Band Baaja Baaraat To Re- Release
easier said than done...she's brought up in environment where she has always been insulted...she is submissive... but I do hope her character does find some inner strength to fate her "fate"...
I don't find anything wrong with Saloni's character. Right now she is whiny yes, but she wants to respect everybody.
Now that everyone, including Aabji and Neel have turned from her, even her fathers sister, I think she might take up that offer the judge at the Singing contest offered. She will become a stronger person, realize that she CAN stand up for herself, and she will fight back. She has grown up in an enviroment where she is always looked down upon, and where her opinions on ANYTHING don't matter.
It is hard for her to stand up for herself when she might face even more troubles.
I hope she takes the singing offer. She will become famous and then she will show her family what she is made of, especially her ugly bhabi and even uglier sister🤢!!!

I agree with you indygirl!! I hope her character becomes stronger with time.. Instead of telling the truth to Aapji, she keeps saying "Oh, let me speak". 😡 I also can't stand people like this who allow themselves to be doormats..I mean she is a talented, educated girl, why the hell deos she not go out to work and why on earth does she allow people to make it appear that marriage is the be all and end all of life!! She does finally tell her dad that she does not want to marry but she should have done it long back.. And taken some steps to show that she can be independent and not be dependent on a man for everything and put her foot down against dowry😡 😡. Of course her family is to blame big time for making it appear that she is a burden - not encouraging her to pursue a career, making it appear that being dark skinned is bad (though she is much prettier than Shubhra) and basically being narrow minded with the usual girl-being-pariah-dhan concept 😡 😡 😡 and making it appear that getting married is the most important thing in life and encouraging this dowry business (something I detest big time)..Ufff. I can go on and on but I am glad it is going to take a right about turn with Saloni discovering her own talent and pursuing a career and becoming famous.. Kudos to her.
Maybe I feel so strongly about this because I am against all this BS - Dowry, girl-being-pariah-dhan and also believe that talents ought o be channelized and one can't just get married for the heck of it.. So, when I see all this in an educated middle class family, it just makes me wonder.

I also agree with Indygirl and xyzzee...i do feel that her character will get stronger with time, but the level of pathos that the serial is trying to convey is frankly very 'trying.'

I feel that it is the lack of confidence that comes hand-in-hand with being tread upon your whole life. I know women like that and these are the women who dont have a self-identity - true not only for indian women but others also. These are the girs that will take upon the characteristics of people they live around. An example - A girl who will say that she likes what the other person likes. I have a friend, who is dating a guy who has a lot of tattoos all over his body. She had one small tattoo on her back before she started going out with him. They have been together for over a year now and i know that they are serious about each other. The guy is real sweet also. Now she has like 5 tattoos on her body - and big ones at that. There is no self-identity at all!!!!
She does finally tell her dad that she does not want to marry but she should have done it long back.. And taken some steps to show that she can be independent and not be dependent on a man for everything and put her foot down against dowry😡 😡.
I dont think that she realizes her potential especially because it seems that they are in an over-protected household. And everytime she wants to do something for herself, she is thwarted/insulted/beaten up!!!

I think that they have shown Saloni to be pretty simply because it is TV serial. However, even ifshe was ugly along with being dark-skinned, she should still be pursuing her beliefs and career rather than fall for this whole "paraya-dhan" and "dowry" concepts. I feel that the parents that give dowry should be liable to end up in jail just lke the parents that receive it - its only fair because it is such behavior that encourages the social evils. Its a pure demand/supply concept. If there is no supply, the demand will eventually die out. And on a cost-benefit analysis level, if the cost of giving/receiving dowry is jail time and fines, the "benefit" of getting "rid of your daughter"😡 will be overshadowed.
I can go on and on but I am glad it is going to take a right about turn with Saloni discovering her own talent and pursuing a career and becoming famous.. Kudos to her.
Yeah, but by showing this Dickensian tragedy, the show has already lost the respect of some viewers (at least three-four people that i know).

I agree completely...i used to feel that this was purely an eastern concept - getting the daughter married and all, but i have learnt over time that it holds true everywhere. Not so much the dowry - but wedding costs, etc does compare. It stems from weaker people looking for a reason to blame their own failures on - and a marriage supposedly gives you a partner that "witnesses your life" and takes the blame!!! I completely dislike marriages like that😡

True, of course she should pursue her beliefs regardless of her looks. The reason I mentioned about her looks is - I don't believe skin colour and prettiness go hand in hand.. And being pretty I don't think she should find it difficult to find a 'nice' guy (since many guys do consider that as an important criteria) besides other qualities..And yes, dowry takes should get no less punishment than jail.😡

It is not an eastern concept and I have realized that after I came here to the US. I know many girls do not take up Engineering here in the US because that is not considered a 'cool' subject for girls and that is not a good subject for wooing guys (don't mean to generalize but there are cases where I have seen that). In fact I feel in India if a girl has encouragement from family, etc.. they can do great as far as career is concerned..I have worked in India too and never ever found that being a girl is detrimental to my promotions, etc. in office..But yes, wherever it is, such marriages are disgusting..
