I really get annoyed when people here advice others to vote purely based on talent and do not consider any other factors like region, faith, nationality etc.

When the show organizers have left the decision of voting to people, they will vote to only those whom they would like to see winning and that candidate may not be the best. And that decision may be based on number of factors.

When we all voted to Taj in the recent voting to choose the seven wonders, on what basis did we take the decision? Did we actually see/visit any of the other places or Taj for that matter and verified if Taj indeed was better than others places listed? We just voted Taj because we wanted the place in our country to come on top. Did we not show regional bias? If any one had adviced us to vote purely based on merit and not on regional bias, had we taken that advice-- hell not.

If there was a world beauty contest whose winner was to be selected based on worldwide voting and if an Indian lady was in final three, whom would we have voted? We would have voted Indian lady even if she was not the best. At least, I would have done so, no matter what others said. I would not have taken anybody's advice of voting based on purely merit.

Like it or not, there will be all sorts of biases when people vote. When the voting is left to them, they will do what they want to do. There is no point advicing others what to do.

😊 nice articulate post dear! i actually liked it and you made me look at the system in a different light as opposed to mundane remarks / seemingly immature arguments questioning what would happen to Indian contestants in other countries.

The analogy to Miss India pageant / Taj selection to wonders makes me take a back seat with preaching 😆

Salil, The same thoughts have passed my mind several times and I have mentioned it on forum few times too.

Just for argument:

The two instances that you gave were about India. It was about proud of being an Indian and 'united we stand' motto. When it comes to a contest within India then promoting regionism results in disharmony among Indians. Therefore, we expect that people vote keeping all prejudices aside and vote only for talent.

Concurring with your thoughts:

I know there is no reality in SMS voting. People will vote for their favorites based on looks, region etc. I don't find any difference when someone asks votes for Mauli because she is charming or for Poonam because of sympathy or X because he is from so and so state/country. One might argue about voting based on talent but at the end of the day and it is all about favoring one's choice. Talent becomes subjective.

If the programe gives us the option to choose whoever then I am entitled to choose the singer I find more talented according to myself so no more orders and comparisons please.

that depends on people tho.. cuz i am from pakistan and i vote for junaid and amanat throughout but that is not becuase they are from pakistan, just cuz they are good singers.. but my aunt votes for JAM cuz they are from pakistan.. everyoone is entitled to their own opinion...

since its our choice we SHOULD choose talent but self pride sometimes lies in your mother-country..

OK, let us say that one of your distant relatives was in the final three. All your relatives, relatives's relatives, their friends, say 500 in numbers decided to vote for your distant relative but you feel that the other candidate is better. Would you go and argue with 500 folks and advice them that they should not promote their relative as it causes disharmony among Indians? Do you think they would take your advice? What is true for a family is true for the region too. Nobody is causing any disharmony here. They are just supporting their favorite.

Very well put Salilji. Public voting should be banned and should have gone when Gajji left.

This is only a wishful thinking Minali as we all know that it is not going to happen. Why would Zee give up the SMS revenue opportunity -- whether Gajji is there or not?

Knowing that this is how things are going to be, lets just enjoy the show. Most of us agree that the 3 mega-finalist are the best amongst the lot and we should be happy with anyone taking up the crown.
