Completely disagree with you. Way better?? Hema was absolutely stunning in terms of voice quality, feeling and versatility. I like Amanat too but I would never be able to say who is better between the two of them. 😊

Interesting comparisons and pretty accurate.

The only point I disagree on is the comparison of Hema and Amanat. Hema's diction may be weaker, but his throw is incredibly powerful. Also, he would be able to sing Mitwa very easily; his classical base is very strong. I think technically there is very little to choose from between Amanat and Hema, but when it comes to vocal power and energy, Hema really has an edge.

Yes, you are right about Hema's vocal power and energy.

Mitwa isn't wholly sufiana, but as Anand Raj Anand said, towards the end of the song, Amanat took certain notes that only a true sufi singer could. These minor points can change an entire song. Having said that, Hema, with practice, can also accomplish that to an extent.

About his accent, it does make a lot of difference. If having an immature voice can affect the true feeling of a song, having an accent does too. But just as we give time for immature voices to mature, we also need to give Hema time, and I'm sure he'll overcome that effect. He needs to start communicating in Hindi regularly though.

If it was a ghazal or a sufiana song and I had to choose between Hemachandra and Amanat, I would pick Amanat

If it was a classical based song, if it was a pop number, if it was a typical Hindi film song, I would take the effort to work on Hemachandra's diction and pick him over Amanat any day

If my choice was between Md Vakil, Parthiv, Hemachandra and Amanat

If it was a Sufi or Ghazal, I would pick Md Vakil
If it was a classical based song, I would pick Parthiv
for the rest I would pick Hemachandra

This by far is the best topic of the season so I cannot help comment on it.

First of all.....Thanks Shady for always providing food for thought..👏...My comments in chameli color below..😃

Now that the show is nearing an end, I decided to compare the top 9 contestants of Challenge 2007 and 2005, one on one, in the order they finished:

9. Junaid vs Rajeev: Junaid is the more technically trained singer, but Rajeev had a great voice. Both were somewhat inconsistent, Rajeev more so. It ultimately comes down to looks, and so Junaid is the clear winner. Rajeev faltered too many times. His voice was good but he was one nervous wreck and not a stage performer. Junaid was a stage performer and not a nervous guy. Obviously his looks enhanced his stage presence too but Junaid would rate higher than Rajeev in overall singing scale as well (my opinion).

8. Harpreet vs Twinkle: Harpreet is the better singer, Twinkle the better performer. But Twinkle could really ruin some songs - so Harpreet sweeps this one. Agreed... Although I somewhat disagree with the "sweep" word. Some of Twinkle's renditions were mindblowing as well like the one where she sang this very tough song which had lots of proses as well in the antara..😛..But overall, yes Harpreet is a winner.

7. Mauli vs Ujjaini: Both had only one memorable performance each in the show. Ujjaini is obviously the better singer (she won EMET). Mauli is from Houston, and hotter than Ujjaini. But try as I might, I can't overlook her screeching, so Ujjaini takes this one (although she too had a tendency to scream at higher notes). Now I would use the word "SWEEP" here. In my opinion, Ujjaini is umpteenth times better than Mauli. Ujjaini could sing items numbers just as well as Mauli and her rendition of non-item numbers is not even worth comparing with Mauli.😃..Sorry Mauli fans but it is what it is.

6. Mussarat vs Paresh: Both videsi, but that's the only thing common between them. Mussarat was a single genre specialist, while Paresh was a jack-of-all-trades (but master of none). Mussarat wins because he reminded us of the old SRGM - Paresh reminded us of Indian Idol....Paresh..Paresh and Paresh for me...all the way....He always sang with soul even though his riyaaz and awaaj may not be the best.... He moved me with every performance and brought me to tears with his last performance when his wife was in the audience...😛...In the history of SRGMP, he is the only who made me and my flatmate cry with his exit.😭

5. Sumedha vs Nihira: Both have very sweet, playback voices, and neither was crowd favorite. But Nihira is far more technically qualified, while Sumedha needs more hard work to get there. To explain it best - Sumedha is to Nihira as Nihira is to Shreya....Nihira is Nihira is Nihira is Nihira....There is no comparison between Nihira and rest of contestants in C-05 and C-07. She was perfect. Klosest that comes to her is Aneek. Her downfall is her stage presence or lack thereof... I wish she had the flair of Sumedha or 10% that of Mauli.😛

4. Poonam vs Himani: Both are dusky, and specialize in off-beat songs in the Sunidhi/Richa Sharma genre. 6 months back, it would have been hard to imagine any of the C2007 girls surpassing Himani. But Poonam's classical base pushes her above Himani. Plus, I can say for sure that Poonam's future will involve more than hosting TV shows. This is a tough one...real tough one...but Poonam comes winner just marginally....I have a hard time saying this...maybe this one is a tie..😃

Final 3

Amanat vs Hemachandra: Both are extremely technically adept, and quite versatile. They hail from respected musical families, and are very consistent. The jaans of the elite music junta. Of course, they have their limitations. Hema probably couldn't sing Mitwa, and Amanat probably couldn't do Nahi Samne. But because of Amanat's better Hindi/Urdu diction, he would edge it. I can't imagine Hema doing playback for Bollywood - but Amanat, yes. Tough one..again...TIE.

Aneek vs Vinit: Babies of the show. Bundle of talent, immature voices. Both were grabbed by Himesh and turned into something they're not. Both fell in love with Dia, both heard the 3 magic words from Dia, and both allegedly had the hots for a fellow female contestant. Aneek started off right from the top (he had the advantage of winning a show) and has been more consistent. Although he is quite irritating when he declares love for anyone and everyone (Vinit was more subtle in this matter). But Vinit has a huge ego (remember the walkout?) so I'll stick with Aneek here. Aneek is head and shoulders above Vineet. In terms of attitude, in terms of singing (I mean he has been perfect through the entire show). He comes klosest to Nihira.

Raja vs Debojit: The underdogs of the show. The singers with the most fanatic fans. Genuinely good human beings. Both are on the older side, and have experienced extreme hardships in life, and have borne it all with a smile. Also been harshly put-down by opposing mentors. Too much debate has centered on Raja's technical skills, so not going to get into that. But certain individual performances of Raja have touched me more than anyone else in any show. His fabulous Independence day performance (Maa tujhe salam) managed to upstage even Debojit's great Republic day performance (Ae mere pyare watan). So in this particular match-up, Raja is the Raja. He he....asking a lifelong Debo fan to compare with anybody else is a folly.😉😆..so I have nothing to say....I like Raja as well but Debo se kompare kiya to panga mangta hai...kya..😆

So contestant to contestant, C2007 takes the cake. Sure, C2005 had Nihira and Hema, but 2 swallows do not make a summer.

P.S. By matching the final 3, I'm not saying they will finish in that order this year. I simply matched them based on their styles and persona.

Good attempt to compare.. But I dont agree with the fact - Mauli Vs Ujjaini Ujjaini is too good at alaap.. Please dont look at one performance, look at the contestant on the whole.. Ujjaini used to do her alaap's so well.. Yes she had problem with breathe control, but she cannot be compared to Mauli, who cannot sing one full song maintaining the scale.. 😕

Rest to the discussion of comparing C2005 Vs C2007.. Only one point I would like to point out that C2005 contestants were consistent performers.. In C2007 not all performances are memorable but in C2005 all the performances were memorable.. In C2007, you remember one contestant hardly giving 2-3 nice performances, but in C2005 all the contestants were good from the round one.. That is why EMET was brought back so those who got eliminated can get a chance.. In C2007, the initial rounds were totally not to the std of SRGMP, but C2005 maintained it and we have heard some wonderful performances.. Consistency is the key to success.. If one singer cannot be consistent, then he cannot flourish in the industry.. On the whole I would go with C2005..
