Hemachandra and pheeka? 😕 Absolutely not, IMO. Some songs require power and energy to convey the feel.

My personal hiccup with Amanat is the very fact that outside his comfort zone of semi-classical/ghazals/sad songs, he has little energy in his voice. Hema did not have that problem.

Agree with you on this.. Hemu is definitely better than Amanat.. If Hemu had accent problem which he had corrected way before getting eliminated, Amanat still has the diction problem considering even the pronunciation of Urdu words.. Hema's nahin samne is so far the best and still ringing in many's ears even after 2 years.. A performance should be in that level which lacks in the Challenge 2005 singers.. Hema had classic breathe control and Amanat lacks that too.. So, attempting nahin samne would be tough for Amanat as it needs too much of breathe control..

Voice quality of Amanat is better than Hema, Amanat can bring better feel than Hema, Amanat's diction is better than Hema's, Amanat is groomed by ID and Hema by AS, I can easily say Amanat did justice with all kind of song even if I am not his fan but Hema could do justice with few....

But both are good...

This is a sweeping statement about Amanat being better than Hema. I just cannot agree to this and I wish we could have a contest between them to prove my point. The best test would be to ask Amanat to sing any AR Rahman composition and compare with Hema's.

I don't know if this is a prejudice against Hema's South Indian background but for God's sake at least the voice quality is there for all to hear and admire.

Mitwa isn't wholly sufiana, but as Anand Raj Anand said, towards the end of the song, Amanat took certain notes that only a true sufi singer could. These minor points can change an entire song. Having said that, Hema, with practice, can also accomplish that to an extent.

About his accent, it does make a lot of difference. If having an immature voice can affect the true feeling of a song, having an accent does too. But just as we give time for immature voices to mature, we also need to give Hema time, and I'm sure he'll overcome that effect. He needs to start communicating in Hindi regularly though.

OK, respect your opinion since you say Hema can do it! 😃

No, YOU are wrong. Why dont you check out the facts first before you say that again? It is definitely Shafqat Amanat Ali who sang the song. I even saw his interview once during the making of KANK music, and he sang the song for the interview, etc. So, you check it out =)

Both Shafqat Amanat Ali and Shankar Mahadevan are listed in the song.

There seems to be a continuity between the alaap and the rest of the song. Does Shafqat Amanat have a voice very similar to Shankar Mahadevan?

You could say so..Initially,Shankar was pencilled in to sing the song, but apparently Shankar heard Shafqat' vocals on the radio(Shafqat is the lead singer of the band Fuzon),rang up the RJ Tarana and enquired about the singer, took his #### and finalised him for the song,as Shanker felt Shafqat could do more justice to the song 😊....

I dunno whether "alaap" was the right word, pardon me,my Hindi is quite weak...But Shankar only sang very little of the beginning...There's a bit of singing in the right after the first mukhda but before the antara which Shankar has sung,if you know what I mean.....😕
