Hi All,

Saath Phere is based on color discrimination. In some parts of the country having a dark color or complexion seems to be a sin especially for women.

What is your thoughts? Should this continue? When it comes to you, are you biased or think, you don't care for such things, what means the most is the person's inner heart and soul.

There are more things we can pen down. Please post your thoughts and let the discussion begin!

I think colour discrimination sucks! Why should a person with fair skin be treated better than someone with dark skin. We are all human and we all have the same colour blood running through our veins. Beauty is only skin deep, inner beauty is a lot more important because it is your heart and soul. It is who you are as a person.

Hi all
Colour discrimination is there otherwise we would not have a multi crore industry manufacturing fairness creams and dadi's nuskhas. I come from North India and area where people are fair but have stayed in the south, what i found out is people everywhere love fair skin. In south India education and other accomplishments are equally stressed. Then I also observed most of their heroines are fair. I think prejudices get entrenched when a society also encourages it, we have movies and other media helping or encouraging this bias.
I had many friends who envied fair colour and wanted to try different products to get the wheatish complexion now this is also a very Indian expression it is neither dark nor fair. In newspapers the matrimonial columns too stress gori complexioned bride, at this rate we would really have no place for people having darker tones. Personally I have no problem with colour, infact I like the bronze tone and yes Saloni the character has lovely colour I think it is beautiful. I think they achieved it with makeup. Colour is of no consideration it is your inner qualities that matter, qualities of head and heart make the person we are and it can be worked upon. There are several harmful chemicals in fairness creams but this issue gets deflected.

however modern and civilized we become, there is this obsession with white skin which rarely leaves us. i am not saying everyone but most of us are racists.

in india still as soon as a child is born, first question is if the child is fair? if not then they start applying turmeric and what not. they ask their kids not to play outside fearing to get tanned. i don't know what the big deal is? matrimonial columns are funniest. they say fair girls needed for "wheatish" boy.

i think because of our prejudice all those fairness creams make tons of money. there are ads about how the girl is dark and doesn't get a groom and then she applies 'fair & lovely' and bam!!! the guy likes her now. that ad completely ridicules a woman for two reasons, one because she is rejected because of color, second she becomes fair to attract same guy who rejected her. it's like women have no better thing to do than apply all those crap on their face and then wait for some guy to rescue them.

if women raise voice against it then they are called feminists.

Anitha I must add here it's a very good & interesting topic for discussion 👏
Color discrimination does exist. It is human tendency that they are never satisfied. Hence manufacturer of beauty products bank on with this human tendency 😆 . Colored people wish to have white skin & white skinned fancy wheat complexion. If you have noticed you would find white people getting suntanned on the beaches 😉

Now back to the serial, Saloni's family (I think only her Mom n sis) is biased towards her coz of her dark skin. A mother loves all her children equally & unconditionally, unless if it is a case of stepmother or a foster mom. Saloni's mom is ignoring her other talents. Whereas Shubra is good for nothing than busy with her face packs & admiring herself in the mirror 😕 , please give that mirror a break before it shouts, mujhe iss bhootni se bachao 😆

I received this email, "Colored or Not" so thought of sharing with you lots
Colored or Not?
A black man walks into a caf one early morning & noticed that he was the only black man there. As he sat down, he noticed a white man behind him. The white man said, "Colored people are not allowed here."
The black man turned around & stood up. He then said
"When I was born I was black."
"When I grew up, I was black."
"When I am sick I am black."
"When I go in the sun, I am black."
"When I am cold, I am black."
"When I die, I will be black."

But your Sir…
"When you're born you are pink."
"When you grow up you're white."
"When you're sick, you're green."
"When you go in the sun, you turn red."
"When you're cold you turn blue."
And when you die you turn purple."
And you have the nerve to call me colored. The black man then sat down and the white man walked away.

hey anitha good topic!
i think its good that you want to discuss this topic bcoz such things are not talked about and resolved and the discrimination continues.

i personally think that discriminating someone or thinking that they are unattractive bcoz they have a darker complexion than others is silly, skin colour doesnt matter wts important is the persons personality and what they are like on the inside.

for example: a guy that has a choice between a fair girl and a darker girl, lets say he chooses the fairer one without getting to know the other girl bcoz shes more beautiful than the darker 1. n the fair girl turns out to be a horrible person and breaks the guys heart whereas the darker girl on the other hand wud hav kept the guy happy and was a nice person. shudnt he hav luked further than the girls appearances and got to know each girl for the person they each are?

its so wrong to judge like that and all humans are gods creations and all of gods creations are beautiful no matter what they look like and neway every individual has a difference appearance from the next person.

its typical old fashioned thinkin that darker complexions are unattractive cos every1 is attractive and colour shouldnt matter. its the 21st century ppl shud start living in it and leave the old discriminations behind.

luv

I saw a programme honouring women achievers on Sony guess what the sponsor is fair and lovely cream. They interviewed Kiran Bedi among others , now surely she did not become the first woman DGP on INdia and introducing reforms in Tihar by using Fair and lovely cream. A very smart strategy by the MNC to negate the negative aspect of its campaign. This is another way of trying to gain acceptability even among the non-users and feminists.

I was darker than my younger sister. It was not easy growing up. I was constantly reminded how I will not be able to find someone to marry me. I was compared everyday with my sister. My aunt's and grandmother made my life a living hell. I had complexes, was so shy and full of anger. I hated it. I can so very well connect to Saloni. But now it all turned out for good. I got into University of Roorkee with a very good rank. Did my engineering in Computer Science and is very well settled with my husband who loves me dearly and has no problem with my color. The times are changing. People don't care about the color much these days. But I still hate my Nani and Mausi. I will never forgive them.
