Introduction:
The Srivastav Family.
"Jhoom barabar jhoom barabar jhoom barabar jhoooooom"
Opening her eyes wide, Saloni Srivastav pushed her silk bedsheet off of her, and jumped up on her bed, shaking out her cotton PJs and singing loudly along with her radio.
Screeching the tune, she jumped all over her bed, dancing and jiving along with the upbeat tune, one her latest favourites. That's when she saw the time! She was late…very late!
"9?!!!!"
Squealing, she hopped off her bed, grabbing her towel and racing into her bathroom. Today she didn't even have time for the usual bubble bath and scented soak, she had to rush. Hurriedly bathing, then began grabbing at her office clothes, brushing her hair and trying to put on mascara…That was a mess!
The brush got stuck in her long, black silky hair, causing her to tug hard at it, stumble forward, trip on her pants and land in a heap on her bed…not the morning she had planned!
"MAAAAAA" she screamed as her mother, Ambika walked in, carrying a tray laden with breakfast for her daughter.
"Beta, itne subah subah kyun chila rahi ho?"
(Child, why are you screaming so early in the morning?) said her mother, trying hard not to laugh at her beautiful daughter, tangled in a mess on her bed.
"Mummy…dekho na. Hayee…ab kyaa karu
?(Just see mummy…now what am I going to do?) I'm late! I have an important bid to attend today and the last thing I wanted to be was LATE!!" she whined, sitting up and trying to untangle her pants, and get the brush out of her hair.
Laughing, her mother set down the tray and came towards her. She took the brush from her daughter's hands and easily untangled it, combing out her hair and then kissed her on her forehead.
"Thanks mum" Saloni said, smiling as she stood up, pulling her pants, a grey with very tiny pin stripes, up. They fit snug, giving her a sexy, feminine look; after all, it was made for her especially, Prada. She moved towards her cupboard to get her white shirt and jacket to complete her outfit.
"Ahem"
She turned to her mom and saw the shirt and jacket in her hands. Grinning again she grabbed it, thanked her and put on her stuff. Moving to her mirror, she applied some lip gloss and a little kohl. Simple and natural, that was her style. Donning a simple charm bracelet, gifted by her best friend, Bani Walia
(Author's note: It's my signature move to have them together! LOL), she grabbed her purse, slipped on her shoes and headed towards the door.
"Beta, mein ek baat kahoon?" Her mother asked. She was trying to hold back a laugh, and that caused Saloni to suspect her.
"Ji?"
"Um..well…you see…Last night I saw you working really hard on that project for today, and I knew you had the bidding at 9…and I also knew that you might need a little head start…so…I set your clock 2 hrs ahead…so…it's technically not 9:20 now…it's 7:20… sorry beta" her mother hung her head, trying not to laugh at her daughter's expression.
Chancing a peep, she saw Saloni wearing a mock angry expression and then burst out laughing , hugging her mum and sighing with relief.
"Acha, mummy, Samar kahan hai?
(Mummy, where is Samar?) Did he leave for the office yet? I mean…I discovered something really important for us to succeed in the bid and I need to tell him, bhabi and Shubrah." Saloni relaxed, taking a dosa from the tray, sipping on some tea and taking her time to go through the file on her night stand.
"Samar and Kaveri left for the office already. Kaveri has an important presentation at 8:30 with the German clients and Shubrah is in her room getting ready."
Okay…well, I'll leave now. I want to go inform the rest of the team about this little discovery and re-construct our plans. Bye ma" she kissed her mom, took her stuff and headed out of her room and down the grand marble staircase and to the living room.
"Papa aaj mujhe aap ke ashirwaad chahiye, iss bidding ke liye"
(Daddy, today i want you blessings for this bidding). she smiled, bending to touch her father's feet and receive his blessings. Smiling and blessing his daughter, Narpat told her that he had full faith in her and wished her all the best in this new acquisition.
"Shubrah!!! Jaldi chalo!" She called out for her younger sister, who came two minutes later down the stairs, dressed to kill in a black ensemble, matching Versace purse and DG sunglasses pushed up in her hair. Shubrah was all about style and class, not that Saloni was any different, but Saloni was more subtle and sophisticated with her look, being the eldest of the three.
Taking her father's blessing as well, the sisters pulled their sunglasses down over their eyes, got into the waiting car and headed towards their head office, Srivastav Corp. in the middle of the Mumbai business sector.
