Why can't they sing original songs

If they are really talented, they should be allowed to sing their own but the filmi/or other singer songs. By singing filmi /other singer songs, they are always compared with the original song and therefore risk being eliminated. For example, I never heard of the song sung by Sumedha. Therefore, it showed her singing talent because I could not compare to the original. On the other hand, I love the song sung by Raja and he did not do very well. I invite everyone to listen to the original and then Raja's version and find out yourself.

Cheers!

Then what can we judge them by?
If their own song is MEANT to be off Sur, then what's the point?

Sumedha's song was picturized on Madhubalaji its one of the most popular cabberai songs of its time. I'm surprised you have not heard Aiyee Mehrbaan. She did not sing as well today she tried to maintain the tone of the song but voice modulation was not as it should have been in the mukra. Amanat sang a very popular song but he still sang well.

There are 800-1000 movies, with an average of 5 to 6 songs, in India. I do not claim to have heard all songs since 1910s when they began making movies.

It's alright if you have not heard it but most people have. If you want I can pm you the original song so you can compare it to Sumedha's 😊.

This is the first time they are having a B/W theme.. Then how come u get bored of it?? Yesterdays was the best episode, got to hear nice songs from the contestants.. The songs from golden era are very difficult to sing and if they can sing it with perfection, then they can sing modern songs very easily.. Why not see it in that perspective??
