Nalin entered the room and heard her chant and teased Gopi by asking her " Gopi who is this Krishna? Is he my rival? Should I be worried?"

Nalin walked away laughing.

Aham arrived in Rajkot and took a cab to MM. He was expecting smiles on the faces of everybody. He rang the bell and smiled. Meethi opened the door and was surprised to see Aham at the door. Aham sees nobody around and asks Meethi about his Mom. She tells that his parents have gone to a temple. Chirag and Jigar have gone to office and Rashi has gone to a spa. Ahem was waiting for her to say something about Gopi so he said- aur sab kahan hai?

Meethi told that Mota Bhabhi is in her room and he can go and meet her. Aham was miffed with Meethi but he thought that she must be helping Hetal in her room. He hurried to Hetal's room.

Aham was shocked the moment he entered Hetal's room..he felt as if heaven and earth have switched places. Hetal, who was engrossed with a book saw Ahem quite late and was shocked to see him- surprised at his sudden arrival and surprised at the look on his face. It took her some time to figure out the cause of Aham's shock. It was a photo hanging on a wall of room. It was a photo of a beaming Gopi in a green saree( sans pallu and looking modern) ,a man and two kids were with her. It didn't take Ahem long to derive a conclusion from it.

Meanwhile, Kokila had returned and Meethi told her about Aham's arrival and she rushed into Mota bhabhi's room. She too realised what had shocked her dhikra...Aham never ever thought that Gopi would move on. He thought that Gopi would wait for him till eternity...and now there she was..happy with another man...

Aham took 30 minutes to regain his composure. His shock gave way to anger. He was angry at Gopi because he thought that she had cheated him..he was angry at his family members for hiding the news from him. He knew that they had supported Gopi in getting married to that jerk and that's why they had hidden the information...that's why Hetal framed the photograph. He wondered why WHY even Kaka and Jigar kept him the dark.

Ahem shouted and cried loudly. He threw the decorative pieces and wondered - kaun apne hai aur kaun paraye. He wanted to know the details, he rushed to his mother and asked her to tell the details...Kokila told it all. She told him that Gopi is now in Bangalore but she doesn't know her address. He then went to Hetal and asked her for Gopi's phone number and address.

Hetal snapped and told him that he had ruined Gopi's life and now that she has a family and is enjoying her life why does he want to snatch even that from that girl?

Aham groaned "that girl is my wife. ?I will have her at any cost" . No one can get away with cheating Aham Modi.

Ahem took a few weeks to digest the fact that Gopi is no longer his. Koki didn't offer him any suggestions because she knew that he has to cope in his own way. Ahem started going to work after three weeks. Even though he had threatened to snatch Gopi from her new husband, he didn't carry out the threat, much to the relief of everybody. Ahem could not come to terms with the fact that he has been cuckolded. He started hating women and Kokila too realised that getting him remarried isn't possible. Everybody wanted to retain status quo so no one interfered with Ahem's life now. They knew that Gopi would be the victim if they accidentally provoke Ahem.

One day Aham had to meet a client at a hotel near his house so he decided to come home early for lunch. He saw a pile of mails on a table and went through them, a purple envelope caught his eye. It looked like a greeting card and it was addressed to Hetal, Ahem was about to keep it back when something else caught his eye and he immediately kept it in one of his folders. He took it to his room and closed the door and opened the envelope carefully so that the address is not torn.

It was a birthday card for Hetal sent by Mrs.Gopi Nalin Shetty. Ahem wrote the address on a slip and kept the card in his cupboard. Ahem cancelled all his appointments for the day. He was in no position to work. All his thoughts were captured by Gopi. He wanted to see her once. He could not believe that she has completed M.A through an open university. The letter in the envelope even told that she has got a job now. Gopi had praised Nalin's and his Mom's encouragement. This thought stuck in his head like a bullet. How could she praise Nalin when it was he - AHEM MODI who made her literate- thought her alphabets. Ahem felt cheated of his due share of love. He wanted to see Gopi and confront her about her decisions. He deserved an answer because in the eyes of law she was his wife.

Ahem hired a detective agency and came to know about Gopi's routine, her workplace etc. Armed with all the information he wanted, he left for Bangalore, his bag had two important things- a box of Sindhur and Gopi's mangalsutra which she had left behind in MM.

Ahem reached Bangalore- one step closer to her- he rolled up his sleeve and saw the tatoo on his arm- it read Gopi.A.Modi.

It will bring an emotional storm. Don't know who will be effected.
