It does sound strange, not scared of a snake but afraid of a mouse, but if you think about it, Gopi was scared of the snake her facial expressions, it took her a while to build up the courage to grab it and throw it to the side, she spoke to Aham not to move, then gathered herself to come closer, than went on her knees and prayed to Kanaji (also it was on temple grounds, she had the conviction that her god would not let anything happen to her on that sacred ground), when she had sufficient courage she quickly grabbed it with the left hand and chucked it away to her right side (it all happened quickly).

Like i'm terrified of lizards and spiders, bees, but when kids that i'm looking after are afraid and screaming giving me a headache Auntie Auntie it's going to bite, I just take some kitchen paper and scrunch whatever it is with my fingers or use an envelope to guide it out the window etc, though inside i feel squeamish, as i'm an adult, I try to control these reactions and keep my face stony to reassure the kids that all is in hand. However if it was a snake, i would definitely not touch it, I would just grab the person away, if it bit the person, I would then just go to hospital.
