Today when everyone was deifying Amanat for "Tujhse Naaraz Nahin" and shedding tears, few realised that the applause was more for the poet Gulzar than Amanat himself.

No doubt Amanat sang exceedingly well but the reason why people cry whenever anyone sings this song (when Sameer sang the song in Little Champs, the reaction was the same) is that Gulzar has written absolutely soul-stirring lyrics!

Jeene ke liye socha hi nahin, dard sambhaalne honge
Muskuraaye to muskuraane ki karz utaarne honge

It was Ismail Darbar in his wisdom, who pointed out that the standing ovation was for Gulzar's lyrics which has relevance for every person listening to it.

Thanks Ismailji, you said just what my heart was screaming.

You are 100% right Sahana ji

This is neither the first time nor the only place happening in these singing competitions, in fact many a times it is actually the song which gets the praise rather than the performer, just like Anu malik said in one of the episodes of II3 that "Gaane ko taali mili, gaanewala ko nahin" when everybody were applauding the singer on an ordinary performance.

PS: By the way Amanat was brilliant and kudos to him, he rightly deserves all the accolades.

Sahana, I would say that the applause was for both Gulzar's song and RD's composition. No doubt it is a brilliantly written by Gulzar but what made it soul-stirring is RD's composition. Any other MD may not have done as much justice to the words as RD did with such a compostion. So the credit should go to both Gulzar and RD.

I would like to add here that the context in which the song is played for the movie 'Masoom' is also very touching ...

Ditto!

There are three aspects to the appeal of a song - lyrics, composition and rendition. The first two were provided by masters in their fields and the last one by a young man making his foray into the field. The applause was as much for him as it was for the other two. If it had been just the first two aspects, Mika's rendition would have had people crying too. Kudos to Sameer and Amanat for making a vintage melody memorable for a lot of youngsters!

Looks like Mika's rendition was edited out in Singapore. Good for us!
