Absolutely agree with you. I also think that after he knew about her illiteracy, everything she did (good and bad) was masked behind that flaw of hers that wasn't her doing. He stopped treating her like a human after that and that was most unfair because she was never treated well in her Mama's house either. He could have played the friendship card way before the education track because you don't need to be equals in friendship. Just like Krishnaji and Sudama, Dron and Drupad etc friendship doesn't value itself on literacy or wealth or lifestyles. He just didn't want to be associated with her because he felt that he had married "down" instead of marrying "up". I will also say that Rashi's kalakaries had a definite impact on his opinion of Gopi. The prophecy he had about Gopi not worth the title of being Mrs. Modi was fulfilled whenever Gopi got into trouble and his belief became even stronger. Additionally, he felt out of control because everything happening around him wasn't happening according to his choices. He didn't want to marry Gopi and he unwillingly had to break up with his girlfriend. For a guy who is prideful, arrogant and a control-freak (with a temper problem), he felt powerless. However, even after saying all that, I have to say that no one deserves to be treated like the way he treated Gopi--making her sleep on the floor, he's a millionaire and if he really wanted to, he could have brought in that daybed way before, yelling at her for no reason, using her as an outlet for his frustration, belittling her, emotional abuse, calling her names etc...just horrible things...aaah...now, I'm gonna have to watch the recent videos of him to make myself forget what he has done in the past. He has a long way to go still and I think the biggest punishment he'll get is when Gopi without thinking, without hesitation, and without blinking will forgive him. That is the blow that will shatter his arrogance and his pride and bring him down back to earth and give him some humility.
