Actually Pritam is a very well read and educated composer (Schooling St James Kolkata and College Presidency in Kolkata) both are high profile institutes and he does come from a reasonably strong musical back ground.
The band which gave him a social face is chandrabindoo in Kolkata.

http://www.chandrabindoo.com/

Here he was vocalist and instrumental in production of ar jani na album. This was runaway success in Bengal.

In January 1993, Pritam joined the

Film and Television Institute in Pune to undertake a course in sound recording and sound engineering. During this time, he was offered a chance to compose background music for a film by Hungarian filmmaker Istvan Gaal. He also learned African music from musicologist Kedar Avati.

This explains his ability to solid remix, cut paste etc.

Reason for blatant copying:

Pritam's career as a solo musician stalled as he signed a series of flops like
Fun2shh - Dudes In The 10th Century and Agnipankh.
But with Dhoom which was an instant hit (banking on copied music from miscellaneous sources) he knew the mantra to survive, give hits whatever it takes and he jumped the bandwagon of plagiarism…(inspiration whatever you call this).

Even in the best schools and colleges, there are students who don't fare better. They are last in the class . So just being in the best school/college is no guarantee to be a genius 😆

Anyways that was just on a light note

Well copy paste is also an art and its is kind of Re-Use. And Re-use is highly recommendaded in Knowledge based inductries. 😃
